Defusing The Detonators: October’s Aries Full Moon

In Lunar Stories by Lynda Hill

The Atom Bomb!Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten. Buddha

How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it. Marcus Aurelius

“I lose my temper, but it’s all over in a minute,” said the student. “So is the hydrogen bomb,” I replied. “But think of the damage it produces!” George Sweeting

I do not like this word “bomb.” It is not a bomb. It is a device that is exploding. Jacques le Blanc—French ambassador to New Zealand on Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior bombing.

As in an explosion, I would erupt with all the wonderful things I saw and understood in this world. Boris Pasternak

When the habitually even-tempered suddenly fly into a passion, that explosion is apt to be more impressive than the outburst of the most violent amongst us. Margery Allingham

October’s Aries full Moon occurs on October 5 in the U.S. and on October 6 in Australia. It is yet another very powerful lunation, and, in the chart of the full Moon set for Washington D.C., Pluto is smack on the ascendant. This can bring up issues to do with power and control, and, well, it can have people either going into more fear in the US from recent (and not so recent) events, or, it can be a sign that people can pull back their sense of personal power and bring about a transformation in their lives. Pluto plays a big part of this full Moon, as, just hours after the full Moon, the Moon squares Pluto, and, just days after, the Sun does the same. A lot of realisations and ‘aha’ moments can descend on us and we can find answers to things we’ve been wondering about.

In amongst it we are likely to be seeing more and more evidence of the abuse of power by those ‘in charge’, by those in government,October full Moon set for Washington DC by those who appear to be pulling the strings. Of course, we can avoid the ‘string pulling’ by not spending our lives playing the games that the establishment wants us to play. In other words, it’s time to emerge from the ‘coal mine’ of Libra 12 and spend more time enjoying the fruits and joy of Libra 13 (the Sun transits over these degrees at this full Moon).

The trick might very well be to stop, or, lessen the time we spend listening to the news, to stop participating in the ‘the bomb’s going to go off at any moment’ energy that’s around. As hard as it sounds (and I find it very difficult to not ‘care’ or ‘watch’ the news myself), if we’re not observing what’s going on then we can regain a sense of peace and calm. It’s been a very difficult couple of months…

Mercury is conjunct (together with) the Sun at this full Moon, and, it opposes the Moon. Mercury’s message seems to be that we can do well to see others through a more compassionate, caring and non judgemental lens. In fact, I feel that this is very important at this time. Of course, we may be observing some and seeing that we’re better off without them in our lives, in our sphere, in our attention. We may want to block them or drop them if they’re taking up too much time or emotional energy. However, it can be through softening our lens (our expectations) of others that we can see them more clearly, to see them for who they are instead of perhaps trying to mold them into who we think they should be (or, how they ‘should’ act).

A rather big, even if short-lived, planetary aspect is the current Jupiter/Uranus opposition. Jupiter and Uranus opposed on two very interesting degrees: Jupiter on Libra 28: A MAN ALONE IN DEEP GLOOM, UNNOTICED, ANGELS COMES TO HIS AID, and, Uranus is on Aries 28: A LARGE DISAPPOINTED AUDIENCE. This opposition can have many feeling like they want (or need or must find) more freedom, more liberation, the ability to come and go as they please, to not be restricted. There can be depression in these degrees, in both of them, and, it is fascinating to note that they are always opposite each other – these degrees Aries 28 and Libra 28, so, this axis can be very much about adjusting our expectations, rallying to help others who need help, letting go of preconceived ideas of how things should be rather than how they are OR it can show the need to adjust our minds to more positive outcomes and to stick with watching The Stories That We Tell Ourselves. When negative thoughts come to mind, it can be a good idea to immediately discount them with “not useful”, “not interesting”, “not now, no”… and, simply clear the mind and replacing those thoughts with more positive ones. It works well (especially as we’re talking about Jupiter and Uranus here) to just drop any negative or useless thoughts and listen to the birds, music, soothing talks on Youtube or Ted or the like.

Bringing much lighter energies is the conjunction of Venus and Mars at this full Moon as this conjunction is also in a nice trine aspect with Pluto. This can align us more with our objectives and provide us with insight into how we can improve our lives, and, in many cases, we can improve our relationships by gaining a better understanding of why some people (events, memories, commitments, etc) are the way they are.

With Venus and Mars squaring Saturn very soon after the full Moon, we can find that we, or others, make some decisions about our future, our relationships and where we’re headed. This full Moon has rather a strong message about ‘destination’ as Venus and Mars are both on Virgo 20: A CARAVAN OF CARS HEADED FOR PROMISED LANDS, and, Saturn is on Sagittarius 23: A GROUP OF IMMIGRANTS FULFILLING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING A NEW COUNTRY. Sometimes, of course, we are not free to just ‘move on’, change homes, relationships, change countries even, but, we can do it in our minds by dropping the stories that keep us stuck in a state that we might not want to continue in.

This is especially true as Saturn is in a nice trine aspect with the Moon’s north node, and, in fact, we have a lovely grand trine with the Moon’s node, Saturn and Uranus, signalling that it’s time to get ‘real’ about our objectives – time to make some decisions. Adding to this is the message from Chiron; it’s time to focus on your ‘projectives’, your objectives, the things that will make you happy. Chiron on Pisces 26 can signal the end of some relationships, but, more than anything, it says that it’s time to be clear-headed about the dialogue you have going about your life.

There’s more that can be said about this full Moon (there always is) but, a lot of it is covered in the list of Sabian Symbols for the planets below –

The full Moon each month marks a time of heightened energies and events. It often marks the culmination of the energies released at the new Moon. Emotions can be supercharged as the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the zodiac and illumination is increased – it’s like we can see in the dark – and we can be hyper-aware as well as being hyper-awake. The effects of a full Moon can be major or minor, depending on how they interact with your own chart. Sometimes, realisations or events that are unleashed, or unlocked, can stretch their meaning months into the future. A lot can be learned at the time of the full Moon and whether it’s lunacy or illumination, or a combination of both, there’s magic unleashed with every full Moon.

An Unexploded BombThe full Moon is on Aries 13: A BOMB WHICH FAILED TO EXPLODE IS NOW SAFELY HIDDEN FROM DISCOVERY – the following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom –

Commentary: ‘A Bomb Which Failed to Explode’ shows potentially explosive energies are around which haven’t gone off yet that may now be ‘Safely’ defused. Things are “safe” from detection, but dangerous elements are possibly still within. Handling ‘A Bomb’ needs to be done with extreme care and caution. That the ‘Bomb’ is ‘Now Safely Hidden From Discovery’ shows it’s still potentially explosive, but has somehow been made safe. The duration of the apparent calm depends on whether the “defusing” is done with attention to all of the details involved, no matter how small.

Oracle: Has this situation been defused or is still likely to ‘Explode’? Unexploded ‘Bombs’ can be like grenades – ready to go off at any moment, spraying everyone with shrapnel. The ‘Bomb’ is often something of an emotional nature, but can also be the suppression of a truth that has emotional side effects. There may be time to eliminate the impending explosion before it is discovered, bringing relief and release. If, however, things remain charged up, the result could be depression or internal anger and calling in the “bomb squad” may be necessary. This could mean the help of friends, family, and assistants. Calling in your own emotional, mental or spiritual ‘Bomb’ squad allows you to take control of your emotional nature. If a ‘Bomb’ is ‘Discovered’, it may point to the guilty party who will have to explain their behavior. Did you plant this ‘Bomb’ or did someone else? Take time to reflect on rash emotional decisions or situations that, if ‘Exploded’, could damage much more than was intended. Getting everything under control and safely out of the way will reveal how you can handle things. Act with integrity. People involved can learn a lot from how they react, especially when under pressure.

Keywords: Pressure valves. Getting away with something. Tantrums and frustration. Tempers that simmer. Explosive behavior. Bombs, explosions. Sudden and forceful events. Intelligence organizations, CIA, FBI, ASIO, etc. Valuable lessons of self-restraint. Relief from problems. Discharging nervous energy. Security checks. Last minute escapes.

The Caution: Suppressing stress or illness. Doing inappropriate things and thinking the secret safe. Repressing emotions. Undefined anger. Pressure cooker energy that needs to be released slowly. Explosions damaging more than expected. Activists. Deception behind one’s back. Clash of ideals. Terrorism.

The Karmic Degree for the full Moon is Aries 12: A FLOCK OF WILD GEESE

Take your cue from the wild geese. When they fly in formation, they take turns in leading the way; when one gets tired or sick, A Flight Of Wild Geese According To Kliban another takes the lead. Spread your wings and seek freedom, taking note of ‘seasonal’ variations around you. Just remember to be mindful of your responsibilities to both yourself and others. Be a part of the group by contributing and promoting the joys of togetherness while keeping a sense of independence. Geese are known for forming lifelong partnerships, so marriage or partnership may indeed be a consideration in this situation.

Keywords: Aquarian ideals of brotherhood. Attunement to planetary rhythms. Spirit liberated from matter. Wanting to take off by one’s self, but not being able to. Focused group activity and support. Group mentality, action and agreement. Intuition and telepathy. Choreography. Camaraderie. “Honking” to egg each other on. Flying in the slipstream. Responses to seasonal changes. Eve The Serpent And Death Hans Baldung 1525This Symbol shows that there is likely to be tense emotion, particularly around relationships. There can be a sense of tension, fear and passion. Situations may arise where something or someone tries to come between you and a beloved. This can be a person, an event or an emotion. Jealousy, temptation, fear, resentment or separation can arise. This Symbol shows issues to do with play, make believe, and fantasy. It is through simplicity and imagination that “Children” Soap Bubbles 2come together and enjoy play that is sometimes meaningless and yet very important to development. There is often a sense of being on the surface, not delving very deeply into life, however, there needs to be a lighthearted attitude and not always be deep and meaningful, for it will be in fleeting moments of fun that you will find pleasure, joy and companionship. There can be a feeling, however, of a lack of depth in relating – like things that are said are like cartoon captions with little substance behind them.

Keywords: Spending time being creative with children. Drama. Being carefree or superficial. Finding joy in pure abstractions. Captions in cartoons. Pollyanna attitudes that can lead to fun or nowhere. Not caring about the future, only the moment. Rediscovering the simple joys of life. Toys and playing. Soap and bubbles. Comic book heroes. The Karmic Degree for the Sun is Libra 12: MINERS ARE EMERGING FROM A DEEP COAL MINE

Coal Miners and Children Blowing Soap BubblesThis Symbol shows the need to delve deep within your self or into a subject to find answers. There is often a challenge in being able to go deeply enough to come up with what’s really sought. But it is not enough to just find the message, you need to bring what you’ve learnt into the light of day so that you can benefit from this passage and breathe more freely. It’s time to stop operating in the dark, to come to the surface and stop working so hard. There are rewards, however, from the passage into the depths; you can bring up jewels that otherwise would have remained underground, or undiscovered, or not revealed to the light.

This Symbol speaks of taking a rest when one needs to. At times, you may feel the need to take a break even though you are in Siesta the middle of a situation. To relax and recuperate will often serve to give you greater strength to complete the task at hand, also, being always on the go can be rather wearying. However, being lazy and unproductive is not the answer either. Taking a “Noon Siesta” can end up meaning taking hours and hours off work and not managing to make progress or get anywhere. Striking a balance between working too hard and not working hard enough is definitely the key.

Professor Peering Over The Top Of His Glasses At His StudentsThis Symbol speaks of the ability, or the necessity, of looking at people as humans and not through the lens of something learned from books. It’s as though the aspects of the rational mind and the intuition require a different kind of focus. Seeing people for who they really are leads to better and kinder relationships, as does dropping judgmental opinions or relying on science or complicated codes of thought for answers. You may need to interrupt your rational mind to realize your intuitive ideas. At times you may feel like the “Professor” and at other times “The Student”. Having the eyes to see each other in the true light of day is the goal.

Whether you are with someone or going alone, you are probably not really alone as there are likely to be others who share the same impulses. There can be an inclination to depression with this degree, but it seems that, particularly if faith is employed, there is always some redeeming event or someone helpful turns up and the “Gloom” is dispersed and the light returns to one’s life; there is a realization that things are getting better. It will dawn on you that you are being helped in some way; ‘Angels’ come to aid those who need them. Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance. Large Disappointed AudienceThis Symbol shows a sense of being an observer or a spectator, sometimes more than being a participant. You may have an inner critic that analyses things. In fact you might feel as though you, or someone else, have failed and left something wanting. But how much is this because too much was expected in the first place? The ‘Audience’ sometimes only remembers the last performance, so get up and try again. Be aware that you may be your own ‘audience’. Do you feel that things have or haven’t lived up to expectations? Whatever it is that you need to do, believe that it is possible and create an image in your mind and you will most likely succeed at gaining it or recovering it. Sword Swallower 1910sThis shows knowing when to stop battling in life, when to lay down one’s “Sword” and take up a higher position that reflects a more intelligent or spiritual way of being in the world. Sometimes, when reminded of the battles of the past, we are influenced towards actions that ensure peace. We are uplifted by the symbolic memory of past deeds of valor, although stings of defeat may be part of the story. You may be faced with the choice of fighting or reasoning which is confused by your lack of training or experience in the ways of “Battle”. Don’t go down with the ship. It helps to lay down one’s ‘sword’ – not in order to surrender, but to stop the ‘warring’

The Karmic Degree for Chiron retrograde is Pisces 25: THE PURGING OF THE PRIESTHOOD

We can lose sight of the ideal through our rationalizing intellect, ego and emotive passion. There is a need to cleanse and purify your life, leading to better spiritual values. Self-loving is not so vile a sin, my liege, as self-neglecting. William Shakespeare

This Symbol shows a ‘Hindu Yogi’ sitting in contemplation, concentrating on inner spiritual attainment. It implies a desire to contact spirit and to be in touch with one’s body, often through the Hindu Yogi On Bed Of Nailspractice of meditation or yoga. This is a wonderful degree of spiritual striving, however there could be a feeling of imbalance; it is as if some aspects of your life are put on hold in favor of some central issue. Being too committed to spiritual or emotional concerns can lead one to lose touch with more immediate, physical matters. However, a sense of focus on something that is very important can bring enormous rewards.

Keywords: Issues of how we view and value our bodies. Fixation on exercise and nutrition at the expense of more spiritual or emotional issues. Eating disorders. Gymnasiums and physical fitness issues. Spiritual gurus. Yoga and yogis. Living for the future. Extreme states of meditation. Total concentration. Breatharians.

The Caution: Not enough attention to the body or physical needs. A lack of focus on more immediate issues such as food and exercise OR forgetting spiritual, emotional or mental concerns through a focus on the body or physical aspects. Too many things on one’s mind. Obsessions leading to imbalance. Not eating or drinking.

The Moon’s North Node symbolizes: This is known as quite a ‘karmic point’ (although all planets and points in a chart can be ‘karmic’). One’s destiny in this life. The things you are meant to integrate, move towards, become. Destined relationships and relationship issues can show up here.
