Two Men Playing Chess While Cupid Knocks At One’s Heart
The Sun is on Sagittarius 3: TWO MEN PLAYING CHESS
This Symbol often speaks of arguments, strategies – perhaps there’s some wondering how to manage something that may need deft maneuvering to get the best out of. This Symbol shows people ‘playing chess’. Chess is a game with objectives. Not everyone involved in this game wants to actually be in the game. Some will want to retreat, call a truce, go into hiding, perhaps. In fact, both parties may need to back off and look again at what they are meant to be sharing. With the Chess Game, we may find that relationship values have deteriorated to the point of game playing and strategies.
This Symbol shows the ability, or the necessity, to indulge in strategic games, arguments or competitions. There can be a strong sense of knowing how to maneuver situations in order to come out on top, with an eye to possible outcomes. There’s a need to be thoughtful and cautious, taking into account the wider picture. Impulsive acts with no forward planning can be risky. It probably pays to not show your weak side, but do everything with the possible objective of winning. It can be difficult to relax in competitive environments; one often feels that they can’t let their guard down because they might be taken advantage of. Take one step at a time and move with purpose and forethought.
Strategic competition. Seeing the picture several moves ahead. Trying to knock out the opponent. Arguments. Court battles. War strategies. Matching wits. Lawyers. Divorce.
The Caution: Depending on pure luck. Underestimating the opponent’s skill or strategy. Bickering and trying to get the better. Wanting to slay the opponent. Not knowing when to stop.
Interestingly, and at the same time, Mercury and Saturn are both on Sagittarius 7: CUPID KNOCKING AT THE DOOR OF A HUMAN HEART –
Although this is a beautiful degree of opening one’s heart, of sharing and caring and love, this IS a conjunction of Mercury and Saturn. This can bring up stern feelings towards others (or, to oneself). It could be that others have not lived up to expectations, perhaps they have left the arena, maybe they have not ever really had their hearts open. It could be that this was an ill-fated liaison from the very beginning.
The trick with this degree, no matter what planet or point happens to be on it, is to concentrate on opening your heart. You can imagine Cupid shooting his arrow straight at your heart and opening up those blockages. I sometimes advise people to put Cupid screensavers on their computers, or, put messages of love to themselves on their mirrors, or whatever, to remind them of Cupid’s presence.
With Mercury and Saturn on this degree, we could do well to observe where we might be cutting off our emotions, blocking our heart energy, stopping love from being a two-way street.
This degree shows the spreading of love and showing how people can love one another. “Cupid” is “Knocking”, asking to be let in. Barriers and defenses around people’s hearts may be keeping him from getting in, but how long will they be able to resist? Opening your heart and opening the door will lead to new opportunities and realizations about relationships. What are the true depths of your relationships? Soften your boundaries, unlock your heart and allow your heart chakra to open when you are in caring company. Know when to open “The Door’ to allow love in.
Keys and arrows. Respectful invitation of love. Fear of commitment. Purity of motive. Softening one’s boundaries. The need to lighten up one’s approach to others. Romance.
The Caution: Waiting, not taking the initiative. Rejecting emotion. Fearing losing independence. Barriers and defenses. Seeing potential lovers in everyone. Crashing other people’s space.
I have a little story that goes with this degree (I have stories for almost all of the 360 degrees now)…
Some years ago, I had Sagittarius 7 coming into my mind several times and I took note – I thought about opening up my heart to others more and more. I had the Cupid degree at the back of my mind as I went to retrieve a box that had my cordless phone in it – it had been packed up some time before as I was moving house. I got the box out and saw that there were some loose Sabian Oracle cards in the box. I tugged on the wire of the cordless phone and as I did so, two cards, a red one and a blue one, flew up in the air and turned over and landed back in the box… Sagittarius 7. Cupid Knocking At The Door Of A Human Heart.
I love how this stuff works – it is SO mysterious.
