Healing The Cracks Or Papering Over Them: June’s Capricorn full Moon 2024

As a vessel is known by the sound, whether it be cracked or not, so men are proved, by their speeches, whether they be wise or foolish. Demosthenes
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within. Elizabeth Kübler-Ross
There is nothing fiercer than a failed artist. The energy remains, but, having no outlet, it implodes in a great black fart of rage which smokes up all the inner windows of the soul. Erica Jong
Beautiful light is born of darkness, so the faith that springs from conflict is often the strongest and the best. R. Turnbull
There is a crack, a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in. Leonard Cohen
This full Moon is a real doozy. I hesitated writing this newsletter as the energies seem to be rather difficult, perhaps disappointing, or emotionally challenging. I was not wanting to write a newsletter with such extraordinary ‘news’ of the planetary energies. I’m sure that we would rather not have that swirling around, however, I think it’s good (as always) to see what these energies are and to reach for a higher expression of it all. Besides which, my take is that the Sabian Symbols have an ‘alchemical’ potential: We can change the energies so they work for us by identifying where and how they are manifesting and choosing the higher road with them (again, as always).
This full Moon in Capricorn is on a rather evocative degree – Capricorn 2: THREE STAINED-GLASS WINDOWS IN A GOTHIC CHURCH, ONE DAMAGED BY WAR. This Symbol can speak to the need to find faith in amongst a lot of uncertainty, perhaps the sense that war/upheaval/things broken are around or on the horizon. It seems pretty clear that our sensibilities are being pushed right now. Certainly, the times seem uncertain. What we can be certain of, though, is our connection to faith; Faith that all will be well, faith that we are in a good place in our lives (even amongst difficulty) and faith that the energies will lighten up once again.
It’s interesting to note that this Stained Glass Windows Symbol was the degree of Mars on 9/11. Right next door to the Twin Towers was St. Paul’s Church (well, the church is still there but the Twin Towers are not). Not a single stained-glass window was broken or blown out in the tiny church, built in 1766, right next door on 9/11. I saw this myself and marvelled at it as I stood in the grounds in New York the following year.
Also, I find it always interesting to notice these first few degrees of Capricorn activated, as every year, right on Christmas. Capricorn one, two and three are highlighted as the Sun traverses these degrees on December 24, 25 and 26. See my interpretation for these Symbols below. Capricorn 3: THE HUMAN SOUL, IN ITS EAGERNESS FOR NEW EXPERIENCES, SEEKS EMBODIMENT is quite something as it is often exactly this degree of the Sun on Christmas Day (the ’embodiment’ of the Christ consciousness).
Of course, we are talking about the transiting full Moon here – the full Moon is highlighting this need to stand up (Cap 1), heal our pain or wounds and renew our faith (Cap 2), and, to be able to express ourselves in a true sense of ’embodiment’ = realisation (Cap 3). More on these in the text below.
Further, what popped out for me with this full Moon was a very tight grand cross with the Sun, Moon, Neptune and Lilith (the Black Moon). In this chart to the left you can see the boxed in shape. This feels both at once dynamic and locked in – it can be somewhat soul destroying while at the same time very soul enriching.
It seems that this full Moon is asking us to connect more with our ancestral, shamanistic, humanistic, empathetic, etc, side. Certainly more to our feminine side. I sense a strong feeling of being challenged, betrayed, let down or propagandised by all that’s going on. Certainly this can be a time of ‘what the heck next’ – clearly, this can manifest on a world wide scale as well as in our personal lives, either within us or around us.
The following is my interpretation of this degree from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom:
The Sabian Symbol for the full Moon is Capricorn 2: THREE STAINED-GLASS WINDOWS IN A GOTHIC CHURCH, ONE DAMAGED BY WAR
Commentary: ‘Three Stained-Glass Windows in a Gothic Church, One Damaged by War’ pictures the need to stay strong on every level under the barrage of some type of bombardment. A ‘Church’ is normally a place of safety and refuge, but ‘War’ has broken through its divine barrier and caused ‘Damage’, or some injury, that is much bigger than just a broken ‘Window’. One of the three corners of unity, in this case the one of love, is ‘Damaged’ and compromised by the aggressive warring nature of mankind.
Oracle: With the shattering of the ‘Window’, there is often a loss of faith, hope and trust. Someone may have previously felt safe in the confines of their life and suddenly a “bomb hits”, breaking and demolishing some aspect of their usually safe and secure life. This situation may take considerable time to heal, although if the structure is sound, fixing the ‘Window’ (the place where the light gets in) can be done relatively quickly. Still, even with the best of thoughts, emotions and intentions, it might take months or years to truly heal the devastating effect that’s been unleashed. In fact, the actual ‘Damage’ that this Symbol implies may have started long ago. There is a need to get it repaired and things often need healing on the emotional and physical levels. Hypnotherapy, psychoanalysis and past life regression may reveal pain, injury and trauma that are holding one back from being able to accept or give love. Acceptance of love can lead to healing on many levels. Love is often the main issue that needs to be projected outwards as well as accepted inwards.
Keywords: Seeking sanctuary. Careless aggression where love should be. Religious or philosophical differences that spark off problems. Fears of being “under attack” whilst in the spotlight. Sorrow and despair over losses. Loss of faith. ‘Windows’ that are cracked, broken or smashed. Cracks and shattering. Rescue of endangered holy places. Loss of love through harsh circumstance. The need for repair.
The Caution: Feeling disconnected from the reality of what’s going on. Fearfulness OR fearlessness, when one should be careful. Signs of rubble all around. Aggression between people. Burning down churches. A lack of safe places. Being shell-shocked and ravaged. Cold breezes entering sacred spaces. Psychological and emotional scars. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
Certainly, the idea of ‘bombs’ is inherent in Capricorn 2. Check out the Symbol for the Moon’s north node at the end of this newsletter. Talk about the need to ‘diffuse’ situations.
The following interpretations are from my text included in Solar Fire software.
The Karmic Condition of this full Moon is Capricorn 1: AN INDIAN CHIEF CLAIMS RECOGNITION AND POWER FROM THE ASSEMBLED TRIBE
This Symbol shows the necessity or the ability to be strong, stand tall, be in charge and command respect. There are leadership issues that need to be embraced or addressed. Sometimes we need to rise to the occasion and take charge and this may lead to a struggle for control; you may have to remind those around you that you can be trusted to make decisions or lead others. At times in your life, those above you may remind you of your lesser position in the scheme of things. This can happen if others are jealous of your achievements and power. Always know when to give way to the rights of others. Assuming authority. Finding a sense of place. Charisma. Respect. Standing up in the crowd. Staking one’s claim. Being voted in. Popularity contests. Benevolence.
The Caution: Power struggles. Over-inflated views of one’s self. A sense of entitlement. Egotistical responses. Taking over. Too many chiefs. Lording it over others.
The Quest Symbol of this full Moon is Capricorn 3: THE HUMAN SOUL, IN ITS EAGERNESS FOR NEW EXPERIENCES, SEEKS EMBODIMENT
This Symbol shows the need, or the ability, to be open and receptive to the messages of the world around you, following which there is an expansion into a new understanding and a new way of life. Writing is an excellent way for the “Soul” to “Seek Embodiment”. Also there can be issues to do with one’s body. There can be many times of quiet; of inner contemplation and outer observance. Regardless of your more immediate, physical circumstances, there is an evolution of understanding going on with this degree. Unbounded enthusiasm is likely to be around. It may be useful to keep a diary or to write things down. Extraordinary events can happen with this degree. Inner motivation leading to expansion. Being “born again”. Manifesting one’s desires. Writing. Expressing your self. Reincarnation. The story of Christ. Immaculate conceptions.
The Caution: Denying growth in favor of social responsibility. Obsessions with ideals or ideas. Feeling one ‘needs permission’ to step into new ways of being. Cast adrift.
Almost exactly squaring this full Moon is Neptune on the very very last minutes of Pisces at 29.54 (meaning, it could barely be any closer to going into Aries, it goes stationary and then retrogrades on that very last degree on July 2nd. The last time Neptune was at this exact degree and minute, the Civil War was declared in the U.S. (I keep hearing references to civil wars, and, not only in the U.S.). Neptune entered Aries and – immediately – civil war broke out. Neptune does not enter Aries until 1st April 2025. Feels rather like the Sabian Symbol for the Moon’s north node – Aries 13: A BOMB WHICH FAILED TO EXPLODE IS NOW SAFELY HIDDEN FROM DISCOVERY
The Sabian Symbol for Neptune is Pisces 30: A MAJESTIC ROCK FORMATION RESEMBLING A FACE IS IDEALIZED BY A BOY WHO TAKES IT AS HIS IDEAL OF GREATNESS, AND AS HE GROWS UP, BEGINS TO LOOK LIKE IT
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to envision or decide what you want to be and as you grow and develop, becoming that vision. The “Boy” of this Symbol lived in childhood under a hill figure of a president and when he grew up he became a president himself. At times in your life, you may find that you are growing into the image that you have imagined and it gives you a sense of pride – assuming you have chosen a positive image. What or who do you “Idealize”? What is it that you’d like to become? What image would you like to project? Meditating on a goal or the projection of an ideal can lead to actuality. Just be clear about what you really desire in the situation – you just might get it. Manifestation of ideals. Enduring truths. Culmination of efforts. Image consultants. Projections. Desiring a sense of immortality. Defining one’s fate. Conscious manifestation.
The Caution: Not being at all clear about who one is or can be. Being or becoming a screen for the projection of others’ ideals. Falling short of the mark. Shooting too far and achieving nothing.
And, forming a tight grand-cross with this full Moon is the Black Moon Lilith at Virgo 29 – directly opposite Neptune.
The Sabian Symbol for the Black Moon Lilith is Virgo 30: HAVING AN URGENT TASK TO COMPLETE, A PERSON DOESN’T LOOK TO ANY DISTRACTIONS
There is a need for single-mindedness in application here. ‘Distractions’ can lead one astray and waste valuable time. As can getting lost in the details. Pushing through with the work, avoiding temptations regardless of what’s going on around you will bring the rewards of completion. Stay true to yourself and stay on the path. One-pointedness in application. The need for focus. Seeing something through to the finish.
The Caution: Paying too much attention to outside influences. Letting the slightest excuse take you away from what needs to be done – although rigidity of thought or action can lead one to miss creative or intuitive opportunities.
The Sabian Symbol for Saturn presently stationary retrograde and the ruler of this full Moon – Pisces 20: A TABLE SET FOR AN EVENING MEAL. We are seeing attacks on our food sources, also, some are choosing to forego heating and airconditioning in order to be able to afford food. Of course, those of us that are not struggling realise that some people definitely are at the moment. There’s also the question of who you would serve, along with ‘who would be invited to sit at your table’.
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to provide sustenance for yourself and others, to “Set” the “Table” and have nourishment available for those who need it. It can show the knowledge of nutrition, cooking, catering all the way to knowing how to make money – how to ‘bring home the bacon’. At times in your life, you’ll prepare things for others to appreciate, to assimilate, to be nourished by and to enjoy. When everything is in place, you’ll want to have people around you to appreciate it. Patience is sometimes needed; having worked hard and long, you need to realize that your needs will be met. Returning home you can find comfort and sustenance. Attend to everyday tasks with reverence. Try to remember to say grace in thanks. Being nourished. Provision of life’s necessities. Issues of “who will serve and who will eat”. Dinner. Dinner parties. Baking and breaking bread. Nourishment. Table manners.
The Caution: Making preparations with no ability to complete or satisfy. Devouring things or people. Fast food. Eating standing up or on the run. Always having to do.
The Sabian Symbol of Mercury is Cancer 10: A LARGE DIAMOND IN THE FIRST STAGES OF THE CUTTING PROCESS. There are desires, projects, experiences, etc, that want to be made manifest.
This Symbol implies the beginning stages of things that are growing to become something wonderful, useful and worthwhile. Things are always growing and perfecting and it seems that your position is just beginning to take shape and the potential is enormous, but there needs to be care and accuracy taken or all the work to date could be lost or spoilt. This situation has taken a long time to develop and comes from a deep organic essence. Keep cutting away the unnecessary and the flawed and you’ll emerge with a wonderful gem as this Symbol implies riches and talent and beauty.
Coming to terms with inner worth. Emerging perfection. Beauty that is a bit ‘rough around the edges’. Chopping or grinding away to get to the essential truth, potential or reality.
The Caution: Leaving important jobs unfinished. Being afraid to take the first stab at a project or issue. Only seeing the flaws. Someone lacking social polish. Overprotective.
The Sabian Symbol for Venus is Cancer 6: IN SPRING GAME BIRDS ARE FEATHERING THEIR NESTS. With the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Cancer at the moment, there is very likely a feeling of needing to feel safe, secure and settled.
This Symbol speaks of the urge, or the necessity, of building or decorating a ‘Nest’ somewhere that is safe and comfortable. Although there is a good feeling about the future and the hope of new life coming, there could be an inherent danger that you could not have somewhere to be or to nest or that you could actually be somewhat expendable. Be careful not to become either too complacent or to react in fright at any sudden surprises. You could jeopardize your situation as others may judge whether you are qualified to stay where you are or are able to maintain your situation well enough. Concerns with safety, security and a comfortable life can lead to having to move on a periodic basis. Instinctive dedication for laying the groundwork for those to come. Creating a base. Interior decorating. Finding a home. Renting. Making yourself safe and comfortable.
The Caution: Being afraid to venture out on ‘one’s own’. Being unnecessarily afraid. Moving in and taking over other people’s space or territory. Squatters taking over.
The Sabian Symbol of Mars is Taurus 10: A RED CROSS NURSE WITH WARM SYMPATHY. As this is the placement of Mars, we might be wondering where caring and sharing and empathy has gone. Of course, we might find that others don’t appreciate our kindness, our reaching out and wanting to help.
This Symbol shows caring, sympathy and nursing others so they may find health and comfort. You probably have a lot of work of your own, but you have to give your time to those needing help first. A great deal of inner healing can be achieved when helping, however, this can be difficult when you have to do too much. You may have to cross over into the ‘dark side’ in order to bring light to situations. Adopt a hands-on attitude to looking after others and ensuring they get their needs met.
Compassionate understanding and caring. Breaking down borders between one self and others. Finding reserves of energy to keep going. Giving and also receiving. Healing.
The Caution: ‘Fussing’ and doing more than one needs to. Being a doormat and doing more than your share. Being officious and bossy. Feeling used. Unable to rest.
The Sabian Symbol of Jupiter is Gemini 7: AN OLD-FASHIONED WELL
This Symbol implies going into the depths of people, places and things in order to find nourishment or satisfaction. There is always a plentiful supply for all those who draw on the well with sincerity. You are able to access this through your faith and emotive confidence in yourself. You don’t need to employ your thoughts as much as your beliefs in this situation. The inner wisdom you seek has been tapped by others long ago. Tapping into the ‘Well’ may require a long rope and patience but it is worth the effort. Compassion and love allow one to plumb the depths of people and situations with certainty. Being supported by people and your environment. Clarity of thought and perception. Deep and sustaining links to the past. The pool of universal experience. Water.
The Caution: Not trusting advice based on established ideas. Not seeing the depths of others. Shallow emotions and responses. Muddying of issues. Stagnant water. Poisons.
The Sabian Symbol of Uranus is Taurus 26: A SPANIARD SERENADING HIS SENORITA
This Symbol speaks of being able to use one’s voice, words, songs, poetry and culture to sway the minds and hearts of others. One can sway others to achieve a desire result. There is no guarantee of total success, but you must act if you want any chance of succeeding and you need to put your heart and soul into the performance. The worst that could be damaged is a little ego, so think positively and play your role with enthusiasm and passion. Music can lift the spirits and words of poetry and love can be healing. Shared feelings, love or passion may result. Being in tune with another. Soul mates or passing fancies? Having your voice heard. Knowing how to deliver a message in order to influence others to make decisions.
The Caution: Not believing messages being given. Insincere charades. Feelings of not being listened to. Spinning tales to get a response. Making things up to get a response.
The Sabian Symbol of Pluto is Aquarius 2: AN UNEXPECTED THUNDERSTORM.
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to withstand “Storms” and things that whip up unexpectedly. It can show a personality that gets sudden flashes of inspiration, intuition or clairvoyance – those aha! moments. It can also show thoughts and emotions that erupt from out of nowhere. They can be brilliant or unstable (or both). You will likely find many times that you are suddenly tested or taken by surprise. Inner strength and stability are put to the test but you learn a lot from your experiences. The effect can be quite liberating, although there can be an initial shock. Thunderstorms clear the air after an extreme buildup of energy. There often is a sense of awe and wonder at the power of natural events. Sudden visitations of natural wonder. Breakthrough moments. A break in tension in the atmosphere. Thunder, lightning and electricity. The Tower card. Being a lightning rod.
The Caution: Losing control without warning. Emotional instability. Bottling up and then blowing up. Storms in a tea cup. Seizing up with fear. Loud bangs and crashes that stun.
It’s very worth mentioning that Pluto recently spent several weeks from the middle of April until almost the end of May on Aquarius 3. We are seeing talk of conscription and the reach for people to sign up for the military, not only in the U.S., but I’m also hearing it from other countries. So many are concerned about not only this, but the idea of war breaking out at any minute.
The Sabian Symbol of Pluto stationary retrograde recently (a very powerful release of energies) is Aquarius 3: A DESERTER FROM THE NAVY STANDS SUDDENLY AWARE OF A DAWNING TRUTH: FREEDOM IS NEVER THE RESULT OF COMPROMISE
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to listen to one’s conscience, to know when to do one’s duty, step up to the mark, or, when it’s time to leave, say enough is enough and ‘I’m not doing this anymore.’ You will find, at times in your life, that rigorous restraints and rules are no longer bearable. A decision to opt out may be a moral one or to maintain a free spirit. One shouldn’t have to “Compromise” themselves in order to be safe, secure, employed, or have a purpose in life. However, there are consequences for “Deserting” – not playing the game. Are you prepared for them? It can also show being taken away from home and family for reasons not of one’s choosing. Rebellion. Leaving although allegiance was pledged. Jumping ship. Wrestling with one’s conscience. Going AWOL. Packing up and leaving. Sudden realizations. Opting out.
The Caution: Not being prepared to play by the rules. Withdrawing when one should be involved in a physical, mental or emotional way. Refusal. Rats deserting the sinking ship.
Perhaps bring relief, perhaps not. It’s hard to know – the Sabian Symbol of the Moon’s north node is quite a compelling image.
The Sabian Symbol for the Moon’s north node is Aries 13: A BOMB WHICH FAILED TO EXPLODE IS NOW SAFELY HIDDEN FROM DISCOVERY
This Symbol shows that often in one’s life explosive elements need discharging. Pressure cooker energy needs to be released, but it often needs to be done slowly and carefully. By keeping a sense of control, one can handle wild situations, elements or people without things getting out of hand. Be an example to others of how calmness and quiet can take the charge out of things. Take whatever opportunities you can to defuse elements as an explosion often damages more than is expected. Tantrums and frustrations. Rash emotional actions and decisions. Intelligence organizations. Valuable lessons of self restraint. Simmering tempers. Defusing situations.
The Caution: Suppressing stress or illness that others may think inappropriate and thinking that your secret is safe. Repressing ones emotions. Undefined anger.
Chiron The Wounded Healer and The Stories We Tell Ourselves may be offering some help, so feeling of letting good luck and abundance in. Open your windows and doors, physically or metaphorically – open up and let the winds of needed change come in. As always, being greatful for the things that we do have makes room for more good things to come in.
The Sabian Symbol of Chiron is Aries 24: AN OPEN WINDOW AND A NET CURTAIN BLOWING INTO THE SHAPE OF A CORNUCOPIA
This Symbol shows that your mind is, or should be, open to possibilities that are being ‘blown’ in from the realm of spirit. There is an abundance coming, shown by the cornucopia, that will be self-sustaining. This degree suggests that with the slightest change in direction your fortunes could change as well. Look for out-of-the-ordinary opportunities and possibilities. Realizing that in one’s everyday life, one has it all.
Imagination. Keeping your options open. The promise of fruition. The breath of life filling you with inspiration. Open windows and doors. Fertility. Gain. Abundance.
The Caution: Relying on spiritual ideas to provide material sustenance. Thinking that good luck will just ‘blow in’. Shutting windows and doors – keeping light and life out.
