August’s full Moon is on the 12th and it’s another doozy with this one truly being one for the books. With the tensions being felt in the air on so many fronts, many are being pushed into more and more fear, especially with the ‘unknown’ lurking on so many levels. Just about everywhere that one looks, there’s fear and trepidation hanging in the air, a lot of it manufactured and pressed on us by the media, and, with Uranus and Saturn so featured in this lunation, it looks set to go off the charts (the fear mongering, especially).
It is very apparent that, with the financial situations being in a state of collapse in so many areas, the ‘powers that be’ (whoever they are) are wanting war. It’s so transparent that this is being engineered as ‘they’ need a war in order to ramp up their coffers. I make an apology for being so full-on with my assessment, but, perhaps those still listening to the media need to turn it off. I say this for somewhat obvious reasons, however, many still give credence to what’s being said on the airwaves. Having said that, I would like to see people concentrating their thoughts on the White Dove of this full Moon. It’s what we have to hold on to.
Uranus and Saturn being so closely involved in this full Moon can bring extreme shocks, yes, and we might be wondering ‘what’s next?‘ Is it the coronavirus, monkey pox, polio, HIV, war with Russia, war with China, and now the talk of a possible nuclear attack, it is that we’re all going to die from climate change? – what the heck. Finding our equilibrium can be a test to our sensibilities, but, it is entirely necessary as always, but especially now.
Of course, Uranus and Saturn being so strongly featured, in our personal lives we might see many truths that we’ve been avoiding, we might get more and more insights into what’s going on, both on a personal and more political world-view level, and this can be a good thing. We might see how we’ve put up with situations, people, places, things, etc, that we need to let go of. We may have epiphanies into those things that we have to get rid of – to lighten our loads. This can be a very good outcome to this time – we can find ourselves and our lives changed in very positive ways and the key to it, I believe, is to not go along with the fear. BTW, if you have trouble reading what Michael Leunig’s cartoon above says, check out this link.
To explain – as we know, the full Moon is a time of opposition, the Sun and the Moon opposing each other from opposite signs, and this can bring about an increased sense of illumination, but with this one, we also have the Moon’s nodes (which are, of course, always opposite each other) almost *exactly* squaring this full Moon. And, Uranus is smack on the north node, and, we’ve just had Mars there. The Sabian Symbol of the Mars, Uranus and node conjunction is Taurus 19: A NEW CONTINENT EMERGES FROM THE OCEAN. With this Symbol being highlighted, we are being pushed to see new possibilities, new alternatives, new phases of being, etc, emerging in our lives. This can be a good thing, I want to emphasise that. In some cases, though, this ‘new emergence’ can be somewhat painful as realisations settle in and we are being pushed to let go of the old ways of being.
Trying not to repeat myself, but, not being pushed into fear is our biggest challenge, I believe, especially as Venus moves onto Leo 2 just hours after this full Moon. The Sabian Symbol being AN EPIDEMIC OF MUMPS, we have to watch for our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, gossip, etc, getting out of hand as it can just contribute to energies racing ahead of ourselves into more and more fear.
Well, the message is not all about fear (that word has been used a few too many times in this newsletter already), it’s important to concentrate on the idea of liberation.
I want to say much more about these energies but feel somewhat tongue-tied. I’m going to just ask that we concentrate on that White Dove of Aquarius 20.
Jupiter’s message is about seeing into things, especially those things that others may miss. Jupiter is on Aries 9: A SEER GAZES INTENTLY INTO A CRYSTAL BALL IN FRONT OF THEM – what are the messages coming through to you now?

The following is my full interpretation of the Sabian Symbol for this full Moon – Aquarius 20: A LARGE WHITE DOVE BEARING A MESSAGE from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom: –
Commentary: ‘A Large White Dove Bearing a Message’ shows messages of peace and love. The ‘Dove’ is a symbol of innocence, gentleness and affection; also, in art and in the Scriptures, it is the typical symbol of the Holy Ghost. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Ghost descended in the shape of a ‘Dove’. It also symbolizes the soul and as such is sometimes represented coming out of the mouths of saints at death. ‘Doves’ are a symbol of inspiration and divine guidance. A caged ‘Dove’ signifies the human soul imprisoned in the flesh and held captive during the period of mortal life. They can represent peace and in this Symbol the ‘Large White Dove is Bearing a Message’. The ‘Dove’ brought to Noah a bough of an olive-tree as a sign that the deluge of wrath that was unleashed by the flood was over. Further ‘Doves’ are said to be able to perform miracles with their ‘Messages’. Mahomet’s miracle from the Koran speaks of a white ‘Dove’ whispering a ‘Message’ from God into Mahomet’s ear.
Oracle: You may need to solve your situation by relying on peaceful messages that come from either outside or inside of yourself. A ‘Message’ is very likely to be on its way, one that you may have been waiting to hear for some time. This ‘Message’ can reassure your spiritual center and will probably be offered with gentleness and without malice. Further, someone could say or reveal something that changes the whole situation, turning it around. However, it could be that the ‘Message’ is not an easy one for someone to deliver. It may cause you to have to face something you’d rather not. Whatever, the ‘Large White Dove’ can be quietly reassuring that everything will be okay in the end. Healing rifts between people with promises of improvements, faith and trust will uplift the spirit. Miracles are known to happen, so it’s best to hold to positive outcomes. After all, Noah had to do that on his Ark. Listen intently for ‘Messages’ as they will be around you, in one way or another.
Keywords: Being seen as a savior or one who needs saving. Blessings delivered—all will be well. Celebration. Somebody who brings blessed relief. Issues of hope and salvation. The Covenant. News. Announcements. Peace movements. The Rainbow Warrior. Utopian idealism. Olive branches.
The Caution: Staying with the assumption that things will never improve. Refusing solace. Shooting the messenger. Not trusting the good things in life. Not being content with any message that’s relayed. Insincere messages caused by the pain of not facing the real truth.
The Karmic Condition (the previous degree) of this full Moon is Aquarius 19: A FOREST FIRE FINALLY QUENCHED
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to rise to the occasion and quench the flames of “Fires” that can leap out of their boundaries and take control of your life. Enthusiastic drive and zeal can sometimes set off an almost uncontrollable and destructive chain of events. You may find that you sometimes get caught up in such situations, emotional or physical. There is likely to be no choice but to fight for control and minimize the destruction. Any efforts will be, at last, successful. You are likely to come out of some life-threatening experiences with a new sense of commitment or a better understanding of the consequences of your actions.
Keywords: Exuberant feelings that come after struggles. Coming out of an experience with a new sense of commitment or a new understanding of consequences. Getting a bee in your bonnet. Spot fires. Jubilation and release after hard labor. Fighting for control. Sparks getting out of control. Events taking off in all directions. Sexual energy and the containment of it. Ideas that get whipped up and take off at high speed. The ferocity of nature. The calm after the storm. Smouldering passions. Smoke. One-eyed focus.
The Caution: Giving up too soon and losing it all. Self-defeating delight in drama. Looking back on a situation that got out of control and produced a lot of rubble. Destructive passions. Losing one’s spark. Running out of fuel. Feeling burnt out. Exhaustion and despair at what’s lost.
The Quest Degree (the degree following) of this full Moon is Aquarius 21: A WOMAN DISAPPOINTED AND DISILLUSIONED, COURAGEOUSLY FACING THE FUTURE
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be “Courageous” in the face of “Disappointment” or Disillusionment”. The “Woman” may have always thought things would be different but one day she wakes up to find that her dreams have not born fruit as yet. Still, there’s always hope and faith that things will turn around and get better. There can be feelings of wasting energy, and thoughts of failure, but being strong and vigilant against negative thoughts can turn situations around quickly. It always helps to look on disappointment as a teacher. Reconnect with what is available and possible, and, although it requires courage to get back on track, we always return with greater wisdom and understanding.
Keywords: Breaking through illusions. Facing stark reality with hope. Loneliness and depression overcome. Positive outlooks. Counting one’s blessings. Looking towards the future. Having to battle through relationship losses while maintaining a sense of self and purpose. Turning points reached. Having a belief in miracles. Choosing joy.
The Caution: Wallowing in failure. Not seeing the joy and beauty of one’s life. Accepting defeat. Feeling like all is lost. Bitterness. Walling one’s self off from others. Not trusting people. Finding nothing to be happy about. Feeling deserted and alone. Not letting go of the past. Injuries. Infertility. Incurable “dis-eases”. Unrequited love. The loss of the partner. Staring into space. Being a sad, old person.
The Sabian Symbol of the Sun is Leo 20: AMERICAN INDIANS PERFORM A RITUAL TO THE SUN
This Symbol shows the need for people in society to regularly indulge in ceremonies, rituals or initiations that bond people together. You may feel the need to get back to natural elements, responding more to your intuitive feelings than rational structure. People enjoy coming together to revere and respect both the natural environment and others in their society. The ways of cultures, ancient and new, can provide a wonderful platform for performing rituals, whether they be spiritual or social. This degree can show a desire to return to nature and reveling in the larger picture. There is, also, a need to show respect if you go into traditional acts of other cultures; to be careful not to insult other people’s ways and beliefs.
Keywords: Restoring spirit. Rituals and worship. The desire to return to nature. Shining through one’s life, not through social credentials. Sweat lodges. Drum-beating. Celebrating a unique heritage. Participation with nature’s cycles. Eclipses. Smudging. Reveling in the larger picture leading to belonging and oneness. Fire, passion, spontaneity, sacrifice. Restoring sacredness. American Indian traditions. Vision quests. Fasting. Courage. Conquering bad habits and attitudes. The truth of conviction. Prayer. Eagle feathers. Baptisms of fire.
The Caution: Egoistic responses to life situations leading to narrow responses. Relying on rituals to manifest magic. Losing sight of the meaning of ceremony. Holding onto tradition without intuiting new and modern truths. Living in the past. Cult worship. Losing identity in one’s own culture. Sunstroke.
The Sabian Symbol of Mercury is Virgo 13: A POWERFUL STATESMAN OVERCOMES A STATE OF POLITICAL HYSTERIA
You may find that your situation is whipped up as people get carried away with the energy that’s around. There is a need to get the upper hand to bring about a stabilized outcome—to ‘Overcome’ the ‘Hysteria’. It is through the ‘Power’ of the personality, being the ‘Powerful Statesman’, that things can be resolved and brought to a state of equilibrium. Regaining control of one’s thoughts, psyche and emotions can ease tensions and bring the situation back to normal. Changing one’s mind about an issue that may have been overpowering can enable a whole new view of your position in life to crystallize. Employing discipline and control helps on a physical, mental or spiritual level.
Keywords: The power to sway the mob. Having the charisma and talent to turn situations around. Elements of personality that get out of control and take over. Pulling the rope tight. Mind control. Political savvy. Knowing what to say and when to say it. Keeping your mouth shut and ears open. Rhetoric. Putting out spot fires. Being motivated. Issues of success.
The Caution: Conscious emotional manipulation and bullying. Misusing energy. Swaying others to personal advantage. Being aggressive, demanding and overbearing. Hypnotic persuasion. Propaganda. Misinformation. Using “political speak” to control. Emotional repression.
Venus is on Leo 1: UNDER EMOTIONAL STRESS, BLOOD RUSHES TO A PERSON’S HEAD
This Symbol implies that emotions in the form of anger or passion can get in the way of rational responses and being able to move ahead purposefully. Sometimes it feels like almost nothing can be done; being immobilized with neither mental nor physical control. It won’t last forever; it will pass and resistance can just make some situations worse. The trick is to wait until all the available data comes through before making decisions or moves as premature reactions can lead to embarrassing back downs. Thinking things through when calm descends again will help sort things out.
Keywords: Ambition. Becoming fired-up. Charging off in all directions at once. Dizziness and disorientation. Nervous breakdowns. Not acting like one’s usual self. Events coming to a head. Feeling like one will explode at any moment. Too many obligations to live up to. Feeling incapable of action. Too much excitement to contain safely. Headaches. Blood pressure. Erections. Animal passions.
The Caution: Becoming ill through emotional suppression. Losing one’s cool. Going off the deep end. Lack of self-restraint. Taking things too seriously. Grumpiness and irritability. Not knowing how to act or respond. Difficulty containing emotional reactions. Unable to make accurate decisions due to irrational thoughts. Sunburn.
Mars is on Taurus 26: A SPANIARD SERENADING HIS SENORITA
This Symbol speaks of being able to use one’s voice, words, songs, poetry and culture to sway the minds and hearts of others. One can sway others to achieve a desire result. There is no guarantee of total success, but you must act if you want any chance of succeeding and you need to put your heart and soul into the performance. The worst that could be damaged is a little ego, so think positively and play your role with enthusiasm and passion. Music can lift the spirits and words of poetry and love can be healing.
Shared feelings, love or passion may result.
Keywords: Looking through pretence. Shared feelings, love or passion. Spontaneity. Welling expressions of romance. Being in tune with another. Soul mates. Chivalry. Reverting back to old methods of relating. Spinning tales to get a response. Knowing what to say and when. Music, singing, crooning, talking. Instruments. The use of the voice. Foreign voices. Guitars. Getting one’s message across.
The Caution: A ruse performed to achieve a goal by deception. Lies, deceit and propaganda. Not believing messages given by loved ones. Feeling like something is missing from a relationship. Superficial judgments of how things should look or be. Emotional manipulation. Selfish agendas. Things said merely to sway someone’s feelings. Empty promises or declarations. Pouring out the heart to deaf ears.
Jupiter is retrograde on Aries 9: A SEER GAZES INTENTLY INTO A CRYSTAL BALL IN FRONT OF THEM
In your situation the whole picture is probably right before you but you may need help in interpreting its meaning. With a little concentrated effort, you will be able to see things more clearly. Find or retrieve information and clues by really looking at the structure of things. What are you doing and how are you focusing towards what you really want? The more you narrow your ‘Gaze’, and the more you trust in your own intuition, the sharper and clearer the focus will become. What is your unconscious mind trying to tell you? Find something to focus on, something beautiful, illuminating or inspiring in some way.
Keywords: Flashes of inspiration. Tuning in and looking within for answers. Creative visualizations. Aura readings. Cutting through irrelevant messages. Looking carefully at structure. Seeking perfection. Clairvoyance. Illumination and deep insights. Looking ahead to see the signs.
The Caution: Confused by literal meanings. Not seeing the symbolic message. Always looking this way and that, not at the center. Getting lost in the big picture. Daydreaming and ignoring what’s really going on. Obsessing over what may happen. Needing to know what’s coming up. Being impatient.
Saturn is retrograde on Aquarius 23: A BIG BEAR SITTING DOWN AND WAVING ALL ITS PAWS
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to develop responses and perform above and beyond the normal expected level. Issues of having to do what others tell you, or having to perform along the lines of how you’ve been trained may be fine for a while, but eventually you are likely to tire of doing the same things or not being taken seriously. Perhaps there are things you don’t want to do, but it seems your duty to perform. Look to your situation and see if you are compromising yourself or just acting out conditioned responses. Perhaps you are indeed excelling your normal level of performance, only you can tell.
Keywords: Developing skills. Making excuses. Performing rote responses. Expecting others to perform. Entertaining people. Being theatrical. Stomach rubs. Big, tall, brute energies. Sitting down or standing up. Fur and fuzzy hair. Playing instruments. Dancing. Performances. Arm waving. Animal training. Bears. Training. Learning by example. Fun vs. drudge.
The Caution: Being unable to recover one’s feet. Instinctive and creative performances for the crowd. Fatuous need to be the center of attention. Defying authority. Vulnerable. Working against normal instincts or desires. Flapping one’s arms. Sitting things out. Making a big noise, but doing nothing. Being cranky, ill tempered. Crazy behavior. Not having a mind of one’s own. Giving up control of one’s destiny. Mindless and brainless. Drugs and dope. Loss of spontaneity.
The Quest Degree of retrograde Saturn is Aquarius 22: A RUG PLACED ON A FLOOR FOR CHILDREN TO PLAY ON
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to rest in the knowledge that you are supported, have a place to live, grow, thrive, play and to be safe. The “Rug” may be a small area that you’re assigned in life for your activities, or it may be a very large patch of area. Whatever it is, you will not want to have the ‘rug pulled from under your feet’; you’ll want to be assured that you have a home and security. At times, you may feel that you, or someone else, are struggling as you seek to grow and develop. Even if you are not aware of it, there are cushions, safeguards and protection all around you. There is a need for somewhere safe to live and prosper. Perhaps you need to provide this for others or have others provide it for you?
Keywords: Comfort and care provided. The caring and longing for children. Having a place of belonging. A sense of security. Rugs, carpets, cribs and cots. Defining areas of possible activity. Being aware of the needs of the young. Adoption. Sleeping on the floor or the sofa. Fun, joy, toys. Playing with others. Nurseries. Day care. Cribs. Play pens. Having a safe place to live and be.
The Caution: Being overprotected. Not growing up. Insulation from reality. Self-indulgence. Limits of activity. Having the rug pulled. Expecting to be looked after vs. self-reliance. Assuming the young and inexperienced can look after themselves. Lines that shouldn’t be crossed. Territorial attitudes. Always having to watch the young ones. Inability to relax. Infertility.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary Uranus is Taurus 19: A NEW CONTINENT IS RISING OUT OF THE OCEAN
This Symbol shows the rising of a new place, a new place to be, a new country or somewhere to be or to live. It implies that you can find that extra spark to create a brand new, original opportunity. This pictures the beginning of something that holds an enormous amount of potential for the future. There is much work to be done developing this into something fertile and productive. A whole new field of activity is coming to light. What you have done in the past has led you to this, but these new beginnings need to be met with a fresh sense of purpose and possibility.
Keywords: Enormous potentiality emerging. New trends and ways of being. Sudden eruptions of talent or fields of endeavor. The greenhouse effect. Global warming. Atlantis and other ancient underwater cities. Evolution. Patience. Developing slowly but surely. Emerging generations of people. New environments. Things feeling suddenly foreign. The birth of a nation. Migration. Land masses. Endeavouring to hold life together under the enormous pressure of the new.
The Caution: Continually seeking “new worlds” rather than finding a place in the existing one. No responsibility for the birth of the new. No respect for the old or established. Not shifting or evolving. Staying stuck in old realities.
The Sabian Symbol of retrograde Neptune is Pisces 25: THE PURGING OF THE PRIESTHOOD
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to see through those who hold
important positions yet abuse trust or those who make great claims but don’t live up to them. At regular times in your life, you’re likely to find yourself leaving others behind, kicking them out, or experiencing falls from grace. Periodically, there is a need to examine moral and spiritual sincerity. It is easy to allow those who don’t really belong to stay because of familiarity or habit. We can lose sight of the ideal through our rationalizing intellect, ego and emotive passion. There is a need to cleanse and purify your life, leading to better spiritual values. What side of the “Purging” are you on? Are you the one with the ‘right motives’? Who’s in charge?
Keywords: Revealing the truth of people for who and what they truly are. Cutting people off. Throwing out things that don’t measure up. Forced retirement and redundancies. Payouts at the end of employment. Dismissals. Opting out for moral reasons. Being fired. Holes left where someone took up a lot of space.
The Caution: Stressful battle over who’s in charge. Blackmail. The threat of being thrown out. Something being revealed. Evicting people because they deceive, lie or mislead or just because they’re not liked. Bringing somebody down. Scapegoating others. Corruption and scandal that threaten collapse. Wanting to appear to be doing the right thing. Coverups. The burning of books. Perversion.
Pluto is retrograde on Capricorn 27: A MOUNTAIN PILGRIMAGE
This Symbol shows the ability to, or the need for, being able to climb high, to rise to occasions, perform well, have a mission and, probably most importantly, to embark on spiritual journeys. Many people travel, but more often than not it implies a spiritual striving; an ascent in consciousness and the ability to transcend earthier, immediate matters. There is always the desire, or the need, to strive further, to learn more on the path to understanding and transcendence. You may desire to follow those that have gone before you to achieve a true sense of inner fulfillment. Work towards your own ‘mountain top’. The effort may be great, but so are the rewards.
Keywords: Ascent in consciousness. Spiritual, material, corporate or political striving. Having an entourage of people (or wanting one). Aloneness and separation. Setting off to somewhere else. Going on a mission. Finding one’s spiritual grounding. Getting back to the purer elements of life. Ambitions to get to the top. Wanting the highest office in the land.
The Caution: High moral stands with no depth of feeling. Feeling “high above” others. Feelings of being, or acting like, an ascended being. Haughtiness. Intellectual snobbery. People scrambling for the top. The “tall poppy” syndrome. Ambitions that know no bounds. People ridiculing others for their lesser position. Spiritual or corporate struggling for position.
Chiron is retrograde on Aries 17: TWO PRIM SPINSTERS SITTING TOGETHER IN SILENCE
This Symbol shows that quiet withdrawal might be just what you need, but it is easy to become isolated in conservative, albeit moral, ideas. You may find that there is only a select, restricted group with whom you wish to associate. Be wary that this false sense of security doesn’t isolate you from change and growth. Unresolved issues can lead to stunted emotional responses. Look for opportunities to open up to new possibilities. People don’t want to talk to each other if they feel their relationship has become boring, with nowhere to go and without much of a future. If people have nothing to say to each other should they spend their time together?
Keywords: The need to loosen up emotional blockages. The struggle to hold onto one’s original identity. Compromise because of social expectations. Meditations that communicate. Exclusive relationships. Relationships that have a quiet “knowing”. Dignified silence. Inner withdrawal. Communicating through body language.
The Caution: Emotional isolation. Refusing to accept relationship. Pretending to be someone that one is not. Disapproval of younger, more vital energies. Being fussy and judgmental. Chattering that is not conducive to growth or true relating. Gossip. Difficulty in communicating. Being shutoff, or shutdown. The loss of joy and spontaneity.
The Moon’s north node is on Taurus 18: A WOMAN AIRING AN OLD BAG THROUGH A SUNNY WINDOW TO GIVE IT AIR AND SUNSHINE
This Symbols speaks of clearing up clutter, washing and purifying and bring and air and light to situations. It often symbolizes psychotherapy and other self help disciplines that cleanse and purify the mind, emotions and soul. There is often the need to clean out your cupboards, along with your old habits and routines. By keeping everything in your inner self, you can cause a clutter that is restricting. Bring these things to the outer world and see if they are still relevant in the light of day, discarding those that don’t measure up.
Keywords: Psychoanalysis. Past life regressions or memories. Doing domestic chores with a feeling of purpose. Work shopping ideas. Bringing light and freshness to old feelings. Renewal. Throwing out the old or outlived. Cleaning out rooms. Renovations. Letting the sunshine in.
The Caution: Expecting others to take responsibility for cleaning up and airing out. Hanging on to outworn things and memories. Airing one’s ‘dirty laundry’ in public. Rehashing old situations. Going over the same ground over and over. Bringing up issues when it’s inappropriate. Depressed attitudes.
The Moon’s south node is on Scorpio 18: A QUIET PATH THROUGH WOODS BRILLIANT IN AUTUMN COLORING
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to know when to keep going with something and when to let it go. It also shows the ability to transform one’s life or yourself in a step-by-step manner, taking seasonal conditions and age into account. It also shows a quiet, reflective nature and a need, or the desire, to take time off to be in peaceful surroundings – to indulge in nature and peace and quiet for contemplation and meditation. There’s a feeling of knowing that the preparation for change has resulted from the fruits of your labor. Be aware of what you harvest or just what the harvest might be. Take a deep breath and infuse yourself with the gifts of nature.
Keywords: Rewards of plenty. Transformations through the different seasons of one’s life. Overcoming battles and disappointments. Finding peace. Layers of personality issues flaking off with maturity. Gardens, sometimes off the beaten track. Taking time out to reflect on nature. The feeling of change in the air. Mature and elegant responses. Rich colors. Memories and memoirs. Taking life one day at a time. Overcoming loss through positive attitudes. Warm responses. A calm knowingness. Reverence and respect. Having a “been there, done that” attitude.
The Caution: Being too late for the harvest. Concentrating on the past. Being oblivious to nature’s beauty. Resisting the flow of the seasons. Feeling that winter is upon you with no way out. Issues of growing old. Being alone in one’s “autumn years”.
