July’s Supermoon in Capricorn occurs on July 13 in the US and July 14 in Australia. The Sabian Symbol for this full Moon speaks of issues to do with defeat or backing or stepping down. The Symbol is Capricorn 22: A GENERAL REVEALING NOBILITY OF CHARACTER BY ACCEPTING DEFEAT GRACEFULLY.
From Almanac.com – link below:
July’s full Buck Moon orbits closer to Earth than any other full Moon this year, making it the biggest and brightest supermoon of 2022! At its nearest point, the Buck Moon will be 222,089.3 miles (357,418 km) from Earth so it just edges out June’s Strawberry Moon by 200km.
While a supermoon is technically bigger and brighter than a regular full Moon, it only appears about 7% larger—which can be an imperceptible difference to the human eye, depending on other conditions. Nonetheless, it’s fun to know that the full Moon you’re looking at is the closest, biggest, and brightest of the year. Read more about this full Moon here.
This full Moon is a very powerful one but then the lunations have all been powerful for quite some time as these are very intense times. The Moon is applying (moving towards) a conjunction with Pluto, so there may be some very meaningful endings and new beginnings happening. Certainly, we may be feeling things very intensely.
The Sabian Symbols are implying that this is a strong time of surrender, possible defeat of some with new contenders emerging on the scene, people going AWOL, people wanting ‘awards’ or recognition, political and military moves that change situations in very dramatic ways, etc. etc. We see the UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigning after more than 50 of his MP’s (Members of Parliament) have quit (I haven’t seen any evidence, though, of Boris ‘accepting defeat gracefully’). We also have Sri Lanka’s President and Prime Minister resigning after massive protests and the storming of their homes by huge numbers of people. The Moon’s south node in Scorpio is very telling in this regard: Scorpio 21: OBEYING THEIR CONSCIENCE, A SOLDIER RESISTS ORDERS. Another way of reading this degree is A SOLDIER GOING AWOL, which I feel is more apt for what’s going on. I suspect that there will be a LOT more resignations or people going AWOL in the coming weeks.
Venus, once again, is asking for us to let go of (or get rid of) the people, places and things that are no longer working (or ‘vibing’) in our lives, and, to make a commitment to those that are – we may want to make some long-term commitments but we may first have to jettison some other things in order to make it work. Venus is likely to be bringing some mixed messages as it’s in a very tight square to Neptune (which could signify codependence and a fear of separating one’s self) and a very tight trine to Saturn. Some things will be left behind now, even as we might have been doing a ‘clearing out’ for months if not years by now.
Venus is in Gemini on a Symbol that speaks of ‘cutting things out’, cleaning up and clearing out. It’s Gemini 25: A GARDENER TRIMMING PALM TREES. As with trimming palm trees, we need to be careful to just cut off the extraneous and to leave the bits that are vital to continued growth. Venus is squaring Neptune on Pisces 26: A NEW MOON REVEALS THAT IT’S TIME FOR PEOPLE TO GO AHEAD WITH THEIR DIFFERENT PROJECTS. This can, and often does (but by no means always), point to people splitting away from each other in order to concentrate on what their current objectives are. Saturn is on Aquarius 25: A BUTTERFLY WITH THE RIGHT WING MORE PERFECTLY FORMED. With this placement, we are being asked to find a sense of balance and equanimity – to not be ‘all over the place’ and flapping around without a sense of one’s center. This can also point to people being at odds by being ‘left or right’ about certain issues.
Further, the Moon’s nodes are in a Mystic Rectangle formation with this full Moon. It’s been a long time since I studied about what constitutes a Mystic Rectangle and I suspect that traditionally one doesn’t include the Moon’s nodes in such a configuration (correct me if I’m wrong), but, I think that it fully deserves a mention as it is so tight. With the full Moon and the Moon’s nodes involved in this aspect, this can be a time when many things feel ‘karmic’ or fated, and, we may make some major life decisions under this influence (or, others may make them for us).
Stephanie Jean Clement Ph.D., author of Aspect Patterns: What They Reveal & How They Are Triggered says of this formation:
A Mystic Rectangle is an aspect that encompasses 2 oppositions, 2 trines and 2 sextiles, forming a rectangle. It is considered a “soft” aspect, even considering the oppositions. There is no focal planet in an M.R., unlike a Kite pattern. “Energy is cycled through the four signs and houses, alternating supportive conditions with opportunities, and adding a strong dose of awareness at each turn.”
So, we can see that, if we align with our objectives and give them their due consideration, there can be breakthroughs in understanding what our clear path ahead might be. This alignment with our true desires can bring about new realisations as the Sun will trine Neptune soon after this full Moon.
Further to a sense of liberation and the need for fulfillment is the Moon’s north node is moving towards a conjunction with Uranus on Taurus 19: A NEW CONTINENT IS RISING OUT OF THE OCEAN. New situations, new alternatives, new people, new places to be, grow and flourish are likely, especially if one lets go of the past.
Jupiter’s message is about seeing into things, especially those things that others may miss. Jupiter is on Aries 9: A SEER GAZES INTENTLY INTO A CRYSTAL BALL IN FRONT OF THEM – what are the messages coming through to you now?

The Sabian Symbol for July’s full Moon is Capricorn 22: A GENERAL REVEALING NOBILITY OF CHARACTER BY ACCEPTING DEFEAT GRACEFULLY – the following is my full interpretation from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom –
Commentary: ‘A General’ is seen ‘Accepting Defeat Gracefully’. He has to acknowledge a ‘Defeat’ of some kind and respond without losing face. Being a ‘General’, this person is obviously often a “winner”, respected for being in charge and in command. Now there’s the need for acknowledgment of a loss or a ‘Defeat’, or a backing down of some kind.
Oracle: There’s an old saying: Winning or losing doesn’t matter as much as how you play the game. Through the acceptance of ‘Defeat’, one can often discover important and valuable life lessons. Merely making excuses can lead to the same mistakes being made again and again, when there is no longer any point in pushing matters. At a time of “surrender”, it is the way the situation is handled that will be remembered the most. It is how ‘Gracefully’ you handle ‘Defeat’ that will be the measure of your inner worth both to yourself and others. Sometimes it is wise to concede when the “victory” or the “prize” is more valuable for your opponent than yourself. Admitting that one has lost or is prepared to give up can free you up to get on with your life and on to more rewarding adventures. Learning from ‘Defeat’ can bring strength of character. On a deeper level, ‘Defeat’ shows us that we are neither perfect, nor indestructible. Is the objective, battle or conflict really worth winning or pursuing? Going for revenge, greed or glory can often prove to end up badly as things can turn sour. Sometimes pushing your agenda can hurt your cause and it’s better to back off and hold your tongue. Struggling to have your point made or accepted may be self-defeating. This can happen in simple everyday situations such as conversation with others not understanding what you’re saying or doing. Realizing that you’re not going to change others can lead to being able to ‘Accept’ things in a better light.
Keywords: True inner worth. Being a “good loser”. Learning that every minor skirmish in life is not a major ‘Defeat’. Being prepared to start again. Sacrificing things for the benefit of others. Nobility of character. Letting go of the “charge” around anger. Surrendering. Knowing when to let go.
The Caution: Being a “bad loser”. Feeling everything is going to come out badly. Reliance on self-limitations. Seeing the negative in everything. Losing what’s been worked for. Making excuses to get out of tight situations. Betrayal and loss. Loss of support. Surrendering too early. Giving up on life.
The Sabian Symbol of the Karmic Condition of this full Moon is Capricorn 21: A RELAY RACE
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to work together with others in a cooperative venture, to know when to go and when to stop, when to take the baton and when to pass it on, and how to pace yourself so you can stay in the “Relay Race”. Each person has to contribute as best they can; some run fast, some have their own types of talents, some trip you up and cause you to falter. It is through communing with others and working together that you figure out who’s going to help win the race and who’s not. Sometimes, victory seems achievable, but you are likely to be a member of a team, with your own special task to perform. You may not be the one who crosses the finish line, but you will, eventually, share in the group effort. Just be watchful for when it’s your turn and when it isn’t.
Keywords: Shared endeavor. Knowing when to hand on responsibilities. Teamwork. Knowing when to finish. Encouragement and trust. Sharing and cooperation. Inheritances. Timing. Being competitive. Taking turns. Handing on responsibilities. Split second timing. Hand eye coordination. Having an on/off switch.
The Caution: Not letting go of control to another . Feeling defeated through feeling that you don’t have the necessary resources to win. Criticism and competitiveness. Acting only for one’s best interests. Competitiveness in inter-reactions and conversation. Butting in when others are talking. Expecting others to do all the work or carry responsibilities. Not sharing the glory or the rewards.
The Sabian Symbol of the Quest Degree is Capricorn 23: A SOLDIER RECEIVING TWO AWARDS FOR BRAVERY IN COMBAT
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to receive praise, awards or rewards when they are due. We often need to be acknowledged for the issues or causes we’ve fought for and the battles we’ve endured. Throughout life, you will probably find this to be an issue. True deeds of valor and bravery should be rewarded. Whether you are rewarded, respected or recognized, for the good things you’ve done or not, you’ll know that you’ve done them. You will find that your efforts will, at some time, be recognized and some appreciation, payment or compensation will be offered. You may also be the one who needs to recognize others’ achievements. Subsequent awards are often greater than the first because the dangers are well understood
Keywords: Desperate striving for recognition. Rewards for involvement in tough situations. Medals and trophies. Tributes, acknowledgments and benefits given or showered. Award ceremonies. Posthumous awards. Giving thanks. Compensation. Insurance and legal claims. Recompense for taking action.
The Caution: ‘Awards’ as Band-Aids to assuage the guilt produced in war. Expecting money or other rewards for doing anything that one doesn’t want to. The ills, social and otherwise, of combat fighting. Neurotic seeking of praise or acknowledgment. Rejection lines. Bribery.
The Sabian Symbol of the Sun at this full Moon is Cancer 22: A YOUNG WOMAN AWAITING A SAILBOAT
This Symbol shows someone who feels that there is a strong sense that the ideal will come if one just waits long enough. The waiting can lead to a pleasurable expectation, but it’s important not to become dependent on unreliable expectations. If you are constantly looking out, then you are not giving enough time to looking back or inward at the things you already possess or have ready access to. How long are you prepared to wait on the dock for your ship to come in? Has it perhaps already come in but you’ve not even noticed?
Keywords: Waiting for one’s ship to come in. Escapist fantasies that rob everyday life. Travel and the longing for escape. Living in the future vs. being in the here and now. Nervous anticipation. Leaving things to chance. Believing that things will come eventually. Opportunism. Rocking someone’s boat. Expectant waiting. Constant looking to the horizon. Boats. Tides. Creating a safe harbor.
The Caution: The bubble bursting. Waiting for Mr or Ms “perfect”. Ignoring what’s readily available. Longing for that which may never come. Missing opportunities. Always looking over one’s shoulder, seeking better things. Boredom with one’s life. Escapism. Possibilities that are never “good enough”. Pining for the unattainable. Not taking life on. Delusions of grandeur. Things always being better tomorrow.
The Sabian Symbol of Mercury is Cancer 18: A HEN IS SCRATCHING FOR HER CHICKS
This Symbol shows the essential need for nourishment that must be satisfied in order to proceed in life. The hen needs to be there for her chicks in order for them to grow and mature in safety. There are those around you who also depend on your ability to provide nourishment, both the literal food, and the symbolic, spiritual caring. Getting down to business and finding what nourishes will bring improvement and growth with small beginnings growing into fabulous and successful outcomes. This degree points to the mother hen in us all but we must be careful not to overprotect or fuss about our brood.
Keywords: Searching for sustenance. Being devoted to nurturing small beginnings. Concern for the essential, small details. Repetitive cycles of things that have to be done. Being the “breadwinner”. Doing one’s duty. Being loaded with responsibility. Children. Progeny. Feeding others. Catering. Seeding ideas. Latch-key children. Working long hours.
The Caution: Pointless searching where there is no nourishment. Fussing too much. Not letting people grow up. Neglecting to nourish those who need it. Acting like a mother hen. No life of one’s own. Becoming a martyr for others. Self-sacrifice. ‘Scratching’ for tiny rewards. Codependence. Tiring responsibilities. Scratching and picking. Paying the bills for others. Expecting to be looked after.
The Sabian Symbol of Venus is Gemini 25: A GARDENER TRIMMING LARGE PALM TREES
This Symbol shows a clearing away of the garbage, impediments or evidence of the past in order to give a fresh, clean image. Getting in with the gloves and the tools in order to clear up and clean out can bring order and neatness to your environment. However, sometimes we like to have past experiences, or wounds, on display, be they good or bad. This can bring admiration or, more likely, sympathy. But in reality, it’s best to cut out what’s not needed or ineffective in your life as it leaves a space for better and fresher things to come along. Make a special effort to make things look their best, even if this leaves them somewhat without protection from lower, more basic elements.
Keywords: Trimming off nonessentials to get to the bare reality. Caring for one’s possessions. Doing the work simply because it needs to be done. Getting rid of rubbish. Gardening and landscaping. Editing words, thoughts, emotions – superfluous things. Weeding out the unnecessary. Looking after cosmetic appearances. Tidying up. Tools. Trips to the dump.
The Caution: Doing the work because of routine, rather than need. Spending time doing things because of appearances. Neglecting the real issues at hand, which may include good nourishment, watering, and caring for physical realities. Doing menial jobs when one could be doing much bigger better ones. Not knowing when to stop. Leaving a mess.
The Sabian Symbol of Mars is Taurus 6: A BRIDGE BEING BUILT ACROSS A HIGH NARROW GORGE
This Symbol speaks of the ability, or the necessity, of being a bridge for yourself or others in order to link people, things, places or understanding. People who act like bridges provide a great service for others as they make it possible to overcome limitations and to move forward. To build a bridge takes time, tools, energy, help and perseverance. Once it is completed, the dangers that it spans are no longer of any real concern, or, at least, the people can rely on getting across to the other side as there’s a space that’s been made for crossing over. One of your jobs is to break down barriers between people.
Keywords: Overcoming distance and separation. Endeavoring to build continuity. Solving problems with creative solutions. Bridging emotional chasms. Spanning gaps. Breaking down barriers. Structures spanning distances between places or people. Conquering time and space barriers. Physical limitations overcome. Taking one step at a time. Avoiding looking down.
The Caution: Taking the long way round to avoid asking for help. Using shortcuts to cut across the real issue. Only seeing the risks, not the solutions to problems. The fear of establishing connections. The pervading sense that it could all fall through at any moment. Extreme sports.
Jupiter is stationary (and soon will go retrograde) on Aries 9: A SEER GAZES INTENTLY INTO A CRYSTAL BALL IN FRONT OF THEM
This Symbol shows the ability to focus, take insights in, analyze meaning and to draw conclusions from available information. The whole picture is there in front of you, but you often need to interpret its meaning. With a little concentrated effort, you will be able to see things very clearly. There is the ability to observe things that others may miss. Try really tuning in and looking within for answers as you have the ability to see them with just a bit of focus.
Keywords: Flashes of inspiration. Tuning in and looking within for answers. Creative visualizations. Aura readings. Cutting through irrelevant messages. Looking carefully at structure. Seeking perfection. Clairvoyance. Illumination and deep insights. Looking ahead to see the signs.
The Caution: Confused by literal meanings. Not seeing the symbolic message. Always looking this way and that, not at the center. Getting lost in the big picture. Daydreaming and ignoring what’s really going on. Obsessing over what may happen. Needing to know what’s coming up. Being impatient.
Saturn is retrograde on Aquarius 25: A BUTTERFLY WITH THE RIGHT WING MORE PERFECTLY FORMED
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to find balance, to find your center so that you might be more effective, stable and organized in your life. As the “Butterfly” has a “Right Wing More Perfectly Formed”, you may be applying your rational logical mind out of balance to your intuitive and creative wisdom, or, vice versa. It is often harder to understand your intuitive messages, but reliance on logic can limit your possibilities. However, not applying logic can lead to big problems as well. There can be physical handicaps which may prevent one from truly doing what one wants, or strange imbalances on the spiritual level.
Keywords: Rising above life’s distortions. A need to bring some type of balance to situations. Injuries or problems with hands or arms. One side being more ‘Perfect’ than the other. The ‘Right’ being better than the left. Mutations. Handicaps. Challenges. Disabilities. Impediments.
The Caution: Imbalances and physical distortions. Asymmetry. An imbalance of functions leading to involuntary flapping around. Distortions of reactions or of the truth. Lopsidedness. Hindrances. Being at a disadvantage. Feeling incapacitated.
Uranus is on Taurus 19: A NEW CONTINENT IS RISING OUT OF THE OCEAN
This Symbol shows the rising of a new place, a new place to be, a new country or somewhere to be or to live. It implies that you can find that extra spark to create a brand new, original opportunity. This pictures the beginning of something that holds an enormous amount of potential for the future. There is much work to be done developing this into something fertile and productive. A whole new field of activity is coming to light. What you have done in the past has led you to this, but these new beginnings need to be met with a fresh sense of purpose and possibility.
Keywords: Enormous potentiality emerging. New trends and ways of being. Sudden eruptions of talent or fields of endeavor. The greenhouse effect. Global warming. Atlantis and other ancient underwater cities. Evolution. Patience. Developing slowly but surely. Emerging generations of people. New environments. Things feeling suddenly foreign. The birth of a nation. Migration. Land masses. Endeavouring to hold life together under the enormous pressure of the new.
The Caution: Continually seeking “new worlds” rather than finding a place in the existing one. No responsibility for the birth of the new. No respect for the old or established. Not shifting or evolving. Staying stuck in old realities.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary retrograde Neptune is Pisces 26: A NEW MOON REVEALS THAT IT’S TIME FOR PEOPLE TO GO AHEAD WITH THEIR DIFFERENT PROJECTS
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to see, or to accept, when it’s time for people to move on or to part from each other. They need to “Go Ahead With Their Different Projects” – their focus has changed and, quite possibly, parted ways. There’s a picture here of new beginnings. People will have their own response to situations – everyone will not react in the same way. At times in your life, you’ll have this “New Moon”, and decide to go your separate ways. It can be a good idea to direct some energy into your desires or projects at the time of the new moon. Light a candle and state your intentions with honesty and love.
Keywords: Diversifying. Applying talents in a different direction. People splitting up and splitting off. New opportunities and potentials. The beginning of a new age. Letting go of the old and outworn. Separations. Embracing one’s future without the need for others. Coming to a fork in the road. Divorces. New jobs, directions and destinies. The dawning of a new era.
The Caution: Not giving, or receiving emotional support. Feeling split off and alone, even when one is with others. The fear and loathing of possible separation. Overthrowing the old too quickly. Changing direction unexpectedly. The fear of old age. Relationships that fail again and again.
The Sabian Symbol of retrograde Pluto is Capricorn 28: A LARGE AVIARY
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to take in a lot of information, to be social, yet have some time alone. The “Large Aviary” has a lot of citizens, all buzzing around, all interacting and full of life. There is a lot of chattering and flitting from one thing to another going on and while there is no harm being done, perhaps, sometimes, there’s nothing much really being achieved. Is this because there is a level of mental confusion happening? At the least there is likely to be a feeling of brotherhood and not being alone. Finding time alone can be difficult.
Keywords: Clairaudience. Hearing many inner voices. Having a huge entourage or crowd. Tinnitus. Enormous activity. Many people living their individual lives in one space. Blocks of flats and units. Housing estates. Birds, aviaries, bird seed. Perches. People chattering. Girls sharing. Lots to say. Little true content. Confined living spaces. Communicating solely with those in the immediate environment. Living in a world of one’s own with no thought of the realities of how other people live. Having to get along with others. Caged birds. Twitter.
The Caution: Mental confusion bringing a lack of discernment. Too much chatter with not much being achieved. False sense of freedom. Chattering more than doing. Finding it hard to find peace, harmony or privacy. Lonely existences. Abandoned living spaces. Dependence on external sources of nourishment or other provisions.
The Sabian Symbol of Chiron is Aries 17: TWO PRIM SPINSTERS SITTING TOGETHER IN SILENCE
This Symbol shows that quiet withdrawal might be just what you need, but it is easy to become isolated in conservative, albeit moral, ideas. You may find that there is only a select, restricted group with whom you wish to associate. Be wary that this false sense of security doesn’t isolate you from change and growth. Unresolved issues can lead to stunted emotional responses. Look for opportunities to open up to new possibilities.
Keywords: The need to loosen up emotional blockages. The struggle to hold onto one’s original identity. Compromise because of social expectations. Meditations that communicate. Exclusive relationships. Relationships that have a quiet “knowing”. Dignified silence. Inner withdrawal. Communicating through body language.
The Caution: Emotional isolation. Refusing to accept relationship. Pretending to be someone that one is not. Disapproval of younger, more vital energies. Being fussy and judgmental. Chattering that is not conducive to growth or true relating. Gossip. Difficulty in communicating. Being shutoff, or shutdown. The loss of joy and spontaneity.
The Sabian Symbol of the Moon’s north node is Taurus 21: A MOVING FINGER POINTS TO SIGNIFICANT PASSAGES IN A BOOK
This Symbol points to going by the book and taking things as rules to be lived or taking things literally. You may feel as though you either feel that you know all about life, or that you need to learn all about it. You could feel as though you have read the book on life. There are, however, finer details that you may have missed and you may need to look again. There is a clear indication that you need look for something outside of yourself for clues on how to live or how to be. However, be discriminating about what is really significant. Find the essential details of a situation and disregard the rest.
Keywords: Finding the essential details of a situation and disregarding the rest. The cursor on the computer screen. Reading and writing books. Keeping records. Instruction manuals. Lawyers and the law. Editing. Reviewing. Reference books. Reading the Oracle. Memories. Quoting scripture. Testimony. Rules.
The Caution: Doing things because they need to be done and only going by the rules of the book. Automated responses. Religious fundamentalism. Only doing those things that are officially sanctioned. Not observing the entire picture. Keeping tallies. Flaunting the rules.
The Sabian Symbol of the Moon’s south node is Scorpio 21: OBEYING THEIR CONSCIENCE, A SOLDIER RESISTS ORDERS
This Symbol shows someone who’s “Conscience” stops them from following a certain course of action, staying with a project or relationship when they’d rather leave, or, someone not prepared to compromise their values to do something that society says they must do. You may find yourself in situations where what you are expected to do is against your inner values, conscience or how you see your future unfolding. You may at times in your life have to make the difficult choice between allegiance to duty and your own inner truth. True freedom can only be found when one faces situations with a sense of integrity and prepared to face the consequences, be they positive or negative.
Keywords: Personal morality. Doing what one’s conscience dictates. Going against the status quo. Doing the unexpected. Going by the promptings of the inner voice. The consequences of having a conscience. Not coming home. People clinging to each other. Love that restrains.
The Caution: Displaying cowardice or a lack of courage to act. Not doing what one is expected to do. ‘Going over the top’ in a wild and crazy way. Going AWOL. Being the one who lets everyone down. Court Martials. Antisocial behavior. Anarchists. Being “uncommitted” or “unavailable”. Choosing play instead of duty. Goofing off.
