A man must have a good deal of vanity who believes, and a good deal of boldness who affirms, that all the doctrines he holds are true, and all he rejects are false. Benjamin Franklin

What is true preaching like? Instead of preaching to others, if one worships God all the time, that is enough preaching. He who strives to make himself free is the real preacher. Hundreds come from all sides, no one knows whence, to him who is free, and are taught by him. When a rosebud blooms, the bees come from all sides uninvited and unasked. Sri Ramakrishna

A fool always finds some greater fool to admire him. Nicholas Boileau

Condense some daily experience into a glowing symbol, and the audience is electrified. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater. Gail Godwin

September’s Pisces Harvest Moon occurs on September 10. This full Moon feels particularly Piscean in flavour, even if there’s only the Moon and Neptune in that sign. The Sabian Symbols are particularly evocative in that they speak of the need for faith (and the the resurrection of it), and, there’s more than a hint of having to weed through what’s being said or shown to us in order to get to the fuller picture of what’s actually unfolding. We are seeing many things being revealed, sometimes rather startlingly fast, whilst at other times we’ve been waiting for these truths to come to light for a few years. We are especially cautioned not to blindly believe what we are being told but to process what needs to be processed and to see through the rest.

Along with the changing tide that we’re seeing in our lives (personally and politically), and, with the passing of Queen Elizabeth, we are entering a new era  with many uncertainties. It seems that we’ll have King Charles III as the new monarch. It will be interesting to see how his very strong involvement with the World Economic Forum will match up with his new role. As far as I know, once king, he is restricted from speaking politically – I’m not entirely sure how that’s going to work out.

The passing of the Queen begins a period of ten days of mourning. Amongst a lot of other transits and progressions that she was having, she has transiting retrograde Saturn exactly conjunct her natal Mars on Aquarius 21: A WOMAN DISSAPOINTED AND DISILLUSIONED, FACING A SEEMINGLY EMPTY LIFE (this is also the Queen’s progressed Moon right now). Being in a Commonwealth country (Australia), I have heard several people really feeling the grief of losing the Queen. With the ten days of mourning, Saturn moves retrograde onto Aquarius 20: A LARGE WHITE DOVE BEARING A MESSAGE (which is the Karmic Degree of the Queen’s Mars, and, it was her progressed Moon for the last month). No doubt, we will see doves in the coming week or so. The Karmic Degree of this full Moon is Pisces 16: AN EASTER PROMENADE. It’s interesting to note that the Queen’s Mother passed away on Easter Sunday (in 2002). There’s a lot more that can be said about the Symbols for this emergence, including Uranus on Taurus 19: A NEW CONTINENT ARISES FROM THE OCEAN – this feels like a time of strong change.

Around the world, energy prices are going through the roof (there’s a pun there), and, people are feeling more than just ‘the pinch’. Some cannot heat or cool their homes because of the escalating costs of fuel – some can’t eat or rent a house, etc, etc. Here in Oz, for instance, my gas bill (not petrol – gas) for my cottage in the mountains was over $1,000 this quarter. Madness. The reasons given for these steep increases in costs don’t line up with logical reasoning – we are being rorted, plain and simple.

The Moon’s north node is on Taurus 15: A PERSON WITH A SILK HAT, MUFFLED AGAINST THE COLD, BRAVES A STORM, and, Mars is on Gemini 11: A SLAVE GIRL DEMANDS HER RIGHTS OF HER MISTRESS. With many in the U.K., Italy and other countries burning their energy bills or refusing to pay them, things are most likely going to get even more interesting. It’s to be noted that after Mars goes retrograde at the end of October, it traverses over several Gemini ‘going on strike’ degrees – almost the exact same degrees that Venus travelled retrograde over in May and June of 2020. More protests and demonstrations to come.

The main theme of this full Moon, though, is cutting through the crap to the truth. While we are being entertained on some level about something-or-another, there’s a sleight of hand happening covering up what’s really going on. My sense is that we need to tune into our own ‘authority’, or knowingness, and, to be vigilant about the spin we’re being fed. A lot more is coming to light. And, as Jupiter tells us, we can look for ‘the light’ – it’s the way out of feeling walled or boxed in. Jupiter is on Aries 6: A SQUARE BRIGHTLY LIGHTED ON ONE SIDE. Solutions can be illuminated, particularly if we’re paying attention.

The Sabian Symbol for September’s Pisces full Moon is Pisces 17: IN A HUGE TENT A FAMOUS REVIVALIST CONDUCTS HIS MEETING WITH A SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE – the following is my full interpretation of this degree from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom: –

Commentary: ‘In a Huge Tent a Famous Revivalist Conducts His Meeting With a Spectacular Performance’. This pictures somebody who has the ability to get people up and going on a spiritual, emotional and physical level. Words of hope and redemption and the giving of one’s self to higher purposes and goals are delivered. He works hard to ensure that his words strike the minds and hearts of those listening. Singing and dancing can erupt out of people in celebration. This is largely the result of the passion of the ‘Famous Revivalist’ and the audience may be very inspired by the occasion with people joining in, in some way.

Oracle: You may find there is a need to organize and stage a display of the situation, bringing the community together in a common goal. The symbolism of the ‘Huge Tent’ can represent many things; it can be a school hall, a church, a circus tent, an outdoor arena all the way up to something such as the worldwide web. It indicates anywhere people come together to experience a lecture or a performance, or, as this Symbol pictures ‘A Famous Revivalist’. They gather to listen to inspired and inspiring messages being delivered. There is a need for caution, though, as sometimes this can picture situations of hysteria, overstating one’s case, or having the audience get out of control. With the power to influence or sway groups of people, there needs to be some feeling of care and moderation. People are often prepared to listen, but for how long? Is the audience listening? Is the cause just? The person ‘Conducting His Meeting’ may be arrogant and believe that only he has the true answers. Sometimes the ‘Revivalist’ may need to top up his own knowledge, feelings and understanding about life and spirituality by listening to those around him.

Keywords: Energy and inspiration. Evangelism. Whipped up emotions. Having a lot to say. Being instructional and dogmatic about how things should be. Being in charge. Ecstasy. Loud voices. Conversations that are said out loud. Acoustics affecting sounds. Preaching. Mind control. Performing. Political, religious and spiritual activism. Showmanship. Transformative experiences. Captivated audiences. The media circus.

The Caution: Using spiritualism for greedy financial gain. Overblown feelings of one’s abilities. Big egos. Hysteria. People whipped-up and manipulated by those in charge. Having the agenda of controlling others. Feeling that one has all the answers. Getting het-up about ideals and beliefs. Manipulation and exploitation. Bigotry.

The Karmic Condition (the previous degree) of this Pisces full Moon is Pisces 17: AN EASTER PROMENADE

This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to regularly join with others in order to celebrate your community’s religious, spiritual or cultural ideas. To “Promenade” is to take a leisurely walk. That it’s done at “Easter” reveals that at times in your life there will be a need to resurrect some of your hopes and dreams and visions and missions in order to bring them back into your life and to give them shape and form. There is regularly a need to share with others to celebrate your community’s religious or spiritual aspirations and ideals. No matter how structured or organized this celebration is, if it’s done with joy and warmth of feeling, it will inspirit the group, infusing them with a sense of emotional unity.

Keywords: Renewed faith in one’s life circumstances. Rising up from doubt, fear and loss. Public holidays and their celebrations. Dressing up. Easter bonnets. Easter eggs, chickens and the fertility rites of spring. Rebirth. Forgiveness. Joy. Spiritual unity. Religious holidays. Worship. Renewal. Parades. Transformation.

The Caution: Superficial shows of unity. Craving for attention. Always needing an excuse to get together and unite. Empty displays of faith or joy. Doing things only because everyone else is doing them. Feeling lost, alone and forsaken in the crowd. Guilt trips. Exclusion of other faiths. Religious domination.

The Quest Degree (the following degree) of this full Moon is Pisces 19: A MASTER INSTRUCTING THEIR DISCIPLE|

This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to be a student, a “Disciple”, or a teacher, a “Master”. At times in your life you’ll find yourself being either one or the other. You may be the teacher or the pupil, but remember that it is often the teacher that learns and the pupil that teaches. This shows taking time for the transfer of higher knowledge and wisdom. It’s also a sign to listen to your own higher wisdom. Someone with something worthwhile to say will usually find someone eager to listen. When you have a need to learn something, usually the “Master” will appear.

Keywords: To give and to receive. Lessons that need to be well learnt. The transfer of knowledge. Taking time to instruct others. Being willing to both teach and learn. Step-by-step lessons. Passing on information. Instructions and directions. Laying down the law with someone. Manuscripts and lessons. Masters. Gurus. Guiding lights. Reinforcement of knowledge, wisdom and spirituality. Listening and learning. Knowing what questions to ask. Doing homework. Being or setting a good example.

The Caution: Dogmatic instruction by rote. Talking down to others, thinking they know less. Someone having a “know it all” attitude. Manipulating people for one’s personal agenda. Using knowledge as power over people. Feeling above everyone else. Co-dependant behaviour. One-eyed attitudes. Losing oneself in another.

The Sabian Symbol of the Sun is Virgo 18: TWO GIRLS PLAYING WITH A OUIJA BOARD

There is a desire to contact a deeper wisdom and you may need some assistance to help you focus on the message. Youthful attempts at using tools to discover the deeper meanings of life can bring surprising results. However, there can be very little control over what is coming through from “the other side”. You may have to just sit and observe. Sometimes there’s a need to explore these realms with others and there is often something scary about them. What is likely to happen if you leave yourself open and vulnerable? This Symbol can suggest the need to be with someone who shares the same beliefs and interests in life, and to have the curiosity to find out things that may not be immediately apparent. If someone you are in partnership with is reluctant to see things from a similar spiritual or esoteric perspective as you, you might find the relationship breaking down. One partner may be more “straight”, the other more eager to take a chance and explore.

Keywords: Immature curiosity leading to messages and inner guidance. Listening devices. Tuning into possible meanings. Ouija boards. Séances. Clairvoyant abilities. Spirits of the departed. Contact with the “other side”. Messages coming through from unknown sources. Spiritualism. Ectoplasms. Concentrated attention. Poltergeists. Haunted houses. Cold energies. Bringing spirit through. Moving furniture. Phenomena. Weird and spooky. Seeing ghosts. Being a channel.

The Caution: Dealing with situations beyond one’s maturity. Looking for information instead of getting on with life. Naive playing with potentially dangerous elements. Seeking easy answers to avoid responsibility. Fooling around. Superstitious responses to natural phenomena.

Neptune, the ruler of this Pisces full Moon, is retrograde on Pisces 25: THE PURGING OF THE PRIESTHOOD

This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to see through those who hold important positions yet abuse trust or those who make great claims but don’t live up to them. At regular times in your life, you’re likely to find yourself leaving others behind, kicking them out, or experiencing falls from grace. Periodically, there is a need to examine moral and spiritual sincerity. It is easy to allow those who don’t really belong to stay because of familiarity or habit. We can lose sight of the ideal through our rationalizing intellect, ego and emotive passion. There is a need to cleanse and purify your life, leading to better spiritual values. What side of the “Purging” are you on? Are you the one with the ‘right motives’? Who’s in charge?

Keywords: Revealing the truth of people for who and what they truly are. Cutting people off. Throwing out things that don’t measure up. Forced retirement and redundancies. Payouts at the end of employment. Dismissals. Opting out for moral reasons. Being fired. Holes left where someone took up a lot of space.

The Caution: Stressful battle over who’s in charge. Blackmail. The threat of being thrown out. Something being revealed. Evicting people because they deceive, lie or mislead or just because they’re not liked. Bringing somebody down. Scapegoating others. Corruption and scandal that threaten collapse. Wanting to appear to be doing the right thing. Coverups. The burning of books. Perversion.

The Sabian Symbol of stationary retrograde Mercury is Libra 9: THREE OLD MASTERS HANGING IN A SPECIAL ROOM IN AN ART GALLERY, SOMETIMES THEY SEEM TO SPEAK TO EACH OTHER

This Symbol speaks of beauty, art and wisdom. An ‘Art Gallery’ brings treasures from our culture, our world and the world around us. Time often doesn’t seem to exist in this realm – all is timeless. This Symbol can show speaking to others about abstract concepts, art and culture, often on a higher level. Quiet contemplation of art, especially if people aren’t around to distract, can bring rewards on many levels. Everyday chatter that doesn’t go deep or explore life’s beauties can be useless and mundane but communicating on a deeper, more creative and spiritual level brings interesting insights and answers.

Keywords: Truth in the image. Intuitive vision. Reverence for art, form and tradition. Images bringing messages. Art collections and collecting art. Photographs. Capturing life in a work of art. Furniture of a period. The art of placement. Beautiful images. Wisdom speaking. Crowded galleries or empty rooms. Images that speak volumes. The Sabian Symbols as images. Minds that don’t shut down. Animations.

The Caution: Undue reliance on conservative values. Too much importance placed on appearance instead of substance. Snobbery caused by elevated feelings of importance. Art’s rarefied atmosphere that excludes others as unworthy or uneducated. Serious faces.

The Sabian Symbol of Venus is Virgo 7: A HAREM

This Symbol shows being in a group, or a “Harem”. A “Harem” is a symbol of women being, living and working together. Sharing with others, whether they are women or men, in an atmosphere of trust and belonging can bring rewards of all kinds to your life. There may be a feeling of being dominated or being part of a group where you compete for whatever small benefits may be available. Perhaps you are not taken seriously enough. There is a need to use your charm and appealing aspects of your nature to succeed in order to stand out from the crowd and claim a special place for yourself.

Keywords: Rising above jealousy, arrogance and passion. Waiting to be bestowed with the gift of being “chosen”. Women’s circles, sometimes closed. Women’s groups. Working together. Sharing feminine rituals and stories. Egyptian tales. One person calling the shots. Beauty salons. Seduction of the senses. Having one’s needs serviced. Women pampering each other. People who serve. Adoring the other. Sultans. Polygamy.

The Caution: Being just one of “the mob”. Not having a sense of personal importance. Mistrust of other women. Seeing people as competition. The spread of socially unacceptable diseases. Locked doors. Sexual infidelity. Needing the love of many. Eunuchs. Assuming the right to dominate others.

The Sabian Symbol of Mars is Gemini 12: A SLAVE-GIRL DEMANDS HER RIGHTS OF HER MISTRESS

This Symbol shows the need to be given respect and taken seriously. At times you’ll find that you can’t put up with the way you’re treated, the pressure builds up and suddenly, and probably from out of nowhere, a torrent of emotion comes out. If you’re being spoken badly to or treated with little respect, make a stand – don’t put up with it. It’s tiring to be treated like a ‘Slave’ or dutiful underling. Everyone should have equal rights. Spread your wings of freedom and seek to improve things by being frank and honest. You may win, but you can never truly lose if you act with integrity and honesty.

Keywords: Rising above conditioning and limitations. Standing up for one’s self. Demanding better treatment. Seeking recognition and self-respect. Being in charge of one’s life. Breaking away from oppression. Wanting a raise in pay or conditions. The need for freedom. Desiring property and rewards. Rising up from an “underdog” position or situation. The quest for identity.

The Caution: Feeling hard done by. Being demanding. Blaming others. Bucking authority. Demanding to be recognized or noticed. Feeling used and abused. Oppression and slavery. Jealousy and envy. Exploitation.

The Sabian Symbol of Jupiter is Aries 6: A SQUARE BRIGHTLY LIGHTED ON ONE SIDE

This Symbol often shows a positive nature that knows how to find ways out of situations by creating creative solutions. Don’t become too concerned with one side of issues in the material world, even if you feel boxed in with no way out. Don’t have all your eggs in one basket. You have the ability to simply look around, with a more objective eye and apply simple, active solutions – there are always ways out of dilemmas.

Keywords: Illuminated solutions that provide ways out of tight situations. Having to put up walls to protect or defend versus taking down the barriers. Putting all your eggs in one basket. Feeling fully contained. Walls and fences. Boxes. Understanding the borders of one’s activities. Looking for stabilization. Lighting up dark corners. Sunshine. Stepping outside the square or feeling there is no square. Moving out. Windows and doors. Rubik’s Cube.

The Caution: Surrendering, feeling trapped. Seeing only one side. Bouncing around, feeling like there’s no way out. Internal struggles that prevent seeing solutions. Not acknowledging or expressing true feelings. Desperately wanting to escape tight situations. Fear of ambush. Fear of attack from behind. Claustrophobia. Padded cells. Painting oneself into a corner.

Saturn is retrograde on Aquarius 21: A WOMAN DISAPPOINTED AND DISILLUSIONED, COURAGEOUSLY FACING THE FUTURE

This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be “Courageous” in the face of “Disappointment” or Disillusionment”. The “Woman” may have always thought things would be different but one day she wakes up to find that her dreams have not born fruit as yet. Still, there’s always hope and faith that things will turn around and get better. There can be feelings of wasting energy, and thoughts of failure, but being strong and vigilant against negative thoughts can turn situations around quickly. It always helps to look on disappointment as a teacher. Reconnect with what is available and possible, and, although it requires courage to get back on track, we always return with greater wisdom and understanding.

Keywords: Breaking through illusions. Facing stark reality with hope. Loneliness and depression overcome. Positive outlooks. Counting one’s blessings. Looking towards the future. Having to battle through relationship losses while maintaining a sense of self and purpose. Turning points reached. Having a belief in miracles. Choosing joy.

The Caution: Wallowing in failure. Not seeing the joy and beauty of one’s life. Accepting defeat. Feeling like all is lost. Bitterness. Walling one’s self off from others. Not trusting people. Finding nothing to be happy about. Feeling deserted and alone. Not letting go of the past. Injuries. Infertility. Incurable “dis-eases”. Unrequited love. The loss of the partner. Staring into space. Being a sad, old person.

This Symbol shows the rising of a new place, a new place to be, a new country or somewhere to be or to live. It implies that you can find that extra spark to create a brand new, original opportunity. This pictures the beginning of something that holds an enormous amount of potential for the future. There is much work to be done developing this into something fertile and productive. A whole new field of activity is coming to light. What you have done in the past has led you to this, but these new beginnings need to be met with a fresh sense of purpose and possibility.

Keywords: Enormous potentiality emerging. New trends and ways of being. Sudden eruptions of talent or fields of endeavor. The greenhouse effect. Global warming. Atlantis and other ancient underwater cities. Evolution. Patience. Developing slowly but surely. Emerging generations of people. New environments. Things feeling suddenly foreign. The birth of a nation. Migration. Land masses. Endeavouring to hold life together under the enormous pressure of the new.

The Caution: Continually seeking “new worlds” rather than finding a place in the existing one. No responsibility for the birth of the new. No respect for the old or established. Not shifting or evolving. Staying stuck in old realities.

Pluto is retrograde on Capricorn 27: A MOUNTAIN PILGRIMAGE

This Symbol shows the ability to, or the need for, being able to climb high, to rise to occasions, perform well, have a mission and, probably most importantly, to embark on spiritual journeys. Many people travel, but more often than not it implies a spiritual striving; an ascent in consciousness and the ability to transcend earthier, immediate matters. There is always the desire, or the need, to strive further, to learn more on the path to understanding and transcendence. You may desire to follow those that have gone before you to achieve a true sense of inner fulfillment. Work towards your own ‘mountain top’. The effort may be great, but so are the rewards.

Keywords: Ascent in consciousness. Spiritual, material, corporate or political striving. Having an entourage of people (or wanting one). Aloneness and separation. Setting off to somewhere else. Going on a mission. Finding one’s spiritual grounding. Getting back to the purer elements of life. Ambitions to get to the top. Wanting the highest office in the land.

The Caution: High moral stands with no depth of feeling. Feeling “high above” others. Feelings of being, or acting like, an ascended being. Haughtiness. Intellectual snobbery. People scrambling for the top. The “tall poppy” syndrome. Ambitions that know no bounds. People ridiculing others for their lesser position. Spiritual or corporate struggling for position.

Chiron (The Wounded Healer and The Stories We Tell Ourselves) is on Aries 16: BRIGHTLY CLAD BROWNIES DANCING IN THE WARM DYING LIGHT

The Brownies Symbol shows that help, given or received, is always available, especially if you believe it and accept assistance that’s offered. Sometimes, your intuitive powers are at a real high but your physical energy may not be. You may be tired and in need of help to get everything done and a lot may be demanded of you. Have faith that there’s often invisible assistance around you. You are always being guided and protected. Open your mind to possibilities and listen to the messages from within.

Complaining and whining instead of getting on with the task at hand. Wanting to be pampered and not face up to life’s storms. Considering appearance before all else. Superficiality. Insufficient or inappropriate clothing or apparel. Refusing to protect one’s self from cold or harm. be ok in the end. Showing determination, confidence and hope for the future will help you move forward and it will encourage those around you at the same time. The Moon’s south node is on Scorpio 15: CHILDREN PLAYING AROUND FIVE MOUNDS OF SAND

This Symbol shows “Children” at “Play”, enjoying them selves in a natural setting. Nowadays, the true art of play has largely been forgotten or lost. We have the apparent need for more and more toys or gadgets in order to bring joy. Much is learnt through letting go and allowing your self to experience the joy found naturally in the company of others. You may have the potential for greater things, but don’t sometimes understand what they are. Development takes time and latent talent eventually leads to greater things.
