Getting Above And Beyond It All: October’s Libran New Moon
Flying might not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price. Amelia Earhart
Words have no wings but they can fly many thousands of miles. Korean proverb
There are no signposts in the sky to show a man has passed that way before. There are no channels marked. The flier breaks each second into new uncharted seas. Anne Morrow Lindbergh
The airplane stays up because it doesn’t have the time to fall. Orville Wright
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat! How I wonder what you’re at! Up above the world you fly! Like a tea tray in the sky. Lewis Carroll
Faith without works is like a bird without wings; though she may hop with her companions on earth, yet she will never fly with them to heaven. Francis Beaumont
If there were any justice in this world, people would occasionally be permitted to fly over pigeons. Gene Brown
October’s new Moon occurs on October 19 in the US and October 20 in Australia in Libra. This is yet another powerful lunation, and, it’s one with some very strong messages. With Uranus exactly opposite this new Moon, we are likely to have some very interesting messages coming through, breakthroughs, realizations and decisions that can see some big changes being made, at least on some level (physically, mentally, emotionally, etc.)
The message from Uranus has been very interesting for several months this year, and, especially just recently. Up until a few weeks ago, Uranus was on Aries 28: A LARGE DISAPPOINTED AUDIENCE, and, I imagine that most of us have felt that keenly. Whether it’s the shocking and devastating weather events this year; the hurricanes, flooding, record heat temperatures, fires, hurricanes again, the circus that passes as politics, many have had a lot to feel ‘disappointed’ about. Even if we were not affected personally, we might have picked up on the suffering of others, the sheer sense of defeat and alienation that many around the world have been feeling. Uranus is retrograde, and, it’s changed degrees, and, it’s current transit over Aries 27 is a lot more heartening.
Uranus is now on Aries 27: THROUGH IMAGINATION, A LOST OPPORTUNITY IS REGAINED. Uranus’ passage retrograde over this degree is asking us to take a good look at our inner and outer dialogue. How and what do we think as we go about our lives? Could our dialogue be improved? We may need to observe our thoughts, random or otherwise, to see how we’re creating our days, our lives… As I’ve mentioned before, I have been listening to a lot of Neville Goddard’s lectures on Youtube (highly recommended), and, Neville talks about how our ‘wonderful human imagination’ creates everything. Neville says that nothing was created without imagination, and, his argument is compelling. Casting his chart, I was delighted (but not really surprised) to see that his Jupiter is Aries 27. He talks about imagination constantly, and, his message is one of taking control of our lives by realising that we are the true manifestation of God. It’s fascinating stuff. Neville Goddard died in the 70’s, so he’s no longer around (as Neville, at least), but, there are hundreds of his lectures on Youtube to enrich our lives. He says over and over that ‘assumption hardens into fact’, and, if we actually assume that we have something, are in possession of something (rather than affirmations of want or lack or need), that assumption will become our reality. Neville says that we can rewrite the past by seeing it in a completely different light; by rewriting what happened in our minds. All very holographic stuff, and, Neville comes out of the fabulous New Thought movement which sits more easily with me than the current New Age movement.
Whether or not one gets into the messages of Neville Goddard, Uranus is giving us an opportunity to use this time to rethink our thoughts. I find it useful to notice negative thoughts or messages coming to mind by saying ‘not useful now’, ‘don’t need to think about that’, or, just dropping the story altogether.
Jupiter has just recently entered Scorpio where it will stay until November 8, 2018. Jupiter’s message at this new Moon is one of building community. Whether it’s stepping up to help others, to join together to share our skills and our tools, or, donate funds or any number of other positive contributions, we are being asked to think of our communities. Of course, especially as this is Jupiter, our community can be the world, but, we might also find that we want to improve our general environment as well. Jupiter and Mercury are conjunct (together), and, this can help us to see the bigger picture, the bigger story in our lives, the universe, everything ;)
Mercury is conjunct Jupiter at this new Moon, giving us the ability to go deeper, to think more deeply, to concentrate on issues that we might have put aside. Mercury’s passage over the few days after the new Moon is one of letting go of things from the past, and, Mercury passes over some extra psychic and clairvoyant (knowing) degrees.
Saturn is trining the Moon’s north node, and, we might be feeling the need to get more organised, to throw out those things we no longer need, to get more structured and disciplined. We can accomplish a great deal with this energy now, especially if we’re paying attention to the messages coming our way.
Mars is going from Virgo to Libra at this new Moon, and, as such, traversing the Super Galactic Center over the week or so following the new Moon. It’s time to connect in with that Law Of Attraction and see how we’re manifesting our life. What do you want to change? What needs revision? Soon, in November and December, we’ll also have Saturn transiting the Galactic Center, so, we’re being asked to really tune into our positive thoughts and aspirations. Onwards and upwards!
Mars is also separating from opposing Chiron and squaring Saturn, so, the lead up to this new Moon has felt rather fraught with difficulties, and, for many, frustration. The recent sex scandals in the US have been reflected in this t-square with Chiron on a degree that speaks about people leaving, splitting off (or, some cases, desertion), and, we’re seeing many questioning issues to do with power with Chiron again about to traverse Pisces 25: THE PURGING OF THE PRIESTHOOD.
There’s more that can be said about this new Moon, but, it is mostly covered in the list of Sabian Symbols for the planets below.

The new Moon each month marks a time of new beginnings and realisations. It’s like a birth after a time of gestation or being ‘in the womb’. Here, the light begins to return and we can see new beginnings and possibilities. A new Moon means that the Sun and the Moon are both together – bringing a synergy of their energies together. The new Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions for the future. This period is wonderful for planting seeds of whatever kind. What do you want to manifest in your future? Whether you write it down, sing about it or just hold the thought forms in your mind, doing this at the new Moon can realise some fabulous results around the things that you want to draw into your life.
The new Moon is on Libra 27: AN AIRPLANE SAILS, HIGH IN THE BRIGHT CLEAR SKY – the following is my interpretation from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom –
Commentary: ‘An Airplane Sails High in the Bright Clear Sky’ is an image of flight and escape and gives the feeling of unfettered freedom. It can symbolize being carefree and not bound to the everyday, grounded realities that most people are caught up in. Being in the ‘Airplane’ can bring a sense of being above everything, an observer and somewhat detached. We all need moments of clear, focused detachment and the enjoyment of life’s pleasures.
Oracle: There may be some people in this situation that need to be recognized, embraced or noticed in some way. Maybe it is you that has to do this, or to receive it. You, or another, may feel that they are somehow “above” or beyond the situation, but how long can one go on flying so high? Somebody in this situation is probably avoiding the reality of what’s going on, or they may be avoiding having close, intimate interactions with people around them. How long can there continue to be ‘Bright Clear Sky’? We all need to come down to earth after some incredible or gravity defying experience, even if we don’t want to—or don’t feel ready to. For now, there may be the feeling that you are above the situation and are being carried beyond this time or place to something completely new. There is probably a need for calm objective observation. ‘Sailing’ above difficulties, and people, may bring new information to light; things that you weren’t able to “see”, or know, previously. For the moment, ‘Sailing’ on and enjoying both the experience and the view may be what’s needed. However, sooner or later you’re going to have to land back in reality. Are you prepared not only for the flight but also for the landing? What are the real down-to-earth needs that are being shown and that need attention?
Keywords: Transcending difficulties or escape from reality. Optimism that knows no bounds. A bird’s eye view of things. Detachment. Objectivity. Chemical influences. Freedom from life’s routine. Pilots and planes. Clear air turbulence. Roller coaster rides. Awareness of up and down, left and right, in and out. Sense of destination. Decreasing gravity. Acceleration of time. Fisheye lens. The need for navigation.
The Caution: Difficulty in seeing the true details of what’s going on. Escape from reality. Running out of fuel. Egoism. Playing with gravity. Disconnection from the everyday world.
The Karmic Degree for the Moon is Libra 26: AN EAGLE AND A LARGE WHITE DOVE TURNING CONSTANTLY INTO EACH OTHER
This Symbol implies the ability, or the necessity, of being able to integrate the principle of the will (the “Eagle”) with the principle of the emotions (the “White Dove). Being able to bring these two together makes for a much stronger effect on others and the
personality is strengthened and given an edge that it otherwise might not have. There may be confusion around whether to use force or love in some situations. Being firm and yet kind, being flexible and yet sure of what you’re doing or where you’re heading keeps one on an even keel. Alternation of these responses will lead to the best solution.
Keywords: Tempering one’s will with love and bolstering up one’s emotional responses with strength. Cooperation of mind, will, spirit and heart. Schizophrenia. Eagles and doves. Being strong and soft at the same time. Adopting the attitudes of spirit, power and love.
The Caution: Being “all over the place” with reactions. Being changeable. Not acting for the purpose of a definite outcome. Confusing others with conflicting behavior. Not knowing what to expect next. On one minute—off the next.
The Quest Degree for the Moon is Libra 28: A PERSON ALONE IN DEEP GLOOM. UNNOTICED, ANGELS ARE COMING TO THEIR AID
This Symbol shows help, encouragement and assistance coming when one is most in need of it. There can be an inclination to depression with this degree, but it seems that, particularly if faith is employed, there is always some redeeming event or someone helpful turns up and the “Gloom” is dispersed and the light returns to one’s life; there is a realization that things are getting better. It will dawn on you that you are being helped in some way; ‘Angels’ come to aid those who need them. Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance. Have hope, faith, trust and work on changing your attitude and watch hope return.
Keywords: Feelings of not being alone. Awareness of spiritual help in times of need. Salvation versus depression. Feeling like one’s luck is about to change. Improvements in the pipeline. Changes in the “weather”. Helpers arriving just when they’re needed. Brightening influences. Angels and spiritual forces for good. Guardian angels.
The Caution: Unrealistic reliance on spiritual agencies or help from others. Feeling like no one cares or that no one is listening. Being alone and forgotten. Losing faith in things getting better. Refusing help. Misery and gloom and doom.
The Moon symbolizes: Emotions, moods, mother, family, clan, domestic issues, relationship to home and country. Feelings, sentiments, nourishment, emotional nurturing, monkey chatter mind, lunar and menstrual cycles, clarity of emotions or lunacy. Female energy – yours and others.
Mercury is on Scorpio 4: A YOUTH HOLDING A LIGHTED CANDLE IN A DEVOTIONAL RITUAL GAINS A SENSE OF THE GREAT ‘OTHER WORLD’
This Symbol shows a sense of faith and wide-eyed innocence that draws spiritual experiences in, sometimes in rather unexpected ways. There’s a feeling of reverence here, along with ritual and ceremony. The “Candle” depicts the light
that illuminates one’s consciousness and “A Youth” implies a young person, perhaps doing an apprenticeship or an aspirant on the path to spiritual self-actualization. The “Youth” gets a glimpse into spirit, into the hidden side of life, perhaps having clairvoyant visions or getting goose-bumps from moments when the veil between the two worlds seems very thin. Rituals of all shapes and sizes and simple rays of hope give you spiritual strength. Light a candle and affirm your intentions.
Keywords: Simple ideals. Ceremonies that are pure and uncomplicated. Affirming intention to the path. The light of consciousness. Shining a light that brings understanding of things on the spiritual level. Spiritualist meetings. Feeling overwhelmed. Enlightenment. Wide – eyed innocence and wonder. Sexual experiments leading to transcendence. Potency. Devotion to ritual. Expansion of psychic talents.

The Karmic Degree for Mercury is Scorpio 3: NEIGHBORS HELP IN A HOUSE-RAISING PARTY IN A SMALL VILLAGE
This Symbol shows people coming together in order to commune and build and accomplish something. Rather than going it alone, great things can be achieved if everyone works and pulls together. It is by acting as a community, rather than as separate individuals, that difficult projects can be undertaken and completed. Sharing one’s skills, resources, time, tools and experiences can build worthwhile community values and enduring friendships that enrich and reward the community. Along with the labor, there will be time to share a drink, a meal and a chat, further drawing people into a sense of community and a shared purpose.
Keywords: Cooperation. Real estate deals. Community concerns. Buying or building houses. Renting apartments and homes. Needing help to find shelter. The agreement of neighbors to maintain community harmony. “Raising the roof”. Parties. Dormitories. Having to consider the needs of lots of people. Match making. Community halls. The Quest Degree for Mercury is Scorpio 5: A MASSIVE, ROCKY SHORE RESISTS THE POUNDING OF THE SEA
This Symbol often implies a relentless resistance to change, along with a strong and abiding endurance and ability to stay with things for a long time. It can show feelings of being under emotional assault, like life is wearing you out or grinding you down. Perhaps the same old conversations, problems, issues, keep coming up. Have faith in the fact that you are strong enough to resist and maintain – like the “Massive” shoreline, you have the ability to resist things that test or “Pound” you. The question is: How long can you hold out, especially if it’s been going on for so long? Employ love and compassion, along with knowing when to allow change to happen and when to let go if things are no longer working.
Keywords: Relentless, unchanging reality. The establishment. Feeling battered and bruised. The need to hold onto reality in difficult situations. Sticking with something no matter what the cost or how long it takes. Chinese water torture. Evolution. Endurance. Pounding waves, rocks and sand.

Venus is on Libra 7: A WOMAN FEEDING CHICKENS AND PROTECTING THEM FROM THE HAWKS
This Symbol shows someone who nourishes and protects and feels a sense of being in charge and being responsible for those who can’t look after themselves. There is probably the need to look after those in your care, whether persons, things or ideas. There could be dangers that no-one else seems to be taking seriously, however your efforts to protect and nourish will be rewarded in the future. Feeding, nourishing and protecting those around you will pay off sometimes in unexpected ways. There’s a need to be careful not to favor some far more than others or to take too much on, or feel responsible for everything and everyone as this can exhaust and limit what you’re trying to accomplish.
Keywords: Nurturance, protection and guardianship. Being on the lookout for changes in the atmosphere. Spotting problems that nobody else notices. Shielding innocents from “bad-guys”. Motherhood and the stress of it. Predators. Being firm with outsiders. Asylum. Places of residence

The Karmic Degree for Venus is Libra 6: A PERSON WATCHES THEIR IDEALS TAKING A CONCRETE FORM BEFORE THEIR INNER VISION
This Symbol is one of the few Sabian Symbols that speak directly of the idea of the ‘law of attraction’; as a person imagines, so does their outer reality take shape and
bring to them what they were imagining. In your life you’ll find vivid examples of thoughts manifesting as things – other times they may happen without you really realizing it. Ideals are not only bought into the light of reality but they are put to the test. This shows the ability to be able to visualize your thoughts and feelings and it possible to project your creative ideas out into the real world. What you think will happen can happen.
Keywords: Vivid confrontations with one’s objectives. Creative visualizations. Imagining things. Meditations and affirmations. Ideas crystallized. Putting things out into the universe. Making things happen. Seeing things take shape and form. Clairvoyance. Film making. Writing and getting published. The power of manifestation. Solidification. Builders. Sculptures. Dreams.
The Caution: Being dissatisfied with what was thought to be the ideal. Not being careful what you ask for. Neurosis. Focusing on the negative thereby bringing the negative.
The Quest Degree for Venus is Libra 8: A BLAZING FIREPLACE IN A DESERTED HOME
This Symbol implies the ability, or the necessity, to provide warmth and reassurance in times of emptiness, loss or desertion. You may need to remember that even in times of real loneliness, when you feel separated from your ‘center’, there is a constant, unseen, sustaining energy always ready to welcome you home: whether it be the fire of your own spiritual center, the warmth and familiarity of family and kin, or a knowing that one is sustained by humanity at large. You may need this reassurance yourself or you may be the one to help others in their hour of need.
Keywords: Security and comfort left behind. A fire left blazing inside to reassure. Wood for burning. Gas, electricity connections. Holiday homes, or homes that are rarely visited. Homes filled with love, if not people or possessions. The warmth of the heart. Holding a candle for someone who’s gone. Fertility issues. Heart and hearth. Fireplaces. The place to which one returns.

Mars is on Virgo 29: A MAN GAINING SECRET KNOWLEDGE FROM AN ANCIENT SCROLL HE IS READING
This Symbol shows the gaining of knowledge, insights and revelations from learning or study. One can learn from the “Ancient” mysteries or from more modern books or publications. The learning is best used by translating the truths into practical applications in one’s life. Going back to the essential truths of the matter; the inner wisdom of the ages, can bring insights and knowledge that opens up whole new understandings. Modern solutions may or may not be so useful or interesting. Understanding will come through patient, steady work and illuminating inspiration.
Keywords: Learning from ancient mysteries. Looking for answers. Study and its rewards. Reading between the lines. Finding clues from the past and applying them to the present. Being privileged to look into something special. Alchemy. The Bible, the Torah and the Koran. Manuscripts. Scrolls. Ancient writings. Akashic records. Classified documents. Secret papers. Scribes.

The Karmic Degree for Mars is Virgo 28: A BALDHEADED MAN WHO HAS SEIZED POWER
This Symbol shows a personality that “Seizes Power” and takes hold of situations. The fact that he’s “Bald” implies someone with experience, perhaps older, someone willing and able to take a stand and take charge. This pictures times to seize power and push forward with decisions that need to be grounded. It is by force of will that solutions will be found, but one must be careful to temper situations as displays of masculine will can get out of hand very quickly. This degree sometimes needs to be handled with caution as it can mean having people in one’s life that bully, push and demand.
Keywords: Dominating other’s mental space. Male hormones running rampant. Issues to do with hair. Ponytails. The story of Samson and his hair. Taking positions of power. Uniforms. Demanding others follow one’s lead. Strutting one’s stuff. “Wearing the pants in the family”. The ability to direct and organize many people. Letting others express their opinions or have a say. The Quest Degree for Mars is Virgo 30: HAVING AN URGENT TASK TO COMPLETE, A PERSON DOESN’T LOOK TO ANY DISTRACTIONS
This Symbol implies the need for single-mindedness in application. ‘Distractions’ can lead one astray and waste valuable time, with the end result of not completing what one sets out to do. Indeed you can find yourself not even starting what you need to be starting. Although, with this Symbol around, you can be the type of person who won’t let anything get in the way of completing objectives. The trick is not to get lost in the details. Keeping a list of goals can help focus on what needs to be done. Pushing through with the work, avoiding temptations regardless of what’s going on around you will bring the rewards of completion.
Keywords: Staying true to yourself and remaining on the path or on the job. One-pointedness. Meditation. Blocking out the external world in order to achieve complete focus on a situation or state of mind. Religious experiences. Maintaining one direction. Seeing something through to completion. Taking the phone off the hook. One-eyed behavior. Every man who possibly can should force himself to a holiday of a full month in a year, whether he feels like taking it or not. William James
The Caution: Paying too much attention to outside influences. Letting the slightest excuse take you away from what needs to be done – although rigidity of thought or action can lead one to miss creative or intuitive opportunities.
Mars symbolizes: Drive, determination or agenda, how you get to your goals. How you express and handle anger, ambition, assertion of self and ability to step forward. The male principle, sexuality, the ability to step up to the plate when one needs to. Fight or flight.

The Karmic Degree for Jupiter is Scorpio 2: A BROKEN BOTTLE AND SPILLED PERFUME
This Symbol implies something fragile and beautiful that may somehow be shattered or lost. It can also show the need to let things go and not hang onto them to the point of shattering and loss. There will be times of building up or concentrating your emotions until they are suddenly let out. There may be little that you can do about an outburst, but you may need to be careful of what you do as you sort things out. Sometimes things need to be “Broken” so that their contents can be released and fully appreciated or revealed. The smell of “Perfume” can release memories of love, longing and desire, but also anger, hurt or jealousy.

Shining a light that brings understanding of things on the spiritual level. Spiritualist meetings. Feeling overwhelmed. Enlightenment. Wide – eyed innocence and wonder. It also speaks of natural, positive, good will towards the inhabitants and, probably, towards the neighbors. There is a clear omen of good fortune at your door. Whether you are an “Immigrant” or someone looking to move onto new territory, you need to be prepared to venture out into new adventures for the promise that’s offered. Once you’ve “Fulfilled the Requirements”, you can move into this brand new life and reap the rewards. There may need to be adjustments about the way one communicates one’s thoughts and ideas – be receptive to this new way of life and you’ll learn much. Reorientation of self. Not getting successfully through the paperwork. Being untrue to oneself in order to be accepted.
The Quest Degree for Saturn is Sagittarius 25: A CHUBBY LITTLE RICH BOY RIDES UPON A HOBBYHORSE
This Symbol shows someone who has everything in life playing and enjoying doing whatever they want in a safe and comfortable atmosphere – the ‘Boy’ does something he feels like doing, something easy and natural. He plays and may not be thinking too much about what’s going on in the real world as he is shielded from the more harmful elements of society because he is ‘Rich’. You may feel that you are doing what is necessary, but this is more like a training situation and will lead to greater ability in the future, although you should watch out for the propensity to be ‘flogging a dead horse’. Practice and play, but one day you’re going to have to prove yourself in a more rigorous, demanding situation. rnProtected practice. Imaginative play. Going on and on about something. Hobbies. Playtime. Toys being provided. Exercise. Boys and their toys. Unrestrained passions.

Having no friends to play with.

Uranus is on Aries 27: THROUGH IMAGINATION, A LOST OPPORTUNITY IS REGAINED
This Symbol shows the talent or the ability to be able to use inner creative energy to revitalize ideas or opportunities that seemed to be lost. Whatever it is that you need to do, believe that it is possible and create an image in your mind and you will most likely succeed at gaining it or recovering it. Always take heart; there is energy here to recapture things that seemed to be lost. Visualizing what you want, allowing time and watching for it to manifest can bring astounding results. Sometimes, however, the “lost opportunities regained” are in a different form than we had first imagined. Creative imagination and visualization. Hope renewed. Second chances. Last minute reprieves. Being forgiven or pardoned. Imagineering. Making up for losses.
Keywords: Creative imagination and visualization. Hopes renewed when all seemed lost. Second chances. Last minute reprieves. Retracing your steps. Judging things to be positive when once they were thought to be negative. Being exonerated or forgiven. Pardons giving release. Imagineering. Retrieving things. Making up for lost ground or time. Changing your mind therefore changing your outcome.
The Caution: Relying on self-pity. Denying the imagination to recover the situation. Not noticing solutions to problems. Letting chances for recovery disappear through inaction or laziness. Going over and over lost opportunities. Finding it impossible to let go. Staring at loss and not realizing what one has.
The Karmic Degree for Uranus is Aries 26: A PERSON POSSESSED OF MORE GIFTS THAN THEY CAN HOLD
This Symbol often shows someone who has more talent, more possessions, more gifts than most other people. Perhaps too much is demanded or expected of you or you expect life to give you more and more and more. The ‘Audience’ sometimes only remembers the last performance, so get up and try again. Be aware that you may be your own ‘audience’. Do you feel that things have or haven’t lived up to expectations?
