Here we are, in early November, and we are about to experience the third of three conjunctions of Venus and Mars.

The following are the dates and degrees of these tie-ups between Venus and Mars:

February 22:  1° 47’ Aries
September 1:  14° 55’ Leo
November 3:  24° 11’ Virgo

We are now on the threshold of learning more and more about how we relate with ourselves and to others, and some of these lessons can not only change our relationships, but, we are able to ramp up our sense of self worth by seeing how we may be stuck in situations or giving our power away to others.

If you read through the following Sabian Symbol interpretations, no doubt you will see these themes for this Venus/Mars conjunction –

It is time to assess what is and what isn’t worthy of your time, energy, attention or love. Anything that is out-moded, out-lived, useless to keep trying, etc, needs to be let go of now so you can move forward into a new reality without the past dragging you backwards. Assessing co-dependent and/or narcissistic behaviours in yourself or in those around you can lead to realisations where there’s an imbalance of feelings and attachments. Like Mary and her white lamb, you may need to realise where you hang on in a co-dependant way. Has the horse bolted? Are you waiting for him/her/them, or, a situation, to come back?

Anytime, but especially now (because when but now is a better time), seeing how you put yourself second best can be very revealing and can lead you to reassessing your sense of self-worth. This can lead to you being ‘The Priest’ instead of ‘The Boy With The Censor’ all the time. Playing second fiddle is fine some of the time, and it is natural that we do that occasionally, but all of the time?

Seeing how you, or others, play co-dependant behaviours can free the energies up so relationships become more authentic, more true and rewarding. Lowering the flag on those relationships, situations or emotions that don’t contribute to your sense of well-being can lead to more self confidence and greater rewards as hanging on to what is old or outworn will not work as you head into the future.

In other words, this first week of November is about connecting with what is true and worthwhile and letting go of those things that don’t work for us, particularly if we are in co-dependant relationships or states of minds or always putting our own needs last.

The following are my full interpretations of the active degrees for this Venus/Mars conjunction from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom:

(Remember that you have to add 1 to the degree of the zodiac to get the correct Sabian Symbol).

This particular conjunction of Venus and Mars occurs on November 3 in the United States and November 4 in Australia on Virgo 25: A FLAG AT HALF-MAST IN FRONT OF A PUBLIC BUILDING – this Sabian Symbol is telling us that if something is gone, finished, over in your life, it may be time to admit to yourself that it is dead and it needs to be buried, for once and for all.

The past is utterly indifferent to its worshippers. William Winter

Commentary: ‘A Flag at Half-Mast in Front of a Public Building’ is a Symbol of Sailors Lowering An Old Flag and Raising a New Oneaccomplishment and achievement coupled with the loss or mourning for someone or something that has died, been completed or abandoned in some way. It can picture carrying a task through to completion. Now it is time for recognition of what’s been accomplished during the life that’s been lived.

Oracle: This Symbol reflects the need for the acknowledgement or public display of something that has passed on or disappeared from your life. It may be important to let others know that there has been a change of some kind or a passing on. This may be a lonely passage or it may involve many others. The display should not be noisy or overt, but a show of respect and accepted as a normal part of life. This means that you don’t have to hide or pretend that nothing has happened. Others may prefer to have a simple and respectful sign that brings the loss to their attention. This allows for understanding without the embarrassment of saying or doing the wrong thing in what may be a sensitive and emotional time for both yourself and others. The fact that this ‘Flag’ is in ‘Front of a Public Building’ implies that this passing away may have importance to many in the community. People, or groups wearing a black armband are similar to the flag at ‘Half-Mast’. Grieving may be a necessary part of the process, but it is also a time for assimilating what it took to get you where you are.

Keywords: Public tribute and recognition. Political affairs. The desire to leave a legacy to society. Having the power to sway the masses or authorities. Signs for all to see. Destinies fulfilled. Coming together as a community or nation to share loss. Judgment on one’s life. Appraisal of deeds and character. Public holidays. Obituaries. Taking the time to grieve. Black armbands. Institutions that are closed. Mourning the loss of somebody greatly admired.

The Caution: Feeling an obligation to carry on without taking time to sort out issues from the past or mourn any loss. Devastation and mourning. The burning desire to leave behind something no matter what the cost. Things coming to a standstill. Crocodile tears for what’s passed away. Hypocritical mourning for the chosen few.

So, this is likely to be a time of assessing what you take into the future with you. You may have experienced loss, for some it could be considerable and painful loss, over this past year or so.

Venus and Mars will be joining up on the previous degree as well.…  the following is the Karmic Condition (you can read here about the Karmic Condition) of this conjunction (both Venus and Mars are in this degree in the few days before the exact conjunction).

The Karmic Condition for this conjunction is Virgo 24: MARY AND HER WHITE LAMB

Mary had a little lamb, Its fleece was white as snow; And everywhere that Mary went The lamb was sure to go.  Nursery rhyme

Mary and Her White LambCommentary: ‘Mary and Her White Lamb’ is a Symbol reflecting innocence and purity. It is derived from an old nursery rhyme; ‘Mary’s White Lamb’ followed ‘Mary’ wherever she might go. They had a very strong bond between them. The ‘Lamb’ seemed to be very taken by ‘Mary’ as was ‘Mary’ by the Lamb. There is a strong sense, a need to be watchful for dependent or codependent behavior with others. This story shows a strong sense of attachment and dependence.

Oracle: Is someone following someone else around, or acting like a doe-eyed lamb? Maybe they are constantly checking on the other, wanting to know their every move. Are they trying to monopolize someone, whilst excluding others? If one were to leave the scene, how would the other react? Sometimes, what seems to be “codependent” behavior is someone merely looking out for your best interests, so don’t assume the worst right away. Look at their motives, or your own, for that matter, for any clingy behavior and assess why they are behaving the way they are. Having a belief in the integrity of people and the purity of their motives can bring joy and a sense of belonging. There is usually a strong feeling of kindness and softness with this Symbol. Keeping a sense of innocence, purity and honesty in the situation will lift you up and out of any problems. Being kind and yet firm, loving and yet a separate individual and sharing without losing your boundaries can lead to a wonderful, pure experience of love and friendship. There’s a need for imagination mixed with simplicity. However, there can be a feeling of being “lost” in the wilderness when there’s no support or reassurance from others. In terms of relationships, there can be an imbalance where one person looks up to the other. Be watchful to see if anyone is giving away their power in this situation.

Keywords: Simple childlike innocence or pure escapism. Naivety. The Mary and Jesus story. Dependence. Kindness. Friendship. Bonds between pets and owners. Believing in the essential goodness of others. Hanging out with people. Looking out for someone. Cuteness. The urge to prove something. Dislike of dirt or grime. Being ‘addicted’ to someone or something.

The Caution: Naiveté. Avoiding real issues. Stalking. Overprotection. Doubting motives. Paranoia that someone is following you. Feeling lost without the other. Doe-eyed attraction. Clinging to people. Arousing jealousy through favoritism. Not leaving people alone. Checking people’s whereabouts. Not growing up. Being the black sheep.

The Quest Degree of this conjunction is Virgo 26 (you can read about the Karmic and Quest Degrees here).

Virgo 26: A BOY WITH A CENSER SERVES NEAR THE PRIEST AT THE ALTAR

A man who pays respect to the great paves the way for his own greatness. Chinese Proverb

Commentary: ‘A Boy’ is shown with a ‘Censer’. He ‘Serves Near the Priest at the Altar’. Boy Priest Second Fiddle AltarThe ‘Boy’ doesn’t have the experience or social position of the ‘Priest’, but that shouldn’t put him off his duties. His position and responsibilities are still important. In a Catholic church service, wine is drunk as a symbol of the blood of Christ. Wafers are placed on the tongues of the believers as the representation of the body of Christ. How the ‘Boy’ reacts to the ritual or ceremony will depend on his upbringing, beliefs or temperament. He could be rapt with fascination at what is being played out or he could be indifferent, bored and really preferring to go home. It is unclear whether the ‘Boy’ wants to eventually take the position of the older ‘Priest’, or colleague, or not. He may grow up to do other things, but right now he’s got his position or duty to fulfill. This may be less than he’s actually able to do or is truly “qualified” to do.

Oracle: Be cautious of feeling that what you are doing is inconsequential; even the smallest contribution is an important part of the whole and we all play our part in some measure. Sometimes there’s the need to wait things out until one is more mature, practiced or prepared to be in charge. Right now you may be someone’s “right-hand man” and not in charge of proceedings. A more exalted position will be attained, given time. Give reverence and respect to your everyday routines, no matter how insignificant they seem and you will find your sense of hope renewed. However, watch out for any feelings of jealousy that someone is bigger, better, more experienced or more respected than the other. Measuring one’s self by the successes of others can be useful, except when it degrades your belief in yourself, or in others. In your situation who is the ‘Priest’ and who is the ‘Boy’?

Keywords: Youthful attitudes. Doing what’s simple, with silence and devotion. Participating in the toil but not the glory. Altars and shrines. Incense. Burning candles. Passing down wisdom and knowledge. Looking up to those in power. Work experience. Apprenticeships. Feelings of awe and respect. Religious and social ceremonies. Issues of authority and the abuse of it.

The Caution: Being dominated by spiritual hierarchy that is devised by human rationalism. Doing “lesser things” to avoid responsibility. Not taking a place of authority when one could or should. Feeling not good enough because of inexperience. Someone always hanging around. Incompetence. Refusal to take instruction. Sexual abuse. Betrayal of beliefs. The church overpowering one’s life.

The Sabian Symbols for the Sun during this conjunction are very telling. The major theme seems to be are you having a wonderful time in life, with socialising, feeling like you fit into society, having enough money and resources, fun, flirtation, love, security and self-worth, etc, to keep you happy?

The Sun is traversing an area of Scorpio that speaks about being ‘at the ball or being Cinderella’. Sometimes we’re alright with being Cinderella; there are always times for doing the jobs or the work at hand and we can feel ok with that. However, there are times when others are out, enjoying life, mixing it up, partying, taking time off, wearing their finest threads and some of us are at the coalface, cleaning out the fireplace, on our hands and knees scrubbing the floor (figuratively speaking).

So, the degrees of the Sun during this third and final pass of Venus and Mars meeting up, are the following (I’m included my shortened interpretation of these degrees, otherwise this post will go on forever).

The Sun will be on Scorpio 11: A DROWNING PERSON IS BEING RESCUED

The drowning man will clutch at a straw. Proverb

A Drowning Man Is Being RescuedThis Symbol shows the ability, or the necessity, of helping others, being on hand when they need it and rescuing and bringing a sense of life back to people. It can show a rescuing nature; a counselor, therapist, life saver, etc. Of course, it can be that you need “Rescuing” in some way, whether it’s through counseling, getting a much needed loan, or having stress and strain lifted so that you can breathe freely again. This symbol often shows someone overpowered or overcome by their inability to cope emotionally .Often we feel like we are being suffocated, by our marriage, job, friendships, life path or the lack of these things. Know that help is at hand and soon you’ll be able to breathe easily again.

Resuscitation. Regaining one’s breath. Being rescued. Finding life renewed. Salvation. Finding help in times of crisis. Ventilators. Oxygen. Dependence. Last minute reprieves.

The Caution: Panicking to draw help rather than learning how to cope. Unrealistic reliance on others. Getting into deep water on a regular basis. Not wanting to save yourself.

and

Then, the Sun will be on Scorpio 12: A BRILLIANT ASSEMBLY OF OFFICIALS AT AN OFFICIAL EMBASSY BALL

The true definition of a snob is one who craves for what separates men rather than for what unites them. John Buchan

never-look-back-if-cinderella-went-back-to-pick-up-her-shoe-she-wouldnt-have-become-a-princess-quote-2This Symbol implies the ability to mix with people from all over the world, to talk in different kinds of languages or travel in the circles of the elite. There’s probably an issue about being invited to the ‘right’ functions or that you’re sure of being on the list of those who gather to make decisions or call the shots. Enjoying social situations can be rewarding on many levels, however, the conditions may sometimes be caged in rather strict protocol and rules of behavior that you and others have to adhere to. Look at yourself and observe whether you are being your natural self or putting on a show for others. This can imply social climbing and political strategies.

Political game-playing. Manners and protocol. Who knows who and what it’s worth. Being able to speak everyone’s language. Issues of being invited. Etiquette. Dressing up.

The Caution: Role-playing. Not knowing how to behave in “polite society”. Cinderella feelings of not being worthy. Diplomatic standoffs. Gate crashing. Out of one’s depth.
