Nosediving or Taking the Controls: May’s New Moon in Gemini

Later, I realized that the mission had to end in a letdown because the real barrier wasn’t in the sky but in our knowledge and experience of supersonic flight. Chuck Yeager

May’s Gemini new Moon occurs on the 30th May and it’s a mixed bag of ‘push-me pull-you’ energies that can have us wondering if we’re coming or going. The Moon’s nodes are still square Saturn (although that is now waning) and, we’re seeing the results of past actions that may have brought about some major life decisions – at the very least we may have found people or situations leaving our lives and there can be a sense of no turning back to previous life conditions. This can be on a large or a small scale: It can be that we’re learning some valuable lessons about boundaries and limitations while also sensing that something way better is available if we just reach out to touch it. This may require work on your part but a shift may suddenly occur because of mind-altering decisions made now. Largely because of Saturn, but also with Pluto’s involvement, this period could feel rather (or very) karmic in some way.
Mercury turns stationary direct on June 3, and, this could bring in a sense of relief as some things begin to fall into place, especially if you’ve been working at getting your situation more under control – your ducks in a row. Mercury turns direct on Taurus 27: AN OLD INDIAN WOMAN SELLING BEADS AND TRINKETS (knowing and realising) your worth, and, it’s quite closely squaring Saturn from that degree with Saturn stationary retrograde on Aquarius 26: A GARAGE MAN TESTING A CAR’S BATTERY WITH A HYDROMETER – where are tweaks and adjustments needing to be made? Where can you better sense what’s really going on beneath the surface? Is something able to be fixed or is it better to just send it to the junk yard or trade it in for a better model? Watching our thoughts, as always, especially those around what we can do or contribute to the world and how we might be sabotaguing ourselves can lead to some enlightening breakthroughs. Boundaries can be very important now however we might need to take a look to see how keeping those boundaries up when they’re not needed can be keeping more desirable situations out.
Stationary retrograde Pluto is in a nice trine aspect with Mercury as Mercury stations and goes direct. This can be the catalyst for the realisations that we can receive now that can lead to big changes in our internal as well as our external lives. There can be some big ‘aha’ moments, bringing breakthroughs on many levels, especially if we’re listening to our inner voice, our intuition and the signs that are coming through now. Pluto is stationary retrograde on Capricorn 29: A WOMAN READING TEA LEAVES, this can have us cutting through extraneous distractions all the way up to nosediving situations that we would perhaps do well to pull out of – especially if our minds are reading too much (or not enough) into situations.
Mars and Jupiter closely conjunct in early Aries can see new projects being born. We may also have some big, perhaps grand, ideas of how to make our lives better with new impulses and desires for self realisation, and these may come out of quiet times of contemplation and facing the reality of situations, places or relationships. We may find ourselves ‘butting heads’ with those who have different ideas or ideologies, and, there could be a need to really put your own needs ahead of others (perhaps for a change).
One of the major messages of this new Moon is the fact that we may need to ‘elevate’ ourselves in some way – to rise above situations so we can get a better perspective, more of a birds’ eye view of not only what’s going on now but what might be coming towards us in the future. The Sabian Symbol of this new Moon is Gemini 10: AN AIRPLANE DIVES TOWARD THE EARTH AS THOUGH FALLING. This can see things getting out of control if we’re not navigating through things with a positive or determined attitude that works for us. Negative thinking can have us plummeting and we might need to grab hold of ‘the controls’ again in order to pull out of crashing and burning. The power of the mind, as always, features very strongly here and we could find ourselves wanting to ‘defy gravity’ in some way, especially with Mars now, and Jupiter in the coming days, on Aries 5; A TRIANGLE IS SEEN: IT HAS GOLDEN WINGS. Certainly, rising above situations can bring many realisations and breakthroughs. Rising above issues is made even stronger by the fact that April’s full Moon in Libra was on Libra 27: AN AIRPLANE SAILS, HIGH IN THE BRIGHT CLEAR SKY.
There’s more to say – there always is.

The Sabian Symbol for the new Moon is Gemini 10: AN AIRPLANE DIVES TOWARD THE EARTH AS THOUGH FALLING – the following is my full interpretation from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom
Commentary: ‘An Airplane Dives Toward the Earth as Though Falling’ pictures risks, daring and going against the odds. The nose ‘Dive’ may look exciting, but things could really be heading for disaster. Onlookers may be unsure of what’s really going on. Is the pilot of this ‘Airplane’ just playing around by defying gravity or is he really in a life-threatening situation? If the one in control, the pilot, makes the slightest error of judgment, there could be a terrible outcome, with the ‘Airplane’ crashing and burning. At the right moment someone, whether it is the pilot, or someone else who can take command, needs to pull out of the ‘Dive’ and save the day. Everything will be fine, possibly exciting and even exhilarating, as long as everything is truly under control.
Oracle: Are things really going the way they should? Risk taking may pay off in a big way and may well be worth it, however, it may end up in a self-defeating crash-and-burn situation. Are you, or is someone else, actively working against their own best interests? Those around you may begin to panic; it may be necessary to reassure them that everything is going to be OK. Let go of things that aren’t really necessary–you can’t deal with too many things right now. It is important to try and keep distractions to a minimum, concentrating on this situation only, and rely solely on those you can trust. A sense of equilibrium needs to be reached or regained. Grabbing hold of the situation and facing it with composure and confidence can straighten things up. Imagine yourself pulling out of a “nosedive” or repeat an affirmation of rising up and pulling through. This is certainly a time when courage is needed, but keep an eye on what’s developing, as everyone may need to bail out to safety. Having a safety device, such as a parachute or a safe landing-pad, may be necessary. The last thing you want to do is to crash and burn.
Keywords: Plunging into situations without considering the ramifications. Becoming conscious of what’s happening. Being protected (and saved) at the last moment. Defying gravity. Facing consequences. Dangerous displays. Hitting the ground running. The art of smooth sailing. Daredevil stunts.
The Caution: Refusing to help yourself even when disaster is imminent. Free falls and defying the consequences. Shakeups. Things getting completely out of control. Overshooting the mark by aiming too high. Turbulence. Reckless behavior. Neglect of physical realities. Freaking out at crucial moments.
The Karmic Condition (the previous degree) of this new Moon is Gemini 9: A MEDIEVAL ARCHER STANDS WITH THE EASE OF ONE WHOLLY SURE OF HIMSELF, BOW IN HAND, HIS QUIVER FILLED WITH ARROWS
This Symbol implies the ability of being able to take aim at something and achieving a bull’s eye, straight at the target. You need to be sure of what you want, to make sure your aim is true, arm yourself and then going after what you want. Your situation is one that requires skill, focus and knowledge of local conditions. There is no need to just rush forward hoping for the best, as this will only leave you feeling inadequate when you do find something. Compose yourself for a moment and realize that you have the ammunition and the sure marksmanship before taking aim and committing yourself.
Keywords: Being armed and ready. Having the aim and ammunition. Accuracy and strength. Getting to the point. The power of tension. Sending a message true and clear. Skills that create confidence and assurance. Focus. Bulls-eyes. Bows and arrows. Warriors. The determination to prevail.
The Caution: Going into battle unprepared. Overconfidence in one’s mission. Being trigger-happy. Someone “cocksure” of themselves. Threatening postures of attack or defense. Always being on the alert for any opportunity to fight. The thug.
The Quest Degree (the degree following) of this new Moon is Gemini 11: NEWLY OPENED LANDS OFFER THE PIONEER NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXPERIENCE
This Symbol shows that there’s a need to break away from old familiar ground and move out into unknown territory. Fear is the greatest barrier to moving forward, but the familiar must be left behind for new possibilities. Taking opportunities to move on to new realms of being can lead to a whole new experience or indeed a whole new life. You have to be prepared to leave the old behind and to step out into new experiences with an open heart and an open mind. You could be starting from scratch with little to support you, but you could find depths of experience you never thought possible.
Keywords: Pioneering attitudes bringing rewards. Going off the beaten track. Coming up with new ideas. New spiritual realizations opening up vistas of hope and experiences. Opportunities to move on to new realms. Adjusting to new places. The Promised Lands. Being prepared to take risks. Moving out. New time zones. Foreign customs and languages.
The Caution: Clinging to the old and familiar when it is outworn and boring. Restricting growth and change. Not moving on. Invading other people’s space. Claiming what’s rightfully someone else’s. Hanging on when it’s time to let go. Running off to avoid involvement or responsibilities.
The degree of stationary direct Mercury – the ruler of this Gemini new Moon – is Taurus 27: AN OLD INDIAN WOMAN SELLING BEADS AND TRINKETS
This Symbol indicates having talents and skills and crafts that reflect one’s culture or abilities. Don’t underestimate yourself and do only what you think others believe you are capable of. These very limitations are telling you of hidden talents and skills that you probably just take for granted. There is something very worthwhile on offer here, don’t wait for passersby to stop and pay attention. Others may think you’re more talented and special than you realize. Get out and show your talents and abilities.
Keywords: Older, wiser elements of society making offerings to the younger, less integrated. Small, but worthy products. Adapting to changing conditions, particularly monetary or financial. Working hard for small returns and rewards. Battling against the odds. Selling the products of one’s culture. Artifacts. Jewelry. Handicrafts. Retailing. Supplying the populace with beautiful things. Markets and stalls. Patience. Bartering and bargaining.
The Caution: Looking down on those that seem less fortunate. Loss of culture and traditional duties. Menial jobs. Devaluing things or overvaluing junk. Feeling that you have nothing to offer. Waiting for others to validate your worth. Bickering over money. Feeling ‘cursed’ with one’s lot in life. Lack of the respect for the arts. Being stuck in the marketplace. Sweat shops.
The Quest Degree of Mercury is Taurus 28: A WOMAN IN MIDDLE LIFE STANDS IN RAPT SUDDEN REALIZATION OF FORGOTTEN CHARMS, IN UNEXPECTED RECOVERY OF ROMANCE – please note that Mercury will travel over this degree again soon after Mercury turns direct.
This is a wonderful Symbol of second chances of romance, love, passion and starting over in life. Even when it feels like all chance of wonderful things have passed by, something comes back into your life and it can be inspiring, delicious and revivifying. However, it’s best not to be swept off your feet and misguided by overreaction. Nor is it a good idea to just take whatever you can get, thinking nothing better will ever come along. Analyzing your options in a mature fashion, you’ll have a deep understanding of what is possible and you can choose to be involved for the right reasons.
Keywords: Finding a renewal of love, knowledge, and interest when it looked like all opportunities had passed. Second chances. Starting over. Menopause. Romance renewed. Awakening to life’s promises. Flowering of love, life and joy. Sudden realizations.
The Caution: Believing love and romance long gone. Denying emotional expression because of social expectation. Losing heart and feeling unloved. Having no time for romance due to responsibilities. Being skeptical of love, thinking it not possible or realistic. Resenting the aged finding love. Fickleness.
Venus is on Taurus 3: NATURAL STEPS UP TO A LAWN BLOOMING WITH CLOVER
This Symbol often shows comfort, luxury, riches, beauty and the good things in life. It implies that a time of fulfillment is close by, but there often is still some small effort to be made in that one has to take the simple steps towards inviting wonderful things into your life. Keep going the way you are, following your natural intuition, and you will find the peace you have in sight. Just be aware not to become complacent or lazy as doing nothing and not putting any effort in could lead to great possibilities slipping away.
Keywords: Hopefulness. Inspirational possibilities. Gradually enlarging one’s vision. Harmony. Seasonal changes. Running around on grass. Bare feet. The beauty of greenery and flowers. Stability on the path. Steps that invite one on to bigger and better things. Abundance, nourishment. Making small efforts that can lead to large returns. Places to spread out and relax. Having plenty of room to move. Gardens and parks.

The Quest Degree of Venus is Taurus 4: THE POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW.
This Symbol speaks about connecting your inner thoughts with your rational conscious mind so you can communicate the feelings you wish to share. Like the ‘Rainbow’, this is not really about the elusive ‘Pot of Gold’ at its end, but rather it speaks of the wonder the rainbow creates as it links heaven and earth. Rewards will come from creative efforts built on talent and application. Good things sometimes just fall out of nowhere.
Keywords: The promise of riches, in whatever forms these may take. Creative imagination. Goals and ambitions. Alchemy. Splashes of color. Rewards contained. The search for the treasure. Seeking communion with nature and life’s bounty. Wealth derived from changing perspective. Talent and beauty. Fantasies. Illusions vs. reality. Fairylands.
The Caution: Seeking easy, tempting solutions. Thinking that rewards are always just “over the horizon”. Thinking that one is never going to get near “it”. Elusive success. Forgetting the more immediate things in life. Seeking perfection. Castles in the air. Pipe dreams. Fool’s paradise.
The Sabian Symbol of Mars (which is conjunct Jupiter) is Aries 5: A WHITE TRIANGLE IS SEEN; IT HAS GOLDEN WINGS
This Symbol shows the ability to be able to lift yourself above the ordinary, using your natural gifts to find a new perspective, an uplifted view; to expand your awareness. This can picture an eagerness for spiritual integration or a capacity to escape from reality. Try to ground the vision, but allow yourself the free flight of vision. There is often a strong spiritual nature that expresses itself through purity of thought and insight.

Jupiter is (conjunct Mars) on Aries 4: TWO LOVERS ARE STROLLING THROUGH A SECLUDED WALK
This Symbol speaks of spending time with a lover or with loved ones, or, addresses the issue of being alone versus being lonely. Being with someone you love and enjoying their presence without rush or pressure is likely to be important – even if this means being with that part of you that you never seem to give yourself much time for. You should be able to escape the realities of the world and touch the deeper feelings of your heart, without fear of being excluded or criticized. Try to find some time for quiet romance and balance.
Keywords: Walking love’s path. Secret love affairs. Seeking shelter from others’ eyes. Wanting or needing to be undisturbed. The young at heart. Loneliness and/or the desire to be left alone. Denial of self and needs. Not wanting contact. Rejecting those who don’t measure up. Seeing one’s partner as a possession.
The Karmic Condition of Jupiter is Aries 3: A CAMEO SHOWS THE PROFILE OF A PERSON THAT SUGGESTS THE OUTLINE OF THEIR COUNTRY
This Symbol shows that there is a need for an objective awareness of how you and your life fits into the bigger picture. You may find you have a more important role than you previously thought. Imprint your mark on life by becoming a shining example of your country, tradition, beliefs or culture. However, try not to become too identified with externals or seeking recognition from the people around you. This degree shows that it’s important to have a strong sense of who you are and your role in the world. If you are too identified with external realities you may find that your internal world is neglected. Finding a balance between inner and outer is the goal.
Keywords: Observing one’s limitations. Living a life that is large. Atlases and maps. Standing by one’s self. Allegiances with creed, religion, race or country. Nationhood. Brotherhood. The land. The Sabian Symbol of stationay retrograde Saturn – which is in a tight square with stationary direct Mercury – is Aquarius 26: A GARAGE MAN TESTING A CAR’S BATTERY WITH A HYDROMETER
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to pick up problems, to diagnose what might be wrong whether it’s mechanically, physically, spiritually or emotionally. The “Car” can be a car, or it can be your body; your earthly vehicle, and it may need some “Testing” to see how it’s coping with life’s pressures. You may need to use some type of gauge on your emotional reactions. There is often a need to take a more intuitive or psychic approach to problems, although an objective or inventive view will also bring results. Figure out any malfunctions so your life can proceed in a smoother, more efficient manner. Performing necessary checks and balances to ensure your life is working properly are part of the everyday maintenance of society.
Keywords: Testing the earthly vehicle for its roadworthiness. Situations that have “boiled-over”, bringing all to a stop. Breakdowns and the need for repair. Checking water levels. Anticipating future problems. The need for good batteries. Cars being serviced. Oil, petrol and grease. Check ups and tune-ups. Bringing forward movement to a halt.

Uranus is on Taurus 17: A SYMBOLICAL BATTLE BETWEEN `SWORDS’ THE DISCIPLES OF MIGHT, AND `TORCHES’, THE DISCIPLES OF ENLIGHTENMENT
This Symbol shows a battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil. Although we all have our own ideas of right and wrong, this Symbol shows a desire to go head-to-head in an attempt to bring light and love to situations that seem dark and foreboding. Often, there is a struggle between one’s practical needs and the underlying reasons for having those needs. You may find yourself sometimes caught up in what you are trying to achieve and have lost sight of why. There’s often corruption around, but the endeavor to bring ‘enlightenment’ to people often meets with severe resistance. Witness the stranglehold the media has on information.
Keywords: The battle of “might versus light”. The Spear of Destiny. Spiritual differences. Arguments. The story of Hitler. The Inquisition. The Crusades. Bringing love and light to war zones. The pen being mightier than the sword. Peace marches, Candles, torches. Weapons. The might of the media.

This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to see, or to accept, when it’s time for people to move on or to part from each other. They need to “Go Ahead With Their Different Projects” – their focus has changed and, quite possibly, parted ways. There’s a picture here of new beginnings. People will have their own response to situations – everyone will not react in the same way. At times in your life, you’ll have this “New Moon”, and decide to go your separate ways. It can be a good idea to direct some energy into your desires or projects at the time of the new moon. Light a candle and state your intentions with honesty and love.
Keywords: Diversifying. Applying talents in a different direction. People splitting up and splitting off. New opportunities and potentials. The beginning of a new age. Letting go of the old and outworn. Separations. Embracing one’s future without the need for others. Coming to a fork in the road. Divorces. New jobs, directions and destinies. The Karmic Condition of Neptune is Pisces 25: THE PURGING OF THE PRIESTHOOD
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to see through those who hold important positions yet abuse trust or those who make great claims but don’t live up to them. At regular times in your life, you’re likely to find yourself leaving others behind, kicking them out, or experiencing falls from grace. Periodically, there is a need to examine moral and spiritual sincerity. It is easy to allow those who don’t really belong to stay because of familiarity or habit. We can lose sight of the ideal through our rationalizing intellect, ego and emotive passion. There is a need to cleanse and purify your life, leading to better spiritual values. What side of the “Purging” are you on? Are you the one with the ‘right motives’? Who’s in charge?
Keywords: Revealing the truth of people for who and what they truly are. Cutting people off. Throwing out things that don’t measure up. Forced retirement and redundancies. Payouts at the end of employment. Dismissals. Opting out for moral reasons. Being fired. Holes left where someone took up a lot of space. Being voted out.

Wanting to appear to be doing the right thing. Coverups. The burning of books. Perversion.
Stationary retrograde Pluto is on Capricorn 29: A WOMAN READING TEA LEAVES
This Symbol shows the ability to, or the need for, being able to see things that others miss, and being able to use the intuition in order to receive the gifts that divination can bring. While others just see something simple like a tea cup, you can have the ability to weave a story for yourself and others about how life will, or can, be. One has to put aside skepticism and be able to embrace trust and intuitive knowing in order to be able to listen to the messages that are around you. Be open to seeing meaning through the catalyst of the simplest of everyday events. You will receive messages, if you are open to ‘seeing’ the signs. You may have to deal with skeptical people in your life.
Keywords: Symbolism opening pathways to the spiritual center. Seeing the signs. Seeing signatures in small things that others miss. Intuition and clairvoyance. Creative visualization. The “Directors” meet, they conference or just conference call, they exchange views, ideas, gossip. There may be decisions to be made or plans to be laid out. Do you make all your decisions on your own, or do you need help? You can often call on the relevant knowledgeable friends or authorities, as you’re bound to know them or how to meet them, and you’ll iron out the details. Sometimes, your intuitive powers are at a real high but your physical energy may not be. You may be tired and in need of help to get everything done and a lot may be demanded of you. This Symbol shows ascension or evolution to higher states of being. You may find your self, at times during your life, having a transformative realization that will take your focus away from the baser, animal instincts, to a more evolved, higher spiritual perception. This can lead to having higher codes of living; operating on elevated planes of being. Coming to terms with one’s vital energies can free you up to find a higher state of being.
