Occuring on October 20 in the US and October 21 in Australia, this full Moon in Aries is a big one – it has very evocative Symbols, and, has a lot of Mars and Pluto energies which can be intense and challenging but yet rewarding and certainly meaningful. Mars is conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon and squaring Pluto, meaning that the full Moon is squared by Pluto – a rather combustible lot of aspects that are certain to bring up issues, confrontations, decisions and outcomes. Certainly, this is a dynamic full Moon and one that we would do well to be rather cautious about in regards to our responses. The urge to think and care about ourselves (Aries) could butt up against others’ needs and wishes (Libra), and, we might find more and more people are polarised in their views, ideas and demands.
One thing to be mindful of is that we’re coming out of an enormous retrograde period where we had all of the outer planets retrograde along with Mercury for good measure. We are emerging out of that energy now, but, we have Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and Mercury stationary at the moment. This shows that things are starting to move, yes, but, it may take some more time before the momentum picks up again. Pushing right now is unlikely to help.
The emphasis on Mars and Pluto at this full Moon can see people disappointed, angry, upset, arguing, debating and pushing their thoughts on each other. Of course, on the other hand, we can find ourselves more ambitious, more goal oriented, etc. The trick is (well, there’s a need for lots of tricks up our sleeves at the moment!) to truly assess what can and what can’t be gained from trying to get through to others, to change others or to influence them in some way. The same goes for ourselves, naturally, we might find interesting insights in listening to others, paying attention to what they’re saying, but, and this is important, I feel – if something doesn’t sound right it’s about staying true to our own beliefs, visions and ideas.
As Jupiter is stationary and trining the Sun and Mercury, people may come up with new ideas, new visions and plans that bring a sense of the new, the expanded, the bigger and better. However, this can, in some instances, add to the pressure to impress one’s ideas onto others.
The closing square from Venus in Sagittarius to Neptune in Pisces can add to this pressure, and, we may find interesting insights into where we compromise ourselves, demand things of others, perhaps looking into our somewhat codependent reactions, and where false emotions, false assumptions, etc, might be coming up for us. There may, of course, be selfless acts of giving and care that can push through barriers with others now – but – not if it leads to misunderstandings and sacrifices that may have too high of a cost.
The tight opposition between Mercury and Chiron can bring up issues to do with healing and all things related to Chiron – we may find our (or others’) maverick thoughts and behaviours emerging, and, we would do well to pay attention to The Stories We Tell Ourselves (and, of course, the stories that we listen to). The message of Chiron for some months recently (on Aries 11: THE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNTRY OR THE RULER OF ONE’S NATION) brings up the issue of personal autonomy and the right to call our own shots (excuse the unintended pun). With Mercury on Libra 11: A PROFESSOR PEERING OVER HIS GLASSES, we may find a lot of questioning over what ‘qualifications’ one has to be making the decisions that one is making. My take on it is that if something doesn’t feel right, we need to go with our gut instincts (as usual, but especially now).
Saturn is on Aquarius 7: A CHILD BORN FROM AN EGGSHELL. Dane Rudhyar, in his fabulous 1973 book An Astrological Mandala, says of this degree that ‘It can be said to announce the EMERGENCE OF GLOBAL MAN for the New Age’. The Karmic Condition (the degree before) Saturn’s position is Aquarius 6: A MASKED FIGURE PERFORMING RITUALISTIC ACTS IN A MYSTERY PLAY. Saturn spent some weeks on this ‘MASK’ Symbol earlier this year. We certainly have seen ‘masks’ in many ways over the last eighteen months.

The Sabian Symbol for October’s full Moon is Aries 28: A LARGE DISAPPOINTED AUDIENCE – the following is my full interpretation of this degree from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees of Wisdom –
Commentary: ‘A Large Disappointed Audience’ implies that a performance of some kind or something that was done was not what was wanted or expected. People have witnessed or experienced something that was a ‘Disappointment’ or a letdown. It’s hard to know just what or how much the ‘Audience’ was expecting, but it is clear that they weren’t happy with the performance or outcome.
Oracle: You might feel as though you or someone else has failed and left others wanting. But how much is this because too much was expected in the first place? The ‘Audience’ only remembers the last performance, so get up and try again, but this time be more realistic. Be aware that in drawing this Symbol you may be an observer (in the ‘Audience’), or you may even be your own ‘Audience’. Does this picture a situation where you are living through the responses you receive from others? Do you feel that you’ve let yourself down? Sometimes it is necessary to acknowledge when an idea or action needs to be dropped or stopped, to be able to cut your losses. Still, getting mentally and emotional psyched up for something enjoyable and worthy can bring rewards, especially if you lower the expectations of the end result. Quick realizations of things as they really are can bring a sense of hope for a better outcome next time. We need to remember that we often project our own thoughts and expectations onto others; perhaps we can actually learn something more from failure than from success. Watch your reactions to the situation facing you, and see what comes up. What can you learn from observing your and others’ expectations? How strongly do you expect them to be fulfilled?
Keywords: Adjustments of expectations bringing realizations about what is really possible. Expecting the response of others. Walking out during a performance. Not listening to something through a lack of interest. Anticipating a different result from what is delivered. Relying on feedback. Lines and queues of people. Criticism. The need to inspire and enthuse.
The Caution: Feeling sad, sorry or letdown because of defeat and frustration. A lot of people left feeling emotionally “wiped-out”. Shattering of illusions. Fickleness. The attitude that one can’t do anything. Everything being out of one’s control. Watching what’s going on and not participating. Being at the mercy of the whims and fancies of others. Judging and analyzing oneself or others. Too many people crammed into one spot. Not getting a seat. Refusal of entry. Booing and hissing.
The Karmic Condition of this full Moon is Aries 27: THROUGH IMAGINATION, A LOST OPPORTUNITY IS REGAINED
This Symbol shows the talent or the ability to be able to use inner creative energy to revitalize ideas or opportunities that seemed to be lost. Whatever it is that you need to do, believe that it is possible and create an image in your mind and you will most likely succeed at gaining it or recovering it. Always take heart; there is energy here to recapture things that seemed to be lost. Visualizing what you want, allowing time and watching for it to manifest can bring astounding results. Sometimes, however, the “lost opportunities regained” are in a different form than we had first imagined.
Keywords: Creative imagination and visualization. Hopes renewed when all seemed lost. Second chances. Last minute reprieves. Retracing your steps. Judging things to be positive when once they were thought to be negative. Being exonerated or forgiven. Pardons giving release. Imagineering. Retrieving things. Making up for lost ground or time. Changing your mind therefore changing your outcome.
The Caution: Relying on self-pity. Denying the imagination to recover the situation. Not noticing solutions to problems. Letting chances for recovery disappear through inaction or laziness. Going over and over lost opportunities. Finding it impossible to let go. Staring at loss and not realizing what one has.
The Quest Symbol for this full Moon is Aries 29: THE MUSIC OF THE SPHERES
This Symbol speaks of the beauty of music and harmony and it is particularly intuitive. It doesn’t matter if things are going well or not, if you are in tune with the inner voice, this can show an inner accord with your path. Savor the lessons that come and know that everything happens in its own time and grow in wisdom. ‘The Music of the Spheres’ can show attuning to the messages of astrology. Sing, tune into the planets, listen to music.
Keywords: Voices bringing messages. Attuning to the messages inherent in astrology. Harmonies, chords, keys, octaves, tones. Things heard. Natural harmony of life. The beauty of the planets. The measurement of time. Circadian rhythms. Dancing to the wind. The humming of bees. Days of the week. The sound of water over rocks or crystals. The planets speaking through or to you. Sending love. The atomic clock. Harmonics. Musical ratios. Numbers. Numerology. Sound healing.
The Caution: Inflating rational ideas. Delusion or enlightenment? Getting lost in abstractions. Rejecting what’s obvious on an intuitive level in favor of more intellectual answers. Loving the sound of your own voice. Not listening to obvious messages.
The Sabian Symbol of the Sun is Libra 28: A MAN ALONE IN DEEP GLOOM. UNNOTICED, ANGELS ARE COMING TO HIS AID
This Symbol shows help, encouragement and assistance coming when one is most in need of it. There can be an inclination to depression with this degree, but it seems that, particularly if faith is employed, there is always some redeeming event or someone helpful turns up and the “Gloom” is dispersed and the light returns to one’s life; there is a realization that things are getting better. There are likely to be periods of going through a difficult time, but it will always dawn on you that you are being ‘helped’ in some way; ‘Angels’ come to aid those who need their help. Don’t be afraid to ask for their assistance. Have hope, faith, trust and work on changing your attitude and watch how hope returns.
Keywords: Feelings of not being alone. Awareness of spiritual help in times of need. Salvation versus depression. Feeling like one’s luck is about to change. Improvements in the pipeline. Changes in the “weather”. Helpers arriving just when they’re needed. Brightening influences. Angels and spiritual forces for good. Guardian angels.
The Caution: Unrealistic reliance on spiritual agencies or help from others. Feeling like no one cares or that no one is listening. Being alone and forgotten. Losing faith in things getting better. Refusing help. Misery and gloom and doom.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary direct Mercury is Libra 11: A PROFESSOR PEERING OVER HIS GLASSES AT HIS STUDENTS
This Symbol speaks of the ability, or the necessity, of looking at people as humans and not through the lens of something one learned from books. It’s as though the aspects of the rational mind and the intuition require a different kind of focus. Seeing people for who they really are leads to better and kinder relationships, as does dropping judgmental opinions or relying on science or complicated codes of thought for answers. You may find the need to interrupt your rational concentration to realize your intuitive ideas. At times you may feel like the “Professor” and at other times “The Student”. Regardless, having the eyes to see each other in the true light of day is the goal.
Keywords: Lenses of perception. Seeing that others get the message. Intellectual snobbery. Photography. Lenses as shields or barriers between people or things. Observing others. Examining one’s self. Understanding where you’re looking. Giving advice. Teachers. Professors. The ability to “read others”. Motivations or talents of others seen and appreciated.
The Caution: Assuming a superior position. Thinking others have a lesser position or intelligence. Reading endless self-help books and not noticing real life. Bossing others. Not seeing, or caring to notice, one’s own faults and limitations. Feeling separate from what’s being said or taught. Distortions of perception or observation. Condescending behavior. Seeing people as interruptions. Being bossy.
The Quest Symbol of Mercury is Libra 12: MINERS ARE EMERGING FROM A DEEP COAL MINE
This Symbol shows the need to delve deep within your self or into a subject to find the answers. There is often a challenge in being able to go deeply enough to come up with what’s really sought after. But it is not enough to just find the message, you need to bring what you’ve learnt into the light of day so that you can benefit from this passage and breathe more freely. It’s time to stop operating in the dark, to come to the surface and stop working so hard. There are rewards, however, from the passage into the depths; you can bring up jewels that otherwise would have remained underground, or undiscovered, or not revealed to the light.
Keywords: Release from arduous labor. Stopping work. Coming into the light. Deep subconscious healing. Hypnotherapy. Going into dark places. Claustrophobia. Memories from the past or out of nowhere. Things dark and “gothic”. Lung and breathing problems. Persephone emerging. The labyrinth of the mind. The mind flooding. Tunnel vision. Caves. Mines. Digging for answers. Relief and time off. Ghost stories. Being the “canary” in the mine. Work. The need to breathe.
The Caution: Gloomy outlooks. Not seeing potentials. Emerging with a “blackened face”. Difficulty breathing. Earning a living being a life and death situation. Working hard for small rewards. Emotional loops. Things hard to escape. Fear of confinement or capture.
The Sabian Symbol of Venus is Sagittarius 15: THE GROUND HOG LOOKING FOR ITS SHADOW ON GROUND HOG DAY
This Symbol shows the ability, or the desire, to have signs and predictions to give you insights into the future. By looking at past experience, you may find the signs, however, there’s a need to look closely at what’s happening as you could find yourself on a kind of merry-go-round; waking up each day to the same dilemma, question or problem. The solutions to your questions are often close by and easy to perceive and based in your normal life and relationships. Don’t try to read too much into situations, but do take a good look at how you come across in relation to other people. Do you keep repeating the same mistakes? Perhaps you are someone who helps others get over their past, freeing them up for having a better, brighter future.
Keywords: Looking back, reading the signs. Divination and other systems of inquiry. Seeing society as being to blame. People having a good look at how they seem to others. Wondering how others perceive you and picture you. Prophets that can tell the “weather” ahead of time. Predictions. Prognosticating. Welcoming an early spring. Scrutinizing objectives and possible outcomes. Looking to nature for clues.
The Caution: Being scared to act without some message of confirmation. People (or society) looking for someone else to blame for conditions. Relying on the same solutions without consideration of changes. Blizzards and the cold.
The Sabian Symbol of Mars is Libra 24: A THIRD WING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF A BUTTERFLY
This Symbol can show imbalances of many kinds, be they physical, mental, spiritual or emotional. Understanding and accepting fragility and differences in our self and others can give greater empathy for those who have difficulty operating efficiently in the world. When the transformation into full potential occurs, it is a wonderful thing, however, you may feel that you are unnaturally developed or somehow lopsided in the emotive, intuitive realms. Instinct may swamp logic or logic may take from your instinct or intuition. Physically, you could find that one side of your body works more efficiently or smoothly than the other. It helps to try to regain balance and equilibrium in your life. More can be achieved by finding that still space in the middle.
Keywords: Creative overbalance. Bodily impairments and handicaps. Being light, flippant and fluttering from thing to thing. Over-sensitivities. Oddities. Beautiful imperfections. Idiot savants. Imbalances. One side of the body being more perfect than the other. Wings, arms, legs, feet.
The Caution: Unrealistic reliance on being different. Obsession with strange things. Feeling useless and out of place. Flapping around and not getting anywhere. Restlessness and nervousness. Lopsidedness. Impatience.
The Quest Symbol of Mars is Libra 25: THE SIGHT OF AN AUTUMN LEAF BRINGS TO A PILGRIM THE SUDDEN REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY OF LIFE AND DEATH
This Symbol implies the ability, or the necessity, of being able to see far more in simple things than most people see. Instead of merely seeing “An Autumn Leaf”, “The Pilgrim” sees the cycle of life, the seed turning into the tree, the leaves turning in the autumn, etc, etc. There is far more to see in simple objects than is first apparent. You may have learnt much and yet grown tired of seeking information about life through conventional channels. A sudden insight can lead to a whole new revelation of life and its processes. Seeing things that others miss, look for answers in simple, everyday things around you. They may be fleeting, but they are around you – look for the signs, they can have profound effects.
Keywords: Seasonal adjustments. Fleeting inspiration. Seeing things in their own time. Spiritual revelations. Conversations with God. Feeling blessed. The beauty and timelessness of nature. Contacts with nature spirits. Angelic visions. Photography and having a photographic mind. Being here now. Pilgrims and their journeys. The Hadj pilgrimage. Solving problems. Quick and deep minds. Snapshots in time.
The Caution: Focusing on things that have no lasting value or are no longer relevant. Looking for answers in everything, therefore missing out on the big picture that’s right in front of you. Making a big deal out of insignificant or everyday occurrences.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary direct Jupiter is Aquarius 23: A BIG BEAR SITTING DOWN AND WAVING ALL ITS PAWS
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to develop responses and perform above and beyond the normal expected level. Issues of having to do what others tell you, or having to perform along the lines of how you’ve been trained may be fine for a while, but eventually you are likely to tire of doing the same things or not being taken seriously. Perhaps there are things you don’t want to do, but it seems your duty to perform. Look to your situation and see if you are compromising yourself or just acting out conditioned responses. Perhaps you are indeed excelling your normal level of performance, only you can tell.
Keywords: Developing skills. Making excuses. Performing rote responses. Expecting others to perform. Entertaining people. Being theatrical. Stomach rubs. Big, tall, brute energies. Sitting down or standing up. Fur and fuzzy hair. Playing instruments. Dancing. Performances. Arm waving. Animal training. Bears. Training. Learning by example. Fun vs. drudge.
The Caution: Being unable to recover one’s feet. Instinctive and creative performances for the crowd. Fatuous need to be the center of attention. Defying authority. Vulnerable. Working against normal instincts or desires. Flapping one’s arms. Sitting things out. Making a big noise, but doing nothing. Being cranky, ill tempered. Crazy behavior. Not having a mind of one’s own. Giving up control of one’s destiny. Mindless and brainless. Drugs and dope. Loss of spontaneity.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary direct Saturn is Aquarius 7: A CHILD BORN OUT OF AN EGGSHELL – I took the photo below when I was in southern Illinois on my mission to find info on Elsie Wheeler, the amazing spiritualist medium that gave birth to the Sabian Symbols.
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to see the individuality, beauty, potential or genius in people, particularly children. Today’s Indigo and Star children fit this description; they seem to come from nowhere and surprise us with their amazing ability to just ‘know’ things. This “Child” could be quite dependant; may need a lot of care, nurturing and education, or they could be very independent. Which are you? Finding new ways of doing things ensures you have the needed materials and resources to nourish this new beginning. Your desire to find your own unique way will give you the ability to find new paths and a new emergence.
Keywords: Transmutation. The birth of a new creative original impulse. Incubated ideas coming to fruition. Genetic engineering. Invitro fertilization. People beyond their time. Mutations. Seeking the unusual. The unexpected birth. The desire to have children. The nurturing egg. Emerging in a unique way. The matrix and the casket. The struggle to break free. Genetic engineering. Indigo children. Children that seem unrelated to their parents. Adoption.

The Sabian Symbol of Uranus is Taurus 14: ON THE BEACH, CHILDREN PLAY WHILE SHELLFISH GROPE AT THE EDGE OF THE WATER
This Symbol implies people and all living things living together in peace and harmony. They are playing and enjoying and living at the edge of the water on the beach, doing their own thing and getting on with their own lives. People with this Symbol often just want to get on with their own activities and enjoy life and nature. This is a lovely image of a live-and-let-live attitude. Try taking some time out by the water and interact with others there. With the coming and going of the tide, people do what comes most naturally to them. Just be careful that you don’t get out of your depth trying to be like others.
Keywords: Being self-sufficient. Looking after one’s own affairs. A sense of at-one-ment with all forms of life. Having a live and let live attitude. Peripheral vision. Returning to the source. Feeling safe in a natural environment. Playing alongside nature. Building sand castles. Playing in pools or baths. Buckets and spades. Sun protection. Interacting without really interacting. The Caution: Meddling in people’s lives. Restriction of play. Being distracted. Sandcastles that will eventually get washed away. Not knowing how to loosen up with others and relax into a natural environment. Fussing that people aren’t doing the ‘right thing’. Sunburn and exposure to weather. Voyeurism.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary Neptune is Pisces 21: A LITTLE WHITE LAMB, A CHILD AND A CHINESE SERVANT
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to provide care, safety and comfort to those who need it. The “Child” has a “Servant”; he is well looked after. He also has a “Little White Lamb”, an animal companion, one he can be with, hug and enjoy. It is natural to try and gain a physical awareness and in our early years it was the sense of touch that was initially satisfied. If you felt cradled and comfortable, you could grow knowing that all was safe and well. At times in your life you could find yourself in a place of privilege; cradled from those things that could hurt or challenge you, having someone to look after you. Conversely, you could be the one who’s always there for others, supporting and loving them regardless of who they are or where they’re from.
Keywords: Being protected by higher, more aware, energies. The privileges money and social status bring. Awareness of the different levels of situations. Differing perspectives. Helpers, servants. Care. Being watched over. Watchfulness. Pets and animals. The supervision of youngsters. Purity of vision. Caring for the child within.
The Caution: Social incompatibility. Purity merely by nature of wealth. Not having to grow up because of the social environment. Not taking responsibility for one’s self. Acting like a brat and getting away with it.
The Sabian Symbol of stationary direct Pluto is Capricorn 25: AN ORIENTAL RUG DEALER IN A STORE FILLED WITH PRECIOUS ORNAMENTAL RUGS
This Symbol speaks of the ability, or the need, to know how to appraise the worth of things, to be able to buy and sell and market products for sale in the market. Taking pride in the products of your culture, and the buying and selling of useful and beautiful things is a responsible position, and the claims made about the products for sale have to be tried and true. There may be a feeling of needing to reassess your attitudes and ideals, particularly if there’s the desire to get the better of others. You may feel the need to work with the physical and mental practices of oriental traditions that are available.
Keywords: Refinement of cultural understanding and values. Appreciating excellence of quality. Always looking for a bargain. Buying things at bargain prices and selling them at higher prices. Bartering and trading. Charging a fair price. The sales pitch. Second hand goods. Marketing. Promotions. Sales. Discounts. Closing the sale. Being able to think on your feet.

The Sabian Symbol of retrograde Chiron is Aries 10: A TEACHER GIVES NEW SYMBOLIC FORMS TO TRADITIONAL IMAGES
This Symbol implies that you have ideas or a message to spread, but you may be holding back because you think it has been done before – however, things done by you are best done your own way. Bring out something fresh and new and it will revitalize those around you. Looking at things in a different light, you’ll revision old thought forms with new ones. Try to find new solutions to old ideas – you could revolutionize something.
Reinterpretation. New dimensions of consciousness breaking through old thought forms.
Keywords: New dimensions breaking old thought forms or behavior. Quantum science. Innovation and re-creation. Working with educational tools. Finding new inspiration. Being “ahead of one’s time”. New-age consciousness. Ideas out of the past for the future. Sticking one’s neck out. Rewriting the book.
The Caution: Rejecting old ideas because they are old instead of reforming them. Throwing things of worth out, without examining them. Having little respect for things that are really worthwhile or traditional. Sticking with the tried and true, no matter what. Thinking that no one will be interested in your ideas. Heresy. Dogma.
The Quest Symbol of retrograde Chiron is Aries 11: THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC, OR THE RULER OF ONE’S COUNTRY
This Symbol shows that it’s time to take charge, to expand your base of operations and to show that you have the integrity and the necessary energy to get things done. It’s also about bringing a sense of order and discipline into your life – physically, spiritually or emotionally. Find your sense of inner power and make it work for you so others don’t lord it over you. Be in control of your own destiny and individuality.
Keywords: Developing willpower. Inner power, discipline and integrity. Discipline of thoughts, emotions and actions. Leadership, power and ability along with their responsibilities. Accepting responsibility for one’s actions. “Calling the shots”. Rulers, presidents, leaders. Taking charge. The need for loyal subjects. Being voted in. The democratic process.

Undermining others through a lack of self-awareness or confidence. Being larger than life. Dictators and tyrants. Military Governments.
The Sabian Symbol of the Moon’s north node is THE CHARMING COURT LIFE AT THE GARDEN OF THE TUILERIES IN PARIS
This Symbol speaks of enjoying of having the finer things in life; luxury, big estates, good food, beautiful gardens, a fabulous social life and mixing with the elite of society. This implies enjoying the rewards of self confidence and authority that you and others have developed and achieved. This does not make you greater or better than others, but the work you’ve done entitles you to a little luxury, comfort and prestige. Are you relaxed and comfortable enough to be able to sit back and join in with others and enjoy it all?
Keywords: A love of form and tradition. Cultivation of beautiful places. Symmetry of form being shown at its best. Gardens and gardeners. Garden ornaments. Statues. Having hired help to keep things beautiful or under one’s control. Taking time to work in the garden. Going first class. Being in the inner circle. Pots, plants. Wealth. Tradition. The Sabian Symbol of the Moon’s south node is Sagittarius 3: TWO MEN PLAYING CHESS
This Symbol shows the ability, or the necessity, to indulge in strategic games, arguments or competitions. There can be a strong sense of knowing how to maneuver situations in order to win or come out on top, often with an eye to possible outcomes. Often, there’s a need to be thoughtful and cautious, taking into account the wider picture. Impulsive acts with no forward planning can be risky. It probably pays to not show your weak side, but do everything with the possible objective of winning. It can be difficult to relax in competitive environments; one often feels that they can’t let their guard down because they might be taken advantage of, in some way. Take one step at a time and move with purpose and forethought.
Keywords: Strategic competition. Seeing the picture several moves ahead. Arguments that can go on and on. Finding justification for being combative. Throwing down the gauntlet to the other.
