If you are losing your leisure, look out! You are losing your soul. Logan Pearsall Smith

Apologies for the lateness of this newsletter. I would like to have had this out days ago, but, well, these newsletters take me about one and a half days to put together – it’s actually way too labor intensive. I’ll have to figure out another way of doing them! Please do understand, though, that, just because the new Moon happened yesterday, that doesn’t mean that this energy finishes. A new or full Moon will have effects and ramifications into the future, sometimes for months and months, depending on what events were happening around that time. I am going to make this newsletter a little shorter than usual in order to get it out. I also have a very exciting journey that I’m going on for a few months in two week’s time. More on that in a separate mailing. I am rather amused to notice that, as I’m writing this, two newsletters that I usually get ahead of the new or full moon from other astrologers have just come in. Perhaps we were all feeling it this last weekend… this Mars/Uranus square, and, Mars/Mercury/Uranus as well! It’s been a hectic few weeks!
May’s new Moon in Taurus occurs on May 15. This is a very interesting, and, somewhat hectic time as we have Uranus going into Taurus, where it will stay except for a brief sojourn back into Aries rather early on, until April 2026. So, we are changing gears, at least in some measure. What will come from this period will be interesting to observe, and, the actual events will not be entirely obvious until we’re well into that time period, but, it seems clear that a lot of us will be wanting to ‘lighten our load’, to throw out things, to feel lighter and freer. Also, crypto currencies could take more and more of a hold on our monetary systems. Interest rates will be on the move, I imagine, it would be highly unlikely that they will stay at their current record lows for much longer.
The biggest aspect at this new Moon, as Uranus enters Taurus, is Mars and Uranus in a tight square smack on this new Moon. This would explain what has happened in Israel with the opening of the new US Embassy in Jerusalem. Mars is on Capricorn 30: A SECRET MEETING OF MEN RESPONSIBLE FOR WORLD AFFAIRS, and, Uranus is on Aries 30: A DUCKPOND AND IT’S BROOD.
So, now, Uranus goes into Taurus, and, the first degree of Taurus is Taurus 1: A CLEAR MOUNTAIN STREAM FLOWS STEADILY DOWNSTREAM. It seems that the message from Uranus is to pick our course and to stick with it. We might have detours, or, obstacles to get around, but, if we had in the general direction of our desires and dreams, we are very likely to meet up with those who share the same ideals, and, a stream can become a river… So, persistence is probably the biggest motivator and generator of energies behind us.
A lovely aspect of this new Moon is the Jupiter/Neptune trine in water signs. Jupiter in Scorpio trines Neptune in Pisces. So, it’s through our ideals, or belief in the goodness of life, our belief in ourselves, our ability to visualise and ‘see’ what we want to see in the world, and, in our own lives, that we can envision better days, better outcomes, safer and more secure realities. This is a lovely trine, and, with Jupiter retrograding (and, therefore moving slowly), and, Neptune going stationary retrograde (and, therefore moving very slowly), we will have this trine for some time. Capitalise on it by watching your thoughts, your ideas, your responses. It’s by fashioning our thoughts to what we want that we can fashion our worlds in alignment with our true values and desires.
We also have some strong and promising trines between this new Moon and Mars and Pluto, and, this can boost us up and out of any feelings of being weighed down or not listened to, or, suppressed. It’s by conscious intention that we can move more towards our objectives. That, and, persistence!
There’s always more to say, but, you can find some added information by looking at the Sabian Symbol placements below.

The new Moon each month marks a time of new beginnings and realisations. It’s like a birth after a time of gestation or being ‘in the womb’. Here, the light begins to return and we can see new beginnings and possibilities. A new Moon means that the Sun and the Moon are both together – bringing a synergy of their energies together. The new Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions for the future. This period is wonderful for planting seeds of whatever kind. What do you want to manifest in your future? Whether you write it down, sing about it or just hold the thought forms in your mind, doing this at the new Moon can realise some fabulous results around the things that you want to draw into your life
New Moon: May 15, 2018 11:47 am GMT
The new Moon is on Taurus 25: A LARGE WELL-KEPT PUBLIC PARK – the following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom –
Commentary: ‘A Large Public Park’ implies a big area of land that has been kept aside from development for the enjoyment of the ‘Public’. The fact that it is ‘Well-Kept’ shows that the ‘Park’ has gardens and public amenities, is well looked after and clean of mess and rubbish. People are able to meet together, play ball, lie in the sun and, perhaps, walk their dog in safety. There’s lots of room to move and things are in their rightful place. In many ways our society is a ‘Public Park’ and we each play a part in its beauty and success, whether our contribution is by working on the gardens or enjoying the amenities.
Oracle: You are part of something important, but you are only a part. It is when everyone works together that we can create a useful and lasting result that will be of benefit to the whole community. However, in a controlled and interdependent situation there can be the perception of a lack of privacy and the inability to get completely away from others. Hence, you may need to be mindful of the fact that other people can always see what you are doing. The best thing is to work together to create the cooperation and consideration that will afford privacy for all areas of life. In this situation it is not only a right, but also a well-earned reward. ‘Parks’ are for recreation, but are you aware of what recreation means to you? Are you in a balanced state of work and play? Your leisure time needs to be tended to and organized, as much as your work life. However, a lot of maintenance may be required just to keep the situation under control. Also, others may have a vested interest in taking over the space or using it for something that wasn’t intended, such as property development. Every community needs an area for recreation and enjoyment and it should be protected, nourished and looked after.
Keywords: Paying attention to appearances. People living in peace. Space for everyone. People taking to the streets. Park benches, swings, slippery dips and sandpits. Charities and their work. Maintaining order. Gardens and gardening. Town planning. Work of the few for the pleasure of the many. Appearances kept immaculate. Golf and other sports. Picnics. Eating alfresco. Meeting others out in the open. Large plots of land. Acreage. Subdividing and development. Suburbia.
The Caution: Difficulty in finding privacy. People continually coming by. Having so much to look after without much help. Public possessions being sold off for the benefit of a few. Mugging and robberies. Littering and graffiti.
The Karmic Degree for the Moon is Taurus 24: AN INDIAN WARRIOR RIDING FIERCELY WITH HUMAN SCALPS HANGING AT HIS BELT
This Symbol shows the issue of people taking what is theirs by right or by might. It also shows the ability to be able to be recognized for abilities as a successful leader who is prepared to put themselves at risk to be successful. The risks taken are marked by rewards that are admired and respected, with a place in society marked by power and status. There’s a need for caution here, though, as the “us or them” mentality can lead to problems on every level. Be strong and commanding, but don’t take advantage of others or allow them to take advantage of you as it could lead to chain reactions of tit for tat mentality.
Keywords: Race wars. Claiming one’s soil. Trophies of conquest. Aggression. Basic instincts. Territoriality. Chain reactions. Tit-for-tat. Competitive natures. Risks for the clan or group. Trophies, medals and diplomas. Striving for recognition and respect, deserved or not. Blood and sacrifice. Tribes mourning their losses. Ritualistic behaviors. Marking victories. War crimes. The Quest Degree for the Moon is Taurus 26: A SPANIARD SERENADING HIS SENORITA
This Symbol speaks of being able to use one’s voice, words, songs, poetry and culture to sway the minds and hearts of others. One can sway others to achieve a desire result. There is no guarantee of total success, but you must act if you want any chance of succeeding and you need to put your heart and soul into the performance. The worst that could be damaged is a little ego, so think positively and play your role with enthusiasm and passion. Music can lift the spirits and words of poetry and love can be healing. Shared feelings, love or passion may result.

Mercury is on Taurus 4: THE POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
This Symbol speaks about connecting your inner thoughts with your rational conscious mind so you can communicate the feelings you wish to share. Like the ‘Rainbow’, this is not really about the elusive ‘Pot of Gold’ at its end, but rather it speaks of the wonder the rainbow creates as it links heaven and earth. Rewards will come from creative efforts built on talent and application. Good things sometimes just fall out of nowhere.
Keywords: The promise of riches, in whatever forms these may take. Creative imagination. Goals and ambitions. Alchemy. Splashes of color. Rewards contained. The search for the treasure. The Karmic Degree for Mercury is Taurus 3: NATURAL STEPS UP TO A LAWN BLOOMING WITH CLOVER
This Symbol often shows comfort, luxury, riches, beauty and the good things in life. It implies that a time of fulfillment is close by, but there often is still some small effort to be made in that one has to take the simple steps towards inviting wonderful things into your life. Keep going the way you are, following your natural intuition, and you will find the peace you have in sight. Just be aware not to become complacent or lazy as doing nothing and not putting any effort in could lead to great possibilities slipping away.
Keywords: Hopefulness. Inspirational possibilities. Gradually enlarging one’s vision. Harmony. Seasonal changes. Running around on grass. Bare feet. The beauty of greenery and flowers. Stability on the path. Steps that invite one on to bigger and better things. Abundance, nourishment. Making small efforts that can lead to large returns. Places to spread out and relax. Having plenty of room to move. Gardens and parks.
The Caution: Looking for the easy way out. Not making the effort to find what is just a few steps away. Being lazy when one should be going for the objective. Temporary success. Expecting everything to be laid out before you. Weeds. Unkempt lawns. Neglected land.
The Quest Degree for Mercury is Taurus 5: A YOUTHFUL WIDOW, FRESH AND SOUL-CLEANSED FROM GRIEF, KNEELS AT AN OPEN GRAVE TO RECEIVE THE SECRET OF ETERNAL LIFE
This Symbol speaks of things from the past that sometimes block progress in the present or for the future. Don’t let loss beckon you to give up and throw everything away. There must always be a time to grieve, but what is lost is lost and cannot be regained by losing yourself. Know when it’s time to fill in the grave and let go, whether it’s literally letting go of people who have passed away or have disappeared from your life, in order to move on. Gather up your energies and move towards new objectives letting go of the old.
Keywords: Gradual realization of the illusion of matter. Letting go of that which no longer works. Purging and burning the past. Giving up past grievances. The passage of grief. Receiving the gifts that loss and separation can bring through time. Grief, divorce, loss. Redundancies. Near-death experiences. Inheritances.
The Caution: Wasting time staring at lost opportunities. Grudges and bad feelings that last much longer than needed. Staring at issues of loss and death. War and its horrors. The feeling that one has no future. People or events that just won’t leave one’s memory. Hanging on for fear of the future. Empty legacies.
Mercury symbolizes: Mind, thought, communication, memory, expression, intelligence. News, exchanges, chatting, conversations, short journeys, connections with others, telephones, emails, siblings, neighbors, the reasoning mind. Day-to-day activities. Cars, keys, small animals.
Venus is on Gemini 26: WINTER FROST IN THE WOODS
This Symbol shows things in a dormant or hibernation stage. There has been a time of fruitfulness which has now passed; this is rather a time or situation of withdrawal and inner growth. However, once again, a time of new developments and fresh growth is surely coming. It seems that there is no point trying to force growth as it may not be possible now. It is wiser to prepare for more vibrant and expansive times by using times of dormant activity to ensure that you get rest, get organised or recharge your batteries. Whilst not much seems to be going on, nature is ensuring that energy is being used to reinforce the roots of things, ready for the coming period of growth and abundance.
Keywords: The calm before the dawn. The silence inherent in cold, barren times. Barren and cold feelings. Refrigeration and freezing. Serenity. Surviving cold conditions. Feeling like one’s on the outside. Being lost in the wilderness. Beautiful surrounds. Lack of fertility. Things freezing up. The need to rug up. Hibernation. Icicles. Battling through hard times. Immobility. Not knowing where to find warmth or nourishment. Losing faith. Infertility. Frigid responses. Stagnation. Loss of love and light. Stunted growth.
The Karmic Degree for Venus is Gemini 25: A GARDENER TRIMMING LARGE PALM TREES
This Symbol shows a clearing away of the garbage, impediments or evidence of the past in order to give a fresh, clean image. Getting in with the gloves and the tools in order to clear up and clean out can bring order and neatness to your environment. However, sometimes we like to have our past experiences, or wounds, on display, be they good or bad. This can bring admiration or, more likely, sympathy. But in reality, it’s best to cut out what’s not needed or ineffective in your life as it leaves a space for better and fresher things to come along. Make a special effort to make things look their best, even if this leaves them somewhat without protection from lower, more basic elements.
Keywords: Trimming off nonessentials to get to the bare reality. Caring for one’s possessions. Doing the work simply because it needs to be done. Getting rid of rubbish. Gardening and landscaping. Editing words, thoughts, emotions – superfluous things. Weeding out the unnecessary. Looking after cosmetic appearances. Tidying up. Tools. Trips to the dump.
The Caution: Doing the work because of routine, rather than need. Spending time doing things because of appearances. Neglecting the real issues at hand, which may include good nourishment, watering, and caring for physical realities. Doing menial jobs when one could be doing much bigger better ones. Not knowing when to stop. Leaving a mess.
The Quest Degree for Venus is Gemini 27: A YOUNG GYPSY, EMERGING FROM THE WOODS, GAZES AT FAR CITIES
This Symbol shows that there is a desire to attempt or achieve something that is at times far off or out of reach. It takes courage to be something of a foreigner or an outcast and still venture out into society seeking its rewards and enticements. Perhaps you don’t have financial resources or conventional accreditation behind you. It could be the constraints of friends and family that are holding you back from being able to strike out on your own. Wanting and trying to participate, even when you don’t initially command respect or acceptance, is difficult, but with perseverance, rewarding. A place to truly call home needs to be found. Set your sights high and go for it.
Keywords: Dreaming of becoming part of something far-off. Streetwise lessons. New perspectives arising from larger realities. The steps from bohemian to corporate and vice-versa. Learning about credentials, using them to advantage. Things that are far off and distant. Ambition. Prophesy, astrology and tarot. Clairvoyance. Gypsies. Leaving family. Moving out on one’s own.

Venus symbolizes: Relatedness, cooperation, what attracts you. The experience of sweetness, beauty or delight. Social interactions, love, friends, how you reach out to people. Feminine persona, relationship with mother and females. Money, possessions, sense of values.

The “Directors” meet, they conference or just conference call, exchange views, ideas, gossip. There may be decisions to be made or plans to be laid out. Do you make all your decisions on your own, or do you need help? Sometimes, however, you may feel shut out by those “in charge”.

The Karmic Degree for Mars is Capricorn 29: A WOMAN READING TEA LEAVES
This Symbol shows being able to see things that others miss or using the intuition in order to receive the gifts that divination can bring. While others just see something simple like a tea cup, you can have the ability to weave a story for yourself and others about how life will, or can, be. One has to put aside skepticism and embrace trust and intuitive knowing in order to be able to listen to the messages that are around. Be open to seeing meaning through the catalyst of the simplest of everyday events. You will receive messages, if you are open to ‘seeing’ the signs. You may have to deal with skeptical people.
Keywords: Symbolism opening pathways to the spiritual center. Seeing the signs. Seeing signatures in small things that others miss. Intuition and clairvoyance. Creative visualization. Tea leaves and coffee grinds. Non verbal cues. Rituals. Tea and sympathy. Fathoming the depths of simple things. Predicting the future. Seeking guidance and changes of fortune.
The Caution: Reliance on superstition or esoteric advice. Constantly seeking assurance. Taking things literally, not symbolically. Looking for answers or significance everywhere. Small rewards for talents that should be more respected.
The Quest Degree for Mars is Aquarius 1: AN OLD ADOBE MISSION IN CALIFORNIA
This Symbol shows a safe and comfortable place to live, work, pray and practice our spiritual lives. The “Old Adobe Missions” were built with a great deal of effort, sacrifice, commitment, and a sense of community with one eye on the path and the other on the very real everyday needs of the people it serves. Sometimes we assume our beliefs are right and that others need to be shown the truth. Efforts should be turned to creating infrastructures to pursue these beliefs. Relating is not about control, but acceptance and reverence of each person’s divinity. There should be no pretensions, but a forging of links to new worlds.
Keywords: Spiritual retreats in natural surroundings. Finding new areas to work with spirit. Creating civilization out of natural elements. Hard work to create places of sanctuary and learning. Places once revered now tourist attractions. Forging links to new worlds. Missions and missionaries. Bringing faith to the “new world”. Brotherhoods. Places that house and protect.

It speaks of the ability to transform your life in a step-by-step manner, taking seasonal conditions and age into account. It also shows a quiet, reflective nature and a need, or the desire, to take time off to be in peaceful surroundings – to indulge in nature and peace and quiet for contemplation and meditation. There’s a feeling of knowing that the preparation for change has resulted from the fruits of your labor. Be aware of what you harvest or what the harvest might be. The Karmic Degree for Jupiter retrograde is Scorpio 17: A WOMAN, FILLED WITH HER OWN SPIRIT, IS THE FATHER OF HER OWN CHILD
This shows the ability, or the need, to be totally self-sufficient and responsible for one’s life. Often, there’s the issue of single parenthood, or the sense of having to raise yourself without too much input from others, or, coming from a broken family where someone had to take on the role of both mother and father. It can show someone that doesn’t require assistance for even the most complicated tasks, or you feel you can’t ask; perhaps there’s no one to ask or you feel that others couldn’t do anything as well as you. We are all blessed with individual qualities and it is the combination with other individuals that creates greater balance and depth.

The Quest Degree for Jupiter retrograde is Scorpio 19: A PARROT LISTENING AND THEN TALKING, REPEATS A CONVERSATION HE HAS OVERHEARD
This Symbol infers some level of spiritual channeling or the hearing and passing on of messages. Birds symbolize spiritual forces and “Parrots” symbolize the ability to be able to give voice to messages. This Symbol indicates that someone who is receptive to thoughts and ideas can process information to the point where it becomes their own, although they may really be a channel or a translator rather than an originator of these messages or realizations. Perhaps there is a need integrate new understandings into your consciousness, to make a belief system or a code of living truly your own with your own stamp of individuality on it.

Saturn is retrograde on Capricorn 9: AN ANGEL COMES CARRYING A HARP
This degree shows being able to care for others – being there when they need it. It also shows that “Angels” will come when you call on them, when you’re most in need yourself. You may be able to ‘tune in’ and radiate harmony around you, inspiring confidence and joy. This pictures care, generosity and a fulfilled selfhood. Inspiring people to do their best can bring rewards to all concerned. The trick with this degree can be sorting out whether to trust the ‘tune’ that others sometimes play. Following someone for the wrong reasons can just lead you astray.

The Karmic Degree for Saturn is Capricorn 8: BIRDS IN THE HOUSE SINGING HAPPILY
This degree shows the spreading of joy, happiness and laughter to those around you. It also shows that music can lighten people’s spirits. Further, thinking positive thoughts, being loving and accepting of others are the hallmarks of this degree. Listening to the songs of birds can be rather magical and can bring spiritual messages. By expressing your pleasure you can lift the feelings of others and they will most likely join in the chorus, in some way. Even though there are a number of social rules to follow, that shouldn’t bother you. This is a sign of sharing good feelings and happiness with all who enter your sphere of operations.

Looking only at the difficulties one faces. Feeling caged in. Unable to fly when and where one wants to. Loneliness. Feeling abandoned by the good things.
The Quest Degree for Saturn is Capricorn 10: AN ALBATROSS FEEDING FROM THE HAND OF A SAILOR
This degree shows the overcoming of fears, superstitions or limiting thoughts. One of the ways of overcoming fears is through gentleness and a readiness to let down your guard and interact with people or animals without feeling afraid or vulnerable. Putting up a wall between you and other living things can cause alienation or the loss of the rewards that can come from truly relating. Even seemingly natural ‘enemies’ can realize the possibility of interaction and letting go of fear may be necessary. You may feel that you can deal with someone with whom you have usually kept your distance – possibly even help each other.
Keywords: Feeding one’s higher nature with good nourishment. Banishing worries, so that one can fly ever higher. Overcoming superstitions or beliefs. This Symbol speaks of families, being with and caring for youngsters, and caring for each other. Sometimes, there can be a feeling of being restricted and bound in by reality, but then there’s often also a feeling of being safe. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the comforting things around us. Finding friends or family that enrich our life can lead to a sense of community, belonging and love. Although you may sometimes wish for more exciting adventures – it feels good to have a place to hang one’s hat and people and a place to call one’s own.
Keywords: Nurturing family. Contentment. Realizing limitations. Reliability. The problems and joys in the responsibilities of having a brood to look after. Finding friends or family that enrich one’s life. Psychoanalysis. Family patterns and analysis. Family support. The family sphere. Feeling safe in one’s environs. Being the mother duck. It doesn’t matter if things are going well or not, if you are in tune with the inner voice, this can show an inner accord with your path. Savor the lessons that come and know that everything happens in its own time and you’ll grow in wisdom. ‘The Music of the Spheres’ can show attuning to the messages of astrology, numerology, mathematics and science.
