The lunar eclipse (which is a full Moon) that occurs late January/early February is a Super Blue Blood Moon. Falling on the 31st January in the US and the 1st February in Australia, this full Moon is quite unique. In fact, it is so rare that NASA is calling it a ‘lunar trifecta’, the rare combination of a blue moon, a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse. The following is from Space.com (check out the link, there’s some great videos and graphics…)

This spectacular lunar event features the second full moon of the month, also known as a Blue Moon (Lynda’s note: I find it weird that Space.com is referring to it as a ‘Blue Moon’ as, really, I don’t see any astronomical (or, astrological) reason to take any notice of that… further, in Australia, the lunar eclipse falls on February 1, so, in Australia, it is not a Blue Moon at all). The event will coincide with a total lunar eclipse, which is often referred to as a “blood moon” because the moon turns a reddish or copper color when it passes through Earth’s shadow.

What’s more, the Jan. 31 full moon occurs during perigee — the moon’s closest approach to Earth in a single orbit, which means that its diameter will appear about 7 percent larger and 14 percent brighter than usual, making it a supermoon. This is the first time in more than 150 years that the three lunar events will coincide, according to a statement from NASA.

“For the [continental] U.S., the viewing will be best in the West,” Gordon Johnston, program executive and lunar blogger at NASA headquarters in Washington, said in the statement. “Set your alarm early and go out and take a look.”

On Jan. 31, the Super Blue Blood Moon will be visible before sunrise in North America, Alaska and Hawaii. However, viewers in the Middle East, Asia, eastern Russia, Australia and New Zealand will see the Super Blue Blood Moon during moonrise in the morning, according to the NASA statement.

Specifically, skywatchers on the West Coast of the United States will see the lunar eclipse begin at 3:48 a.m. PST. Totality will start around 4:51 a.m. PST and last until 6:05 a.m. PST. Viewers in this area will experience the lunar eclipse from start to finish, as long as it isn’t a cloudy morning, according to the statement.

The Super ‘Blue’ Blood Moon Eclipse occurs on January 31 in the US, and, in the early hours of February 1 in Australia. It’s sure to be a power-packed full moon, and, for many, this could point to a turning point in their lives as many revelations and insights can be gained during this time. The effects of a lunar eclipse can, though, be felt for months after the event, so, we tend to see events unfolding or concretising for quite some time. This eclipse is very likely to bring up issues to do with the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’, issues to do with social stratas, the inequality that exists between rich and poor, etc.

(N.B. I really do not see any value in attributing the epithet of ‘blue moon’ to any lunation as there is no astrological or any other significance whatsoever… however, it does sound good, and space.com (even) is referring to it (which I find weird…), and, it is a rather popular notion, so, I’m deferring to that… :) )

This lunar eclipse falls on a very interesting axis, and, it’s one that I describe as a ‘Cinderella’ cross – what I mean by that is I have observed a type of ‘Cinderella’ theme in the 11+ of fixed signs… Taurus 12, Leo 12, Scorpio 12 and Aquarius 12 – all *can* contain this type of energy. And, this eclipse is highlighting Leo 12 and Aquarius 12, two of the points in the grand cross. As you’ll see below in the description of the Symbols of this eclipse, it’s very much about ‘being at the party or not being at the party’ – wanting to get involved on a social level, or not wanting to. The degree of the Sun at this eclipse speaks very much about social stratas, being up on the social ‘ladder’ or not. Going out and enjoying and schmoozing with others, having fun and meeting people versus having had enough of that and feeling like one enjoys being alone or just with a select few friends or family.

There’s also the ‘me too’ movement and recent discussions and events around women’s issues. Speaking of which, I’ve had some very interesting discussions with my daughter Jess about these issues. Jess is writing what will be, I’m sure, a very important book on women’s rights, and, Jess said something that I found so incredibly interesting; that women are ‘enculturated’ to feel bad, to feel guilty, to not put themselves first, to feel that they should do the others’ bidding… (whoever, the ‘others’ are…). I found it hit a chord, and, yes, there is much more (obviously) to all of this. I definitely see the concept of ‘Cinderella’ in all of this. And, the trick is that a lot of savvy women are no longer ‘waiting for their prince to show up’ – we realise that we need to take the world by its horns (there’s a pun in there, but I’ll leave it out :) ) .

For some, I think many may be rather tired of the superficial chit-chat at parties and there may be an avoidance of socialising, for others, there may be the feeling of having spent time enough alone or not going out and about, and, it could be time to get back into the social scene. Obviously, it depends on your circumstances. The trick with the Cinderella theme that can come with this axis is not to feel like you’re stuck in situations where you are expected to pick up after everyone and scrubbing the floor, cleaning up, etc, until you feel exhausted and unappreciated (and feel like putting your head in the oven rather than cleaning it again). After all, we like to feel appreciated, having fun, doing what we enjoy and not like we’re just wearing ourselves out for some objective that really, in the end, often suits others more than it suits ourselves.

Of course, as I said above, it can just be time to take some time out and not go out, especially if you’re tired of social interaction that is shallow, uninteresting or time wasting. And, we might be tired of playing the ‘mating game’, or, having to turn up sparkling at each social event that pops up.

The Sun degree of this eclipse, Aquarius 12: PEOPLE ON A VAST STAIRCASE GRADUATED UPWARDS can be very much about the issue of social climbing, people at different societal tiers, people above or below, people striving to go higher, etc. The trick with this is not to measure ourselves, or others, against some social construct such as job description, financial status, beauty, or whatever, but, rather, to strive to be more of what we want for ourselves, without the need to compare or be envious or whatever. It can be a tall order, but, by dropping any comparisons or reactions, we can ascend that staircase, that ladder, in a more authentic way –  after all, we are all on our own paths, whatever those paths may happen to be.

In short, a big part of the story of this eclipse is the inequities in society, not only socially, but, also, economically, and, in terms of one’s gender. There are so many discussions about the disparities amongst the sexes, and, I won’t go into it here, but, I do find it interesting, and, it’s been erupting for some time now. Thankfully, I think these discussions are bringing some of this to light in a good way so that a shift can be made (and, I feel that we are ready for that shift).

It’s interesting to note that this is largely an unaspected lunar eclipse. It does have, of course, the aspect to the Moon’s nodes (an eclipse always does), and, it does have Venus in a separating conjunction to the Sun and separating opposition to the Moon, highlighting the idea of social and gender issues. (As I’m writing this, Venus is on Aquarius 12, and, I’m feeling a strong sense of these disparities). And, in the week leading up to this eclipse, we have Mercury squaring Uranus, but, that square is waning at the time of the eclipse. So, with so few aspects, I feel that this eclipse can bring about a sense of being a bit ‘all over the place’, not anchored, or, we may feel like there’s a lot to take into consideration while we move onto the next and the next thing without fully resolving issues that may need more focused attention.

Venus is on Aquarius 17: A WATCHDOG STANDING GUARD PROTECTING HIS MASTER AND HIS POSSESSIONS, and, the day before the eclipse, Venus is on Aquarius 16: A BIG BUSINESSMAN AT HIS DESK. This can bring up issues to do with feeling as though one needs to be vigilant about being taken advantage of, not having one’s rights taken away or infringed, etc. Worry and nervousness about ‘what might happen’ can also be seen in Aquarius 17, along with the feeling of the need for watchfulness, a difficulty relaxing or sleeping, etc. It can bring up the issue of neurosis and feeling ripped off. Of course, it can show the feeling of being protected, feeling blessed to be in good hands, knowing all is good, etc. It all depends on what is unfolding in and around us how we will respond to these energies.

With Venus here, and, taking into consideration the degree of the eclipse, we can sense that we are in ‘competition’ with others, that we have to defend our turf, our ideas, our political leanings, our relationships, our possessions, etc. And, just moments after the eclipse, Venus flips on to the next degree, Aquarius 18: A MAN BEING UNMASKED AT A MASQUERADE. This looks set to be very interesting. Who and what is being ‘unmasked’? This can, of course, point to a situation where we feel that we have to drop any pretense or facade and just tell it like it is. Secrets can come to light with this degree, and, we might be amazed by what is being revealed, sometimes after years of covering up.

Mercury also flips onto the next degree immediately after the time of the eclipse, it goes from Capricorn 30 (often written as A SECRET MEETING OF MEN RESPONSIBLE FOR WORLD AFFAIRS) into Aquarius and on to Aquarius 1: AN OLD ADOBE MISSION IN CALIFORNIA. This ‘mission’ degree can be about issues to do with California, but, it’s more often than not about having, or building, a safe and secure place for people to gather and commune. Religion (or spirituality) often comes up, of course, with this Symbol being activated. It is rather obvious to see what this ‘secret meeting’ might mean on a political level, but, it might not be so obvious in our personal lives. Personally, we might either be totally privy to what’s being said and discussed in the ‘meeting’, or, we might feel that some very important things are being discussed and decisions made without our input. It will be interesting to see with this eclipse with Mercury going into Aquarius onto the Old Adobe Mission, what is going to happen with ‘sanctuary cities’ and DACA and immigrants, etc.

Jupiter is on a very interesting degree, and, in March, Jupiter will go retrograde and will highlight these degrees twice more… Jupiter is on Scorpio 22: HUNTERS PROTECTED BY HEAVY CLOTHING ARE SHOOTING WILD DUCKS, and, Jupiter here can have some people feeling like they are ‘sitting ducks’ (DACA and ICE comes to mind, along with what happened in Hawaii, etc), and, there might be discussions about the issue of guns, war, invasions, being taken advantage of, feeling hopeless and helpless, or, picked on. Of course, we can turn this around and choose to not think about these issues; I can imagine this degree showing how we would do well to ‘shoot down’ those thoughts, emotions, reactions, etc, that rob us of our sense of safety and security.

Jupiter, just some days before the eclipse recently passed over Scorpio 21: OBEYING HIS CONSCIENCE, A SOLDIER RESISTS ORDERS. This degree, especially with Jupiter on it can see some not living up to expectations, leaving before their time is up, not wanting to go along with social conventions, or, the desire to protest and make a noise about inequality, etc, but, it can also show someone who *should* leave their ‘post’ if they can’t fulfill the position. Another reading of this degree is A SOLDIER GOING AWOL. Perhaps some of us need to go AWOL and have some time off from all the political and social and economic games that just tire us out, and, sometimes stop us from being involved in the things we know we should be doing, instead of time-wasting on social media platforms or whatever (trust me, I know about that, I spend way too much time on it myself… it’s so addictive…)

Saturn is on a degree that speaks about some wanting to get ahead with their lives while others just want to argue (of course, we can be doing both at the same time). Saturn is on Capricorn 5: INDIANS – SOME ROWING A CANOE WHILE OTHERS ARE DANCING A WAR DANCE. This is an interesting degree in that we may all be in the same boat, but, some are rowing while others are stirring things up. BTW, I see the spiritual dimension of a ‘war dance’, but, in everyday life, it can show that some are more interested in causing disruptions and arguments than actually accomplishing anything. This can lead us to wonder where we’re going and where this is all going to end up.

Pluto is on Capricorn 20: A HIDDEN CHOIR SINGING DURING A RELIGIOUS SERVICE. Pluto here is suggesting that we listen to our ‘better angels’, to the more balanced and spiritual messages and intuitions that are coming through. Even if we feel a little drowned-out by disruptive noise, we can do well to tune into our inner messages and guidance.

Eclipses are always super-charged events, and, they always impact us in ways that we might not anticipate or realise, I hope it’s a very rewarding and wonderful time for you. It certainly is likely to be meaningful.

There’s always more to say, but, you can find some added information by looking at the Sabian Symbol placements below.

The full Moon each month marks a time of heightened energies and events. It often marks the culmination of the energies released at the new Moon. Emotions can be supercharged as the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the zodiac and illumination is increased – it’s like we can see in the dark – and we can be hyper-aware as well as being hyper-awake. The effects of a full Moon can be major or minor, depending on how they interact with your own chart. Sometimes, realisations or events that are unleashed, or unlocked, can stretch their meaning months into the future. A lot can be learned at the time of the full Moon and whether it’s lunacy or illumination, or a combination of both, there’s magic unleashed with every full Moon.

The Full Moon is on Leo 12: AN EVENING LAWN PARTY OF ADULTS The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom– the following is my interpretation from my book –

Commentary: ‘An Evening Garden Party of Adults’ is an image of people relaxing, chatting and getting to know each other. Enjoying time spent with friends, family or neighbors can bring new depths to relationships and community. It can also lead to meeting new people and the networking of ideas. Gossip often comes up at ‘An Evening Garden Party’. People talk about each other, swapping tales of their own and other people’s lives. As long as it is not harmful or malicious, gossip can be a valuable part of the weaving of society. Talking together about one’s life, each other and, indeed, those not present, can lead to a deeper understanding of our lives and provides the chance to catch up on what people have been doing. Socializing and chatting is part of the way we keep in contact with the news of the day.

Oracle: This Symbol signifies taking a much-needed break from work. Give the rigors of your work routine a rest. Relaxation amongst your peers, where there is no need for exuberant pretense, can do nothing but good. Remember to live in the moment, enjoying this time out from care and trouble. It’s important to give time and energy to your social life as it can refresh you and lead to new friendships and contacts. However, too much ambition, or trying to compete with others on a social level can make it hard to relax and truly enjoy yourself and can alienate others. If you don’t feel that you fit in with the group, remain composed and wait it out. You may have to put on a socially acceptable or brave face and go along with whatever’s expected. If this is the case, fulfill your role for the time being. It won’t be long before you’re back in your own space again. Whatever, fill your cup, have a bite to eat and relax with friends.

Keywords: Rising above superficiality into receptivity and peace with others. People mixing in a social setting. Sedate and conservative celebrations. Formal events vs. impromptu gatherings. Gossip. Leisure time. Political correctness. Enjoying socializing. Being a good conversationalist. Drinks and food on platters. Knowing who to invite.

The Caution: A sense of superficiality where things are known but not said out loud. Appearance and social standing taking on too much importance. Ignoring real and immediate issues. Not knowing how to act with the “adults”. Malicious gossip. Having to face those you don’t want to see. Getting drunk and “out of bounds”. False fronts.

The Karmic Degree for the full Moon is Leo 11: CHILDREN ON A SWING IN THE SAFETY OF A HUGE OAK TREE

This Symbol shows the need, or the desire, to be protected, to have a safe, fun place to be and live where life is carefree and to be enjoyed. It is easier to relax into carefree, child-like play when your protection, safety and security are ensured. You may feel like some relief from responsibility, or you may provide this umbrella of protection for others. There is a need to be safe in the knowledge that everything will remain secure. It is good to keep in touch with the innocence and openness of youthful attitudes. Oak trees infer enormous inner strength, dependability and protection from the harsh realities of life.

Keywords: Creativity in safe surroundings. Being protected and privileged. Social security and other forms of governmental protection. Pensions. Agencies that bring food, education and basic needs to children in difficult circumstances. Children, trees, grass, swings, parks. Amusement parks. Childhood memories. Climbing trees. Spontaneous activity. Humanitarian agencies. Security coming through family. Safe confines.

The Caution: Expecting others to take all the responsibility while one just plays. Children not being looked after. Disadvantaged people. Desertion by government and big business. Not wanting to grow up. Always relying on others to provide fun, safety or shelter.

The Quest Degree for the full Moon is Leo 13: AN OLD SEA CAPTAIN ROCKING ON THE PORCH OF HIS COTTAGE

This Symbol shows the need for quiet reflection, to look back at past experiences, especially those times that were threatening or exhausting in some way. Take some time for a little solitude and contemplate the overall picture of your life. You may want to read, go over past memories, indeed, write your memoirs. When back into the business of life you will be refreshed and have a better idea of how you fit in and what you want to achieve. Symbol can sometimes indicate wanting to retire and withdraw from life too much so that it interferes with the ability to make a living or feel like contributing to society.

Keywords: Retreating into one’s self. Reflecting. Quiet confidence. Knowing that one can conquer life’s storms and come out wiser. Observing life from afar. Wanting to opt out. Retirement, pensions and pension plans. Being dismissed from one’s job. Redundancy. The story of one’s life. Memoirs. Rocking chairs and verandahs. Contemplation. Gardening. Longing for calmer days. Letters, diaries, photographs. Houses, cottages. Taking a break from society.

The Caution: Ignoring what is happening in favor of memories. Inability to get going. Disconnecting from reality. Feeling lazy. The world owes you a living. Feeling jaded and worn out. Envying those that are ‘”out there’” in the world. Wanting others to look after you. Complacency. Giving in and giving up. Hangovers. Forgetfulness. Feeling impotent. Being uninvolved. Opting out before one’s time.

The Moon symbolizes: Emotions, moods, mother, family, clan, domestic issues, relationship to home and country. Feelings, sentiments, nourishment, emotional nurturing, monkey chatter mind, lunar and menstrual cycles, clarity of emotions or lunacy. Female energy – yours and others.

The Sun is on Aquarius 12: PEOPLE ON A VAST STAIRCASE, GRADUATED UPWARDS

This shows being able to interact with others and integrate various levels of experience, life or people, and not feel compromised by what rung, or level, you’re at in your own life. The “Vast Staircase” can show the ladder that one must climb, socially, spiritually, emotionally – even physically. Going up that staircase, one begins to feel more empowered, more accomplished, more ‘there’. However, being on a lower rung may cause a feeling of compromise. Don’t concern yourself with who’s in front or behind. It is of little true consequence. Accept your position, but strive ever upwards. Trust that you and yours are heading in the right direction.

Keywords: Observing life from different levels. Social gradations and graduations. Working class to aristocracy. Orders from above, in any sense of the meaning. Waiting for one’s turn at the top. Politics. Big business. Multilevel marketing. Gradual upward climbs. Competitiveness. Stairs and ladders. Taking life step by step. Admiring success. Promotions. Corporate ladders.

The Caution: Nervous worry about social position. Snobbery because of monetary, intellectual or social status. Can imply class, creed or racial prejudice. Climbing the ladder of success without care for those who are supplanted. Unsafe heights. Falling from grace. Denigrating or undermining others. Snakes and ladders. Rarefied atmospheres.

The Karmic Degree for the Sun is Aquarius 11: DURING A SILENT HOUR, A PERSON RECEIVES A NEW INSPIRATION WHICH MAY CHANGE THEIR LIFE

This speaks of noticing those moments of “Inspiration” that come through you and act to move, inspire, propel or goad you into changing your life. Taking time out, having a “Silent Hour”, even if it’s just five minutes, can regularly bring you new ideas, solutions and breakthroughs. You could find that despite racking your brain there has been no rational guidance. Slowing down and opening up to the message of your inner inspiration can bring huge shifts in your life. The rational mind can be noisy and interfere with the flow of intuition. A new inspiration is coming, one that may change your life. Be still and listen! rnWelling creative power. Inspiration = breathing in the spirit. Coming to terms with reality. Spiritual awakenings. Quiet moments. Meditation. Intuitive awareness. U-turns.

Keywords: Welling creative power. Inspiration = breathing in the spirit. Coming to terms with one’s reality. Visionary people and events. Being reborn. Spiritual awakenings. Meditation and reflective thought. Intuitive awareness rising up into conscious awareness. Spending time alone, thinking. Contemplation. Reversals. Flashes of insight.

The Caution: Exclusion of others. Obsession with one’s objectives. Being a hermit. Hearing voices. Feeling trapped. Shooting off in all directions. Dropping things without resolution. Cutting off from life. Constantly changing directions. Regretting the past. Not moving on.

The Quest Degree for the Sun is Aquarius 13: A BAROMETER

This Symbol shows measuring what’s going on in the atmosphere, whether it be physical, emotional, spiritual or on an etheric level. You could feel rather sensitive to changes or shifts going on around you and you may pick them up more than most. Not only shifts in “Barometric” pressure, but shifts in temperature and mood can be picked up, almost like you have antennae. You may need to plan for future action, and to know what to expect or at least anticipate. You will find in your own sensitivity the instrument that perceives the possibilities of upcoming events. You may be a “translator” for others, bearing useful messages and being able to read the environment.

Keywords: Staying ahead of the weather. Feeling changes ahead of time. Measured responses. Measurements. Perceiving subtle changes. Insight. Indicators. Knowing when rain or storms are coming. Stilling one’s self for answers. Talking about the weather. Putting out one’s feelers. Anticipating shifts. Opinion polls. Anticipating what’s going to happen. Being on guard for inclement weather.

The Caution: Fear of change. Constant looking to fashions or fads. Not knowing how to react because of shifts in the atmosphere. Watching and waiting to see how other people act, seemingly with no will of one’s own. Being changeable. Having no anchor. Constant looking. Not being able to read the environment accurately.

The Sun symbolizes: One’s core center, spirit, heart, issues to do with father, men, self, ego, your male side. How you radiate your sense of being. What others see, how you are recognized or remembered, sense of identity and connection with male energy – yours and others.

Mercury is on Capricorn 30: DIRECTORS OF A LARGE FIRM MEET IN SECRET CONFERENCE – this Symbol has also been written as A SECRET MEETING OF MEN RESPONSIBLE FOR WORLD DECISIONS

This Symbol shows meeting with others in order to lay out plans; to have “Secret” meetings of people, people that are often VIP’s in some way or, at least, in charge of decisions or governments or empires. The “Directors” meet, they conference or just conference call, exchange views, ideas, gossip. There may be decisions to be made or plans to be laid out. Do you make all your decisions on your own, or do you need help? You can often call on the relevant knowledgeable friends or authorities, as you’re bound to know them or how to meet them, and you’ll iron out the details. Sometimes, however, you may feel shut out by those “in charge”.

Keywords: Sharing innermost secrets. Confidential information. Masterly control. Big guys calling the shots. Being too busy to see people of “lesser” importance in your life. Rationing time. Governments and secrets. Spies. Privy Councils. Planning and plotting. Having a say in things. Doors. Whispers. Records of meetings. Important meetings. Boards of directors and secretaries. Conspiracies.

The Caution: Excluding some. Exploiting people or situations. Elitism. Being controlled by those above. Decisions made behind closed doors. Dark rooms and huddled people talking. Concealing the truth from others. Cliques and committees. Suspicions of motives.

The Karmic Degree for Mercury is Capricorn 29: A WOMAN READING TEA LEAVES

This Symbol shows being able to see things that others miss or using the intuition in order to receive the gifts that divination can bring. While others just see something simple like a tea cup, you can have the ability to weave a story for yourself and others about how life will, or can, be. One has to put aside skepticism and embrace trust and intuitive knowing in order to be able to listen to the messages that are around. Be open to seeing meaning through the catalyst of the simplest of everyday events. You will receive messages, if you are open to ‘seeing’ the signs. You may have to deal with skeptical people.

Keywords: Symbolism opening pathways to the spiritual center. Seeing the signs. Seeing signatures in small things that others miss. Intuition and clairvoyance. Creative visualization. Tea leaves and coffee grinds. Non verbal cues. Rituals. Tea and sympathy. Fathoming the depths of simple things. Predicting the future. Seeking guidance and changes of fortune.

The Caution: Reliance on superstition or esoteric advice. Constantly seeking assurance. Taking things literally, not symbolically. Looking for answers or significance everywhere. Small rewards for talents that should be more respected.

The Quest Degree for Mercury is Aquarius 1: AN OLD ADOBE MISSION IN CALIFORNIA

This Symbol shows a safe and comfortable place to live, work, pray and practice our spiritual lives. The “Old Adobe Missions” were built with a great deal of effort, sacrifice, commitment, and a sense of community with one eye on the path and the other on the very real everyday needs of the people it serves. Sometimes we assume our beliefs are right and that others need to be shown the truth. Efforts should be turned to creating infrastructures to pursue these beliefs. Relating is not about control, but acceptance and reverence of each person’s divinity. There should be no pretensions, but a forging of links to new worlds.

Keywords: Spiritual retreats in natural surroundings. Finding new areas to work with spirit. Creating civilization out of natural elements. Hard work to create places of sanctuary and learning. Places once revered now tourist attractions. Forging links to new worlds. Missions and missionaries. Bringing faith to the “new world”. Brotherhoods. Places that house and protect.

The Caution: Dogmatism. Pushing beliefs and ideas on others. Believing one’s spiritual and religious beliefs contain all the answers. Taking over others’ lives. Moving in and taking control. Monuments to the past sagging and fading. People moving in on others. Cults. Indoctrination.

Mercury symbolizes: Mind, thought, communication, memory, expression, intelligence. News, exchanges, chatting, conversations, short journeys, connections with others, telephones, emails, siblings, neighbors, the reasoning mind. Day-to-day activities. Cars, keys, small animals.

Venus is on Aquarius 17: A WATCHDOG STANDING GUARD, PROTECTING HIS MASTER AND HIS POSSESSIONS

This shows “Protecting” one’s people or boundaries, to be a “Watchdog Standing Guard”. This can be a tiring responsibility, but one that has you feeling you belong and contribute to the safety and wellbeing of your loved ones, or perhaps those you work for. If not handled well, you may feel unsafe at times, needing to be alert to signs of trouble. This can be a good thing, but it can lead to paranoid behavior where you can’t relax. Enlisting the support of trusted and loyal supporters may help, but you probably also need some self assurance. Watch out for false feelings of intrusion or betrayal.

Keywords: Guardianship. Things that stand guard and protect. Being on the alert against invasion or other trouble. Loyalty, possessiveness. Jealousy. The worry of loss. Alarm and security systems. Locks. Watchdogs. Being afraid of intrusion. Survival instincts. Bouncers and musclemen. Security guards. Constantly checking up. Sudden responses. Having one’s ear to the ground for danger.

The Caution: Suspicion and paranoia that rob the joy of ownership. Being unable to let down one’s guard because of the possibility of invasion or attack. Feelings of being exposed. Possible betrayal. Greed. Envy. Lust for power. Having others do “the dirty work”. Stool pigeons. Spying. Stooges. Being the fall guy. Worrying endlessly about loss. Resenting intrusion. Jealousy.

The Karmic Degree for Venus is Aquarius 16: A BIG-BUSINESSMAN AT HIS DESK

This shows organizing things, running a business, attending to paperwork or generally being very much in charge. A “Big-Businessman” is someone who isn’t afraid to make decisions, take calculated risks, or work often and long for the rewards it brings. It is a fairly big job to organize a business or group and keeping tabs on all that’s going. Being professional and organized brings rewards. However, it can mean putting limits on your personal life. This can result in alienation – particularly if you have to stay behind or say no to outings. Are you living the way that is best for your future, your relationships and physical well being?

Keywords: Issues of being happy in one’s career. Making decisions. Management. Being in charge and in control. Calling the shots. The head rules the heart. Delegating duties or jobs. Economic rationalism. Sorting paperwork. Corporations. Keeping a diary. Striking a balance between having a life and doing all that needs to be done. Desks, telephones, computers, faxes, etc. Details and more details.

The Caution: Taking advantage. Bossing others. Shoving people around. Getting depressed about work. Always being “on the job”. Talking about money and business constantly. Greediness. Exploiting people and events for personal gain. Having difficulty retiring. The removal of the “little people”. Not doing the paperwork. Brushes with the law.

The Quest Degree for Venus is Aquarius 18: A MAN BEING UNMASKED AT A MASQUERADE

This shows being able to see through others; to be able to “Unmask” people, to reveal one’s self or hide away when it’s needed. It seems that someone is having their mask stripped away; they’re no longer able to “Masquerade”, they are revealing themselves, who they are and possibly their intentions. Secret motives may have a purpose at the time they are concealed, but they almost invariably become known. You may find that you, or someone else, finds themselves in this situation. Difficulties and embarrassment that can arise, but staying true is the important thing. There may be a need to look after your reputation.

Keywords: Secret motives exposed. Having to face one’s self. Facing the truth about another. Coming to terms with judgments about one’s true worth. Owning up to who one truly is. Being able to see through characters and trickery. Wearing a ‘Mask’ that suits the situation. Insights into people. Dropping pretense. Stripping away cover-ups. Aliases. Finding or revealing one’s true self. The desire for authenticity.

The Caution: Detrimentally revealing yourself too quickly or too early. Being found out to be a fraud. Finding answers that aren’t welcome. Layers of deception discovered. Charades, pretense and ploys to manipulate. Lies. Assumed identities.

Venus symbolizes: Relatedness, cooperation, what attracts you. The experience of sweetness, beauty or delight. Social interactions, love, friends, how you reach out to people. Feminine persona, relationship with mother and females. Money, possessions, sense of values.

Mars is on Sagittarius 4: A LITTLE CHILD LEARNING TO WALK WITH THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF PARENTS

This Symbol implies the necessity of those older to be teachers, exemplars or guides to the younger or less experienced. The “Child” needs the “Encouragement” of “Parents” in order to feel supported or guided. At times, you are likely to fulfill the roles of child or parent to others. You may be moving into new phases of learning that, despite all your previous experience, are surprisingly difficult. Patience and step-by-step progress is needed, as is a guiding hand and a kind word or two. Acting like one is incompetent in order to draw sympathy and/or help. Meddling and “assisting” when one should be on the sidelines, encouraging. You may, at times, feel that you are the one that needs to be protected or given shelter or in need of people declaring a ceasefire and amnesty so people can come out into the open and not be afraid to show their true selves. Of course, there is a need for an outlet for aggressive emotions every now and then. Doing so in groups gives this outlet, such as “Shooting Wild Ducks” some sense of acceptability. However, picking on the undefended or smaller is not right, no matter what the terms.

Sometimes we’re just rowing our boat and someone wants to upset it, or, they are in our environment trying to drum up trouble or antagonize others. This shows the choice: row the boat or be on the defensive. Someone may solve situations with aggression. However, at the right time, showing one’s strength can work in your favor. People being critical of one another can lead to better behavior, better performances or the like, or it can lead to feeling judged, violated and intruded upon.
