Reading The Signs: September’s Virgo New Moon
I realize that if I wait until I am no longer afraid to act, write, speak, be, I’ll be sending messages on a Ouija board, cryptic complaints from the other side. Audre Lorde
Imagination is the outreaching of mind . . . the bombardment of the conscious mind with ideas, impulses, images and every sort of psychic phenomena welling up from the preconscious. It is the capacity to dream dreams and see visions. Rollo May
People need hard times and oppression to develop psychic muscles. Frank Herbert
In my writing I am acting as a map maker, an explorer of psychic areas. . . a cosmonaut of inner space, and I see no point in exploring areas that have already been thoroughly surveyed. William S. Burroughs
Is there a spirit present? Standard Ouija board question
You must pray carefully and for the very essence of your desire or you will be caught up in many musings of things you may not want for your own experience. Ouija message
The Virgo new Moon promises to be a rather interesting one. Occuring on September 9 in the United States and early in the morning September 10 in Australia, it is opposite Neptune and trine Pluto, and, it seems to be suggesting that, if we can get past our illusions, plug into our creativity and spirituality and optimism for the future (instead of worrying and feeling like one is in a hall of warped mirrors), we can make some big changes in our lives, even ones that have been coming for some time. We may have to put aside feelings of guilt and having to do things out of duty and sacrifice, rather than doing the things that our soul longs to do, and, connect in with our inner power and strength.
We also have a nice sextile from Jupiter to this new Moon, so, we could be learning, assimilating new ideas and concepts, travelling, exploring new territories and options, etc. We may find our insights becoming stronger and stronger, especially as the degree of Jupiter, Scorpio 19: A PARROT LISTENING AND THEN TALKING, REPEATS A CONVERSATION HE HAS OVERHEARD, can have us picking up clues, listening more to our intuition, having clairvoyant or psychic breakthroughs, or, see clues behind what is really being said. Scorpio 19 can also be a degree of translation; whether language, ideas, concepts, or, gossip, it can reveals things that have been sometimes long hidden and obscured. Jupiter was on this degree some months ago, and, we’re seeing ‘conversations’ or ‘gossip’ or secrets coming to light, especially in the realm of politics. When the NY Times op-ed was released recently, Mercury was on Leo 30: AN UNSEALED LETTER REVEAL SECRET AND CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION, and, Mercury was exactly quincunx Mars on Capricorn 30: A SECRET MEETING OF MEN RESPONSIBLE FOR WORLD AFFAIRS. It seems obvious that a lot more ‘secrets’ or ‘truths’ are going to be revealed.
Mars is now direct, and, about to enter Aquarius again, and, Mars will exactly square Uranus soon after this new Moon, so, we will have a t-square between Uranus, Venus and Mars. This is bound to shake things up, especially if we’ve had some big insights into our lives during the recent Mars retrograde period. And, as we’re about to enter into the ’40 days and 40 nights of Venus retrograde’, we would do well to be looking for that writing on the wall that is likely to be clues to where we’re headed from here.
It’s instructive to note that Venus will be on Scorpio 2: A BROKEN BOTTLE AND SPILLED PERFUME just after the new Moon and it will be square Mars on Aquarius 2: AN UNEXPECTED LIGHTNING STORM. Things are set to be ‘spilled’, and, there could be more than a few shocks in store for us. Good ones, and, in some instances, not so good ones. All interesting though, and, through observation, we will no doubt see where to from here.
At this new Moon, Venus has just entered Scorpio, and, a few days after the new Moon, it is opposite Uranus, signalling some events around letting go of the past, some relationships and friendships, throwing out those things, attitudes, habits, etc, that we no longer need. We have now entered the pre-retrograde shadow period as Venus goes retrograde on October 5th in the US and October 6th in Australia, so, we are already having a taste of this next Venus retrograde period, even as Saturn goes direct this week. With this going on, it can feel like a time of ‘push-me-pull-you’ where we’re not sure what’s going on, or, who’s doing what to who. The Venus/Uranus opposition has the flavour of ‘calling in family, friends, or neighbours’ as Venus will be on Scorpio 3 when it opposes Uranus on Taurus 3. The Sabian Symbol for Scorpio 3: NEIGHBORS HELP IN A HOUSE-RAISING PARTY IN A SMALL VILLAGE. Many of us might find our relationships with those around us changing, at least in some fashion. For some people, there is bound to be a moving away from those you habitually spend time with; you might find yourself not seeing those you normally see, or, you could find your interest in some others waning, and, you might be looking for new people to mix it up with.
The Moon’s nodes are also involved in a grand-cross with Venus and Uranus, so, there could be a LOT of changes coming up on so many levels, particularly around issues relating to the past. Letting go of what’s holding us back is always a good idea, however, now, it may be vital in order to move onto the next level.
New doors are set to open in so many ways, and, it helps if we feel ready to implement the new order. And, in this Virgo season, whether it’s autumn or spring where you are, this is a great time to do a spring cleaning in order to usher in the new season.
There‘s much more to say about all of this. I usually post a lot more of the Karmic and Quest degrees in my newsletters. I felt to keep this one a little shorter. But, there‘s always much more to say.

The new Moon each month marks a time of new beginnings and realisations. It’s like a birth after a time of gestation or being ‘in the womb’. Here, the light begins to return and we can see new beginnings and possibilities. A new Moon means that the Sun and the Moon are both together – bringing a synergy of their energies together. The new Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions for the future. This period is wonderful for planting seeds of whatever kind. What do you want to manifest in your future? Whether you write it down, sing about it or just hold the thought forms in your mind, doing this at the new Moon can realise some fabulous results around the things that you want to draw into your life
New Moon: Sep 9, 2018 6:01 pm
The new Moon is on Virgo 18: TWO GIRLS PLAYING WITH A OUIJA BOARD – the following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom –
Commentary: ‘Two Girls Playing With a Ouija Board’. The ‘Girls’ are curious to see what will happen if they contact spirits on the “other side”. Indeed, it is said that it was ‘Two Girls’ who popularized the Ouija Board in 1848. They were sisters from Hydesville, New York. They became instant celebrities and sparked a national obsession that spread all across the United States and Europe, signaling the birth of modern spiritualism.
Oracle: Here, the ‘Two Girls’ shows that there may be a need to share your thoughts, explorations, dreams and ideas with another. They are ‘Playing With a Ouija Board’—there is a desire to contact a deeper wisdom, possibly by the use of some kind of divinational tool. You may need some form of assistance to help you focus on any messages that are coming through. This “tool” can be many things; a Ouija board, the Sabian Symbols, the I Ching, the tarot, etc. Wisdom and knowledge may come with time, serious intent and effort. At first, there may be rather youthful and naïve attempts to discover the deeper meaning of life. Things may become a little strange; there can be little control over what is coming through from “the other side”. You may have to just sit and observe. Sometimes there’s a need to explore these realms with others and there is often something scary about them. What is likely to happen if you leave yourself open and vulnerable? This Symbol can suggest the need to be with someone who shares the same beliefs and interests in life, and to have the curiosity to find out things that may not be immediately apparent. If someone you are in partnership with is reluctant to see things from a similar spiritual or esoteric perspective as you, you might find the relationship breaking down. One partner may be more “straight”, the other more eager to take a chance and explore.
Keywords: Immature curiosity leading to messages and inner guidance. Listening devices. Tuning into possible meanings. Ouija boards. Séances. Clairvoyant abilities. Spirits of the departed. Contact with the “other side”. Messages coming through from unknown sources. Spiritualism. Ectoplasms. Concentrated attention. Poltergeists. Haunted houses. Cold energies. Bringing spirit through. Moving furniture. Phenomena. Weird and spooky. Seeing ghosts. Being a channel.
The Caution: Dealing with situations beyond one’s maturity. Looking for information instead of getting on with life. Naive playing with potentially dangerous elements. Seeking easy answers to avoid responsibility. Fooling around. Superstitious responses to natural phenomena.
The Karmic Condition of the new Moon is Virgo 17: A VOLCANIC ERUPTION BRINGING DUST CLOUDS, FLOWING LAVA, EARTH RUMBLINGS
This Situation implies situations, attitudes or emotions that slowly gather steam, build up and suddenly explode. It pictures situations of catharsis. There may be, at times, an effort to hold things inside, but after a while there can be no more resistance and everything gets forced out. This can be in the form of anger, or passion, but it can also be the explosion of insight and creative ideas. It often works far better to just let things blow, as resisting the urge to let go can cause enormous pressure to build up. Look to see if the force of emotions is really related to current situations.
Keywords: Thoughts or ideas pouring out. Torrents of thought or emotion. Anger that needs expression. Eruptions that are quickly overcome. Pressure cooker environments. After shocks. Waiting for the dust to settle. Cathartic release. Volcanoes. Earthquakes. Earth tremors. Rumblings. Earth changes. Dust
The Caution: Suppression of anger or energy to the point of explosive disaster. Tantrums. Choking the air with sulfurous dust-clouds. Holding things inside. Overreactions. Spewing one’s insides. Flipping out. Events that throw out shocking news or emotions.
The Quest Degree for the new Moon is Virgo 19: A SWIMMING RACE
This Symbol implies the nature of competition, wanting to win and doing one’s best. Whether it’s working hard to achieve the win for rewards in the larger picture – your school, club, country, etc, or winning the race for your own personal ends, this Symbol shows that if you put your head down and go for the objective, you have a good chance of winning, or, at least, of being in the race. You may find yourself in competition over emotional issues or working through things to do with relationships and hoping to win, or come out on top. It is through training, practice and the controlled use of your physical energy and emotions that success can be achieved.
Keywords: Looking sideways to see how others are coping with the strain of competition. Competing with one’s emotions. Capitalism. The striving for first place or greatness. Swimming, sports, competition. Wanting to be first at everything. Learning how fit one is. Concentrating on the goal. Medals and awards. Training and practice. Mercury is on Virgo 7: A HAREM
This Symbol shows being in a group, or a “Harem”. A “Harem” is a symbol of women being, living and working together. Sharing with others, whether women or men, in an atmosphere of trust and belonging can bring rewards of all kinds to your life. There may be a feeling of being dominated or part of a group where you have to compete for whatever small benefits may be available. Perhaps you are not taken seriously enough. There is a need to use your charm and appealing aspects of your nature to succeed and to stand out from the crowd and claim a special place for yourself. Just ensure that you’re not losing out by feeling just one of many.

Venus is on Scorpio 1: A SIGHT-SEEING BUS FILLED WITH TOURISTS
This Symbol speaks of taking in the world through the senses; seeing, tasting, observing and getting in amongst what’s going on. There can be a feeling of knowing one’s destination, having a map or guide, but not always knowing what it is truly like. One feels guided and cocooned, but there can be feelings of being an observer and, sometimes, of being observed. You could feel like you’re separate from what’s going on. Pictures and souvenirs of your journey are likely to be collected. The trick with this degree is to throw your self into life, reach out for all sorts of adventures and, most of all, enjoy the ride!

The “Directors” meet, they conference or just conference call, exchange views, ideas, gossip. There may be decisions to be made or plans to be laid out. Do you make all your decisions on your own, or do you need help? You can often call on the relevant knowledgeable friends or authorities, as you’re bound to know them or how to meet them, and you’ll iron out the details. Sometimes, however, you may feel shut out by those “in charge”.
Keywords: Sharing innermost secrets. Confidential information. Masterly control. Big guys calling the shots. Being too busy to see people of “lesser” importance in your life. Rationing time. Sometimes they write what I say and not what I mean. Baseball player Pedro Guerrero on reporters
This Symbol infers some level of spiritual channeling or the hearing and passing on of messages. Birds symbolize spiritual forces and “Parrots” symbolize the ability to be able to give voice to messages. This Symbol indicates that someone who is receptive to thoughts and ideas can process information to the point where it becomes their own, although they may really be a channel or a translator rather than an originator of these messages or realizations. Saturn is stationary direct on Capricorn 3: THE HUMAN SOUL, IN ITS EAGERNESS FOR NEW EXPERIENCES, SEEKS EMBODIMENT
This Symbol shows being open and receptive to the messages of the world around you, as there is an expansion into a new understanding and a new way of life. Writing is an excellent way for the “Soul” to “Seek Embodiment”. Also there can be issues to do with one’s body. There can be many times of quiet; of inner contemplation and outer observance. Regardless of your more immediate, physical circumstances, there is an evolution of understanding going on. Unbounded enthusiasm is likely to be around. It implies that a time of fulfillment is close by, but there often is still some small effort to be made in that one has to take the simple steps towards inviting wonderful things into your life. Keep going the way you are, following your natural intuition, and you will find the peace you have in sight. Just be aware not to become complacent or lazy as doing nothing and not putting any effort in could lead to great possibilities slipping away.

This shows quieting the mind, spending time in “Quiet’ contemplation, allowing for the “Flow of Inspiration”. Inspiration is a stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity. You’ll find the flow of inspiration coming through if you allow it to and the more creative you allow yourself to be, the more inspiration will be in the messages. You may find that with each idea or creative inspiration there follows another and another. This signifies taking time to relax and go with the flow neither fighting against nor pushing forward. Closed minds and fixed attitudes will not help.
Keywords: Creativity inspired from above. Openness to higher forces and ideals. Realizations. Dreams. Channeling thoughts and feelings. Messages from one’s higher self. Finding solutions. This Symbol shows having to “Carry” heavy loads, to shoulder responsibilities, do chores and jobs and help others, sometimes because there’s no one else who can or will do it. Often, the “Child” gets these responsibilities because they are the one who others know is going to take it seriously, completing the task, taking care of details. You may feel that you have been burdened with responsibilities beyond normal expectations and possibly beyond your capability. Despite being keen and enthusiastic, you must be careful not to try to take on too much, or do too much, or too quickly. Like a child, you need to play, be creative and rest.
Keywords: Being the one everyone counts on to do the job. Feeling weighed down. Having to carry the “bag”. Lifting heavy weights and bearing the consequences. Taking on things above and beyond what one should. Acting the grownup. Maturing quickly. Looking after paperwork. Running errands. Providing food and sustenance for everyone.

emerging and it needs to be welcomed and nurtured. This is the beginning of a whole new impulse, creative and responsive. There’s an emergence of a whole new potentiality. The Moon’s North Node is on Leo 6: AN OLD FASHIONED ‘CONSERVATIVE’ WOMAN IS CONFRONTED BY AN UP-TO-DATE GIRL
This Symbol speaks of being prepared to integrate the conservative and the new, the young and the old and the tried-and-true with the more innovative. You may find yourself faced with choices around these issues. Although both camps hold promise and reward, it is the best qualities of both that is the proper compromise. Even though your habits may be ingrained, there comes a time when you are faced with issues from another perspective. If something or someone is “Confronting” you, remember that often what confronts or bothers us about others really shows issues that have to be examined about ourselves. It may be time to smarten up your act!

The Moon’s South Node is on Aquarius 6: A MASKED FIGURE PERFORMS RITUALISTIC ACTS IN A MYSTERY PLAY
This Symbol shows being theatrical, conveying a story, putting on a show, getting messages across to others. “Mystery Plays” portrayed archetypal stories from the Bible, often performed in Latin. “Performers” traveled the countryside, entertaining and teaching with drama as well as humor. Sometimes the “Mystery Play” can show that things are not quite as they seem. Mysteries can play a big part here – is someone wearing a mask?
