October’s new Moon is a partial solar eclipse. There’s some interesting eclipse information in the links listed below. This from Wikipedia: –
The solar eclipse of October 25, 2022 is a partial solar eclipse that will be visible from Europe, the Urals and Western Siberia, Central Asia, Western Asia, South Asia and from the north-east of Africa. The maximal phase of the partial eclipse will be recorded on West Siberian Plain in Russia near Nizhnevartovsk. (From Wikipedia)
On this site, EarthSky, the list of cities that the eclipse is visible from, there’s no mention of Russian cities (or, indeed Russia at all) nor is there any mention of Ukraine. (Check out that EarthSky link to see that the maximal phase occurs over Russia) . On this site, Time and Date, the Russian cities, including Moscow, are listed as is Kyiv, Ukraine. I wondered if Putin’s birthchart is being affected by this eclipse and I looked it up on astro.com – I have long known that his data is DD (dirty data and not at all reliable), but, even on a symbolic level, it can be interesting to check it out – this eclipse falls right on the ascendant given on the that site. But I somewhat digress. Oh, yes, also, I have also long remembered the Sun of the chart of the United Nations. The U.N. has a Sun degree of 1.07 Scorpio = SCORPIO 2: A BROKEN BOTTLE AND SPILLED PERFUME. With the eclipse smack on their Sun, I imagine that we’ll be hearing more about the U.N. soon. Further, Neptune is currently squaring the U.N.’s Moon in Gemini.
This partial solar eclipse in Scorpio is on Scorpio 3: NEIGHBOURS COMING TOGETHER IN A HOUSE RAISING PARTY this is also the Sabian Symbol of Venus. As this is an eclipse, it can signify big changes in those we have (or want to have) around us. Many over the last few years have been having enormous relationship challenges with friends, family, acquaintances, etc, and, new allegiances and relationships have been formed. We hear this continually: People disagreeing, battling each other, feeling betrayed, pushed, abandoned, etc. Obviously this has not been easy and this eclipse is likely to bring many of these issues to the forefront.
Inherent in the Symbol is the desire, need, imperative, etc, of coming together with people that have ‘something to bring to the table’. People’s love, abilities, talents, tools, whatever they can contribute to the good of the whole is what’s called for. Of course, with this being an eclipse (the effects of which can be felt for months, indeed years if major events happen to us during this time), we may be forced to take a good look at who we have in our lives and how we, too, can contribute more fully and lovingly to the whole.
I’ve noticed that many are saying how great it is to have Venus exactly conjunct this partial solar eclipse. Although yes, it can be wonderful having Venus on side, it doesn’t do so well in Scorpio (I have my Venus there, just for the record!), and, I see a lot of people giving far too much credit/praise/good interpretations, etc, to Venus. Yes, Venus astrologically has some wonderful attributes but it also rules over “I want that”, “I have to have that”, and, “if you don’t have my values, get out of my face” – it can be overtly demanding and vengeful. Many often see Mars as being the vengeful one when really, left up to it’s own devices, Mars will run around with a club or a spear (or a bazooka or nuclear weapon), wondering what to do. It is Venus that gives Mars its directions (go here, do this, be this, etc). Of course, every single person, male or female, on the planet has both a Venus and a Mars.
I mention this because Mars is actually in such high focus at this new Moon (partial solar eclipse). Mars is stationary at the moment and will, smack on Halloween, begin its retrograde journey through Gemini which lasts until 12 January 2023, noting that it doesn’t leave Gemini until 25th March 2023. It goes stationary retrograde on Gemini 26: WINTER FROST IN THE WOODS (energy prices with winter coming, food shortages, etc).
For the last couple of weeks and still yet for another couple more, Mars has been closely squaring Neptune – a sure sign of tiredness, disillusionment, deception, lies, misleading thoughts, ideas, actions, whatever – and, we are starting to see a lot of unravelling of those deceptions coming about. Unfortunately, many are rather ‘hypnotised’ (a good description of Mars in Gemini squaring Neptune in Pisces – some may never see much through the haze of what’s obviously happening). Food shortages being one of them (on Facebook, in March or April of 2020, I predicted food shortages if the ‘pandemic’ and lockdowns, etc, last very long and was laughed at and ridiculed – even by friends – glad to be off FB, to be honest, what a relief).
Amongst other things slowly but surely coming to light are the deceptions around the virus and the vaccines. It’s been made known now by a Pfizer executive that there was NO research into the vaccine stopping the transmissibility (heck of a word that) of the virus. About this, we were lied to continually and outrageously. More will, no doubt, come to light. There’s a lot more that I have to say about all of that, but, it’s, well, it’s tiring – the entire thing is tiring.
We can feel somewhat helpless when Mars and Neptune are not getting along. Adding to this is the quincunx (150 degree aspect) from Mars to Pluto. This makes it even harder to see what’s going on (to see around those corners), what’s coming up, what the real agenda is, where we should head to from here. The sense of frustration (and, for many, anger) can be enormous with this.
Adding to the frustrations (and tiredness) are the number of quincunxes in this eclipse period. The new Moon is quincunx Jupiter in Aries, Chiron is quincunx the Moon’s north node and Mercury is quincunx Neptune along with Mars quincunx Pluto. I see the quincunx as The Itch That Is Difficult To Scratch – we know that we need to do something (anything, really!), but, we can’t quite see it or achieve it or find the solutions. Sometimes, often actually, the best thing to do is to wait and let things work themselves out, or, just wait for the right moment when answers (or solutions_) are more clearly defined. We like being able to see things in a ‘straight line’.
What is truly enormous about this journey of Mars retrograde is that Mars is retracing almost *exactly* the steps taken by retrograde Venus in May and June of 2020 – during which a *huge* number of protests erupted all over the world, but particularly the George Floyd protests in the U.S. There are some five, perhaps six, ‘going on strike’ and ‘protesting’ and ‘hell no, we’re not doing that’ Sabian Symbols in Gemini and Mars is traversing most of them (Venus went over all of them in 2020). You can read what I wrote about that here (please excuse the lack of graphics – I with the switch from my old to this new website the newsletters lost almost all of the graphics (sigh, I lost the ability or energy to either protest it or fix it myself).
So, Mars has been traversing the rather difficult ‘protesting’ degrees in Gemini since the end of August. These are the Sabian Symbols that Mars will transit for a total of three times over the next several months:
Gemini 5: A RADICAL MAGAZINE OR PUBLICATION, ASKING FOR ACTION, DISPLAYS A SENSATIONAL FRONT PAGE. (Mars transited this degree at the end of August but is not part of this retrograde of Mars).
Gemini 8: AROUSED STRIKERS SURROUND A FACTORY
Gemini 12: A BLACK SLAVE–GIRL DEMANDS HER RIGHTS OF HER MISTRESS
Gemini 16: A WOMAN ACTIVIST ON A PLATFORM GIVING AN EMOTIONAL SPEECH DRAMATIZING HER CAUSE
Gemini 21: A TUMULTUOUS LABOR DEMONSTRATION.
I heard last week that there are some 1,200 protests and demonstrations going on in the world. Jeez. To reiterate – Mars will transit the Symbols listed above three times in total in this retrograde period.
We are still experiencing the Saturn/Uranus square, and, we have a ways to go yet with that, but, as we are nearing the end of this square, we may be sensing that we’ve let go of a lot, thrown things out, worked out our priorities, etc. I see that many are waiting for ‘the other shoe to drop’ with things falling more into place and making more sense.

The Sabian Symbol for the partial Scorpio solar eclipse which is exactly conjunct Venus is Scorpio 3: NEIGHBORS HELP IN A HOUSE RAISING PARTY IN A SMALL VILLAGE – the following is my full interpretation from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom: –
Commentary: ‘Neighbors Help in a House Raising Party in a Small Village’. They come together to help each other out and to get to know each other better. By acting as a community, rather than as separate individuals, small, large, or even very difficult projects can be undertaken and completed more quickly and efficiently. People bring their individual talents and expertise with them. The sharing of these experiences will build community values and friendships. However, there needs to be a careful watch on how some people contribute as unskilled labor can end up costing both time and money.
Oracle: In this situation, great things can be achieved if everyone works together. Any efforts directed towards giving value and stability to one’s community will be rewarded in some measure. Friends and those close to you can help you in any endeavor, big or small. Having faith in those around you can help bring a sense of belonging and relationship to your life. Sometimes a home or a community needs to be built or renovated in some way, with people coming together and everyone putting in their share of dedication, commitment and hard labor. There can be a feeling that there is so much to do on the domestic scene that other considerations have to be put on hold for the time being. People must all have a higher sense of purpose, otherwise some may work at cross-purposes, undermining people or even entire families. Is there a need for people to assist you because someone in your life has left behind their responsibilities? If you are in need of ‘Help’, making a wish for assistance to arrive may bring a bigger response than you expected!
Keywords: Cooperation. Real estate deals. Community concerns. Buying or building houses. Renting apartments and homes. Needing help to find shelter. The agreement of neighbors to maintain community harmony. “Raising the roof”. Parties. Dormitories. Having to consider the needs of lots of people. Match making. Community halls. Understanding what it takes to make a village of people. Communal governance or being blocked by rules, laws and regulations of bureaucracy. Homeless shelters. Tools. Building expertise. Helping hands.
The Caution: Taking advantage of generosity. Refusing to cooperate in group endeavors. Building bigger and better things. Bickering over who does what. Not trusting people’s input. Having to share space with those you don’t trust or like.
The Karmic Condition (the previous degree) of this partial solar eclipse is Scorpio 2: A BROKEN BOTTLE AND SPILLED PERFUME
This Symbol implies something fragile and beautiful that may somehow be shattered or lost. It can also show the need to let things go and not hang onto them to the point of shattering and loss. There will be times of building up or concentrating your emotions until they are suddenly let out. There may be little that you can do about the initial outburst, but you need to be careful of what you say and do as you sort things out. Sometimes things need to be “Broken” so that their contents can be released and fully appreciated or revealed. The smell of “Perfume” can release memories of love, longing and desire, but also anger, hurt or jealousy.
Keywords: The memory of things lingering on. Scents or smells that evoke reactions. The “cat let out of the bag”. The “genie let out of the bottle”. Dizziness. Passing out. Smelling salts. Liquids spilled. Anything broken or shattered. Accidents. The loss of something precious. Alcoholism. Biological and chemical weapons of all kinds. Being emotionally charged. Cracking up to crack open. The sound of breaking glass.
The Caution: Things looking good on the outside, but the contents disappointing. Spilling one’s guts. Things erupting suddenly. Injured or broken necks or backs. Envy and jealousy. Broken bones. Smelly remnants.
The Quest Degree (the following degree) of this partial solar eclipse is Scorpio 4: A YOUTH HOLDING A LIGHTED CANDLE IN A DEVOTIONAL RITUAL GAINS A SENSE OF THE GREAT ‘OTHER WORLD’
This Symbol shows a sense of faith and wide-eyed innocence that draws spiritual experiences in, sometimes in rather unexpected ways. There’s a feeling of reverence here, along with ritual and ceremony. The “Candle” depicts the light that illuminates one’s consciousness and “A Youth” implies a young person, perhaps doing an apprenticeship or an aspirant on the path to spiritual self-actualization. The “Youth” gets a glimpse into spirit, into the hidden side of life, perhaps having clairvoyant visions or getting goose-bumps from moments when the veil between the two worlds seems very thin. Rituals of all shapes and sizes and simple rays of hope give you spiritual strength. Light a candle and affirm your intentions.
Keywords: Simple ideals. Ceremonies that are pure and uncomplicated. Affirming intention to the path. The light of consciousness. Shining a light that brings an understanding of things on the spiritual level. Spiritualist meetings. Feeling overwhelmed. Enlightenment. Wide-eyed innocence and wonder. Sexual experiments leading to transcendence. Potency. Devotion to ritual. Expansion of psychic talents.
The Caution: Naive reliance on insincere promises. Feeling like someone is too young to be of any worth. False feelings of reverence and enlightenment. Placebos. Hallucinogens.
The Sabian Symbol of Mercury is Libra 23: CHANTICLEER’S VOICE HERALDS THE RISING SUN WITH ENTHUSIASTIC TONES
This Symbol shows enthusiasm, joy, confidence and the desire to greet each day with the anticipation of new opportunities. It is true that each day begins the same – the Sun comes up, the world is still spinning – but what the day will bring always holds a bit of a mystery. This is a joyous Symbol of greeting and heralding the day, but there can be a blurring of the concept of whether the “Chanticleer” (the rooster), causes or simply heralds the new day. You may feel like you’re blessed with the voice to be able to speak new developments, to make announcements and wake everyone up to the realities of life. As long as you don’t make too much of a noise while doing it you’ll rouse people around you to action.
Keywords: Anticipating new opportunities. Waking early. Being a morning person. Having a clear, beautiful or loud voice. Speaking up when it’s needed. Heralding the new age. Seeing things ahead of their time. Being attuned to cosmic forces. Change or renewal. Always being on the go. Being eternally vigilant. Alarms that spur to action.
The Caution: Overstating ones role, talents or abilities. Needing a wake-up call (literally and symbolically). Crowing about things—disturbing others. Being noisy when others are trying to sleep. Being loud and irritating. Narcissism.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary Mars is Gemini 26: WINTER FROST IN THE WOODS
This Symbol shows things in a dormant stage or hibernation stage. There has been a time of fruitfulness which has now passed; this is rather a time or situation of withdrawal and inner growth. However, once again, a time of new developments and fresh growth is surely coming, but, there is no point trying to force growth as it may not be possible now. It is wiser to prepare for more vibrant and expansive times by using times of dormant activity to ensure that you get rest and recharge your batteries. Whilst not much seems to be going on, nature is ensuring that energy is being used to reinforce the roots of things, ready for the coming period of growth and abundance.
Keywords: The calm before the dawn. The silence inherent in cold, barren times. Barren and cold feelings. Refrigeration and freezing. Serenity. Surviving cold conditions. Feeling like one’s on the outside. Being lost in the wilderness. Beautiful surrounds. Lack of fertility. Things freezing up. The need to rug up. Hibernation. Icicles. Battling through hard times. Depression. Growth that is halted or held up. The inevitability of change.
The Caution: Denying the natural flow of the season by trying to rush things. Feeling “frozen out”, lost and neglected. Feeling dead lost and buried. Chills in the air. Keeping one’s feelings on ice. Immobility. Not knowing where to find warmth or nourishment. Losing faith. Infertility. Frigid responses. Stagnation. Loss of love and light. Stunted growth.
The Sabian Symbol of retrograde Jupiter is Aries 1: A WOMAN HAS RISEN OUT OF THE OCEAN, A SEAL IS EMBRACING HER
This degree is the beginning of the zodiac where the old gets left behind. A new understanding and awareness is coming to light. Something new is emerging and it needs to be welcomed and nurtured. This is the beginning of a whole new impulse – creative and responsive. There’s an emergence of a whole new potentiality. Resist looking back to outgrown and unsatisfactory conditions in your life as they can pull you back to old and unrewarding ways of being. This is also about finding your voice and your feet. It’s about conscious individuation and the need to forge into new worlds with a new way of being.
Keywords: Cycles starting. Beginnings. Emergence into concrete manifestation. Embracing and honoring the shadow. Recognizing our animal side. Tropical islands or lands. Rocky shores. Seals. Oceans and water. Shedding skins. Transmutation. The Selkie myth. Grounding one’s energy. Stepping between the sea and the shore. Androgyny. Love and its embrace. Finding your feet and your voice. Mermaids.
The Caution: Using masculine power to overshadow emotions. Refusing to move on. Feeling held back by fears and old life patterns. Falling back into previous, unsatisfactory conditions. Dragging others backwards. Immobilizing fear of the unknown. Being just another “fish in the sea”.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary Saturn is Aquarius 18: A FOREST FIRE FINALLY QUENCHED
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to rise to the occasion and quench the flames of “Fires” that can leap out of their boundaries and take control of your life. Enthusiastic drive and zeal can sometimes set off an almost uncontrollable and destructive chain of events. You may find that you sometimes get caught up in such situations, emotional or physical. There is likely to be no choice but to fight for control and minimize the destruction. Any efforts will be, at last, successful. You are likely to come out of some life-threatening experiences with a new sense of commitment or a better understanding of the consequences of your actions.
Keywords: Exuberant feelings that come after struggles. Coming out of an experience with a new sense of commitment or a new understanding of consequences. Getting a bee in your bonnet. Spot fires. Jubilation and release after hard labor. Fighting for control. Sparks getting out of control. Events taking off in all directions. Sexual energy and the containment of it. Ideas that get whipped up and take off at high speed. The ferocity of nature. The calm after the storm. Smouldering passions. Smoke. One-eyed focus.
The Caution: Giving up too soon and losing it all. Self-defeating delight in drama. Looking back on a situation that got out of control and produced a lot of rubble. Destructive passions. Losing one’s spark. Running out of fuel. Feeling burnt out. Exhaustion and despair at what’s lost.
The Sabian Symbol of retrograde Uranus is Taurus 18: A WOMAN AIRING AN OLD BAG THROUGH A SUNNY WINDOW TO GIVE IT AIR AND SUNSHINE
This Symbol speaks of clearing up clutter, washing and purifying and bringing air and light to situations. It often symbolizes psychotherapy and other self help disciplines that cleanse and purify the mind, emotions and soul. There is often the need to clean out your cupboards, along with your old habits and routines. By keeping everything in your inner self, you can cause a clutter that is restricting. Bring these things to the outer world and see if they are still relevant in the light of day, discarding those that don’t measure up.
Keywords: Psychoanalysis. Past life regressions or memories. Doing domestic chores with a feeling of purpose. Work shopping ideas. Bringing light and freshness to old feelings. Renewal. Throwing out the old or outlived. Cleaning out rooms. Renovations. Letting the sunshine in.
The Caution: Expecting others to take responsibility for cleaning up and airing out. Hanging on to outworn things and memories. Airing one’s ‘dirty laundry’ in public. Rehashing old situations. Going over the same ground over and over. Bringing up issues when it’s inappropriate. Depressed attitudes.
The Sabian Symbol of retrograde Neptune is Pisces 24: THE TINY ISLAND SEEMS LOST IN THE BROAD OCEAN, BUT ITS HAPPY INHABITANTS HAVE CREATED A GREAT WORLD ALL THEIR OWN
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to live with others, to share the same space, to create a happy life. The people pictured in this Symbol all live together and have “Created a Great World All Their Own”. No matter how well people get along, people still have to compromise and give and take in order to sustain good community relations. Drawn together by similar hopes and ambitions it is ironic that sometimes compromise is the only way to successful coexistence. Making the most of what is available, even though it is restrictive, will help to dispel any feelings of being cutoff and isolated. Who are you comfortable sharing your space with? Who would you have sharing your desert island?
Keywords: Adaptability and cohabitation. People jammed in. Seeking others of like mind. Knowing a lot of people. Always considering others. Noise and light pollution. Feeling like new blood is needed in order to grow and flourish. Coexistence. Apartments. Living together. People moving in.
The Caution: Cutting off from those around. Not having enough privacy—or space. Things being kept too “all in the family”. No chance to be alone. Pollution and garbage. Crowding out people. Loneliness even amongst many. Being deserted and lost.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary direct Pluto is Capricorn 27: A MOUNTAIN PILGRIMAGE
This Symbol shows the ability to, or the need for, being able to climb high, to rise to occasions, perform well, have a mission and, probably most importantly, to embark on spiritual journeys. Many people travel, but more often than not it implies a spiritual striving; an ascent in consciousness and the ability to transcend earthier, immediate matters. There is always the desire, or the need, to strive further, to learn more on the path to understanding and transcendence. You may desire to follow those that have gone before you to achieve a true sense of inner fulfillment. Work towards your own ‘mountain top’. The effort may be great, but so are the rewards.
Keywords: Ascent in consciousness. Spiritual, material, corporate or political striving. Having an entourage of people (or wanting one). Aloneness and separation. Setting off to somewhere else. Going on a mission. Finding one’s spiritual grounding. Getting back to the purer elements of life. Ambitions to get to the top. Wanting the highest office in the land.
The Caution: High moral stands with no depth of feeling. Feeling “high above” others. Feelings of being, or acting like, an ascended being. Haughtiness. Intellectual snobbery. People scrambling for the top. The “tall poppy” syndrome. Ambitions that know no bounds. People ridiculing others for their lesser position. Spiritual or corporate struggling for position.
The Sabian Symbol of retrograde Chiron is Aries 14: A SERPENT COILING NEAR A MAN AND A WOMAN
This Symbol shows that there is likely to be tense emotion, particularly around relationships. There can be a sense of tension, fear and passion. Situations may arise where something or someone can try to come between you and a beloved. This can be a person, an event or an emotion. You may need to learn to let go and find new depths to your ways of relating and relationships. Are you looking for your Garden of Eden?
Keywords: Enticement. Allurement. Revealing archetypal knowledge that may not be “socially acceptable”. Temptations. The Adam and Eve story. Jealousy. Sexual instincts. Life and death issues. Relating based on control. Kundalini energy. Realizing polarity. Individuation. Eating the Apple. The “knowledge of good and evil”. Having one’s eyes opened. Marking one’s territory.
The Caution: Feeling guilty. Being afraid to express one’s feelings. Basic instincts and sexual energy. The fear of knowledge, secret or otherwise. Using sexuality as a control device. Disgust or distrust of the body. Sexually transmitted diseases. Hiding nudity or sexuality. Being thrown out of paradise.
The Sabian Symbol of the Moon’s north node is Taurus 14: ON THE BEACH, CHILDREN PLAY WHILE SHELLFISH GROPE AT THE EDGE OF THE WATER
This Symbol implies the possibility, or the need, for people and all living things getting along together in peace and harmony. They are playing and enjoying and living at the edge of the water on the beach, doing their own thing and getting on with their own lives. People with this Symbol often just want to get on with their own activities and enjoy life and nature. This is a lovely image of a live-and-let-live attitude. Try taking some time out by the water and interact with others there. With the coming and going of the tide, people do what comes most naturally to them. Just be careful that you don’t get out of your depth trying to be like others.
Keywords: Being self-sufficient. Looking after one’s own affairs. A sense of at-one-ment with all forms of life. Having a live and let live attitude. Peripheral vision. Returning to the source. Feeling safe in a natural environment. Playing alongside nature. Building sand castles. Playing in pools or baths. Buckets and spades. Sun protection. Interacting without really interacting. Swimming. Sand, wind and sea. Rockpools. Shellfish, oysters, shrimp.
The Caution: Meddling in people’s lives. Restriction of play. Being distracted. Sandcastles that will eventually get washed away. Not knowing how to loosen up with others and relax into a natural environment. Fussing that people aren’t doing the ‘right thing’. Sunburn and exposure to weather. Voyeurism.
The Sabian Symbol of the Moon’s south node is Scorpio 14: TELEPHONE LINESMEN AT WORK INSTALLING NEW CONNECTIONS
This Symbol implies the ability, or the need, to be able to connect in with people or situations, sometimes with tools and equipment. This degree shows networking, along with the desire to talk to people or bring them together and improve communications. If people have been experiencing failure in fully expressing their thoughts, ideas or emotions, there is nothing to be achieved by just worrying about it; but rather do something to repair the lines of communication. Doing this can cause surprising new connections with people linking up, even from surprisingly isolated places. Sometimes expert advice and help must be called in; this degree often shows people who can do it.
Keywords: Acupuncture and other therapies that work on the body’s meridians. The nervous system. The Internet. Forming new lines of communication. New connections taking place. Linking people up. Making sure that messages get through. Mobile phones, faxes, email. Networks and networking. Switchboards. Satellites. Wires. The ability to reach far distances. Getting on other people’s wavelengths. Contacts. Hooking up with the system. UFO experiences. Mobile phones.
The Caution: Failing to see the necessity for repairs to personal communication. Becoming involved in other people’s lives. Gossip. News, thoughts and ideas spreading rapidly and getting out of control. Constant chatting. Being fickle. Sabotage. Engaged signals. Internet buffering and outages.
